AMUER Natural Wood Skirting Boards — Floor-Matched, Precision-Finished, Built to Last

The skirting board is one of the most overlooked details in an interior — yet it is one of the first things a discerning eye notices when it is wrong. A mismatched baseboard disrupts the visual continuity of a room, cheapens the appearance of even an expensive floor, and signals a lack of attention to craft.

AMUER skirting boards are designed to eliminate this problem entirely. Manufactured from the same natural wood as your floor order, finished with the same surface treatment, and produced in the same production run, AMUER skirting boards integrate seamlessly into the room — completing the material story from floor to wall.

Whether you are fitting a shadow-gap detail in a contemporary apartment, a tall classic profile in a period renovation, or a low, discreet baseboard in a minimalist space, AMUER offers four carefully designed profiles to suit every architectural context.

What Is a Skirting Board — and Why Does It Matter?

A skirting board (also called a baseboard or base molding) is a trim element fixed along the base of interior walls where they meet the floor. It serves both aesthetic and functional purposes, and its quality and specification have a significant impact on the finished look of a room.

Functional Roles of a Skirting Board

•Expansion joint concealment: Natural wood floors require an expansion gap around the room's perimeter to accommodate seasonal movement. The skirting board covers this gap cleanly, allowing the floor to expand and contract freely without visible gaps appearing at the wall edge.
•Wall protection: The skirting board protects the lower section of the wall from furniture impact, vacuum cleaner damage, foot traffic scuffs, and moisture splash during floor cleaning — all common causes of wall damage in high-use areas.
•Moisture barrier: During regular floor maintenance, cleaning agents and water can travel toward the wall base. The skirting board acts as a physical barrier, preventing moisture and pigmented cleaning fluids from reaching the plaster or drywall.
•Cable concealment: Many skirting board systems can incorporate cable channels or hollow profiles for routing electrical, data, or AV cabling discreetly along the wall base.
•Transition finish: In renovation projects, the skirting board covers imperfect cuts, uneven wall bases, and irregular floor edges — providing a clean, professional finish regardless of substrate condition.

Aesthetic Role of the Skirting Board

Visually, the skirting board defines the boundary between the floor plane and the vertical plane of the wall. Its height, profile shape, finish, and material directly influence how the room feels — whether open and modern, or layered and classical. A well-specified skirting board makes the floor look intentional, anchors the room's proportions, and creates a sense of architectural completeness that is difficult to achieve without it.
Product Overview
For a clean transition from floor to wall, a skirting board is recommended. To ensure a harmonious overall look, AMUER manufactures the skirting boards together with the flooring order, thus minimizing differences in wood color and texture.
All skirting boards have a standard length of 2,200 mm and can only be purchased in bundles. Available in 3 profiles to suit every interior style and ceiling height.
The skirting board serves two purposes: it is an aesthetic element providing a clean floor-to-wall transition, and a functional spacer that hides the necessary expansion joint — protecting the wall from moisture, cleaning agents, and vacuum wear during floor maintenance.

Profile Details
Profile I — 20 mm skirting board
Profile I — 20 mm

The most minimal option. At just 20 mm high, the skirting board is barely perceptible — making it ideal for spaces where the floor should be the visual focus. Popular in contemporary open-plan interiors, lofts, and minimalist residential projects.

Profile II — 40 mm

The classic all-rounder. At 40 mm, this profile provides a clean and well-proportioned finish that works equally well in contemporary, traditional, and Nordic interiors. The most widely specified profile across all ceiling heights.

Installation Guide
Before You Begin
•Acclimatize boards in the installation space for 24–48 hours
•Walls must be dry, flat, and free of loose plaster
•Mark room perimeter, calculate lengths, and cut with a fine-tooth or miter saw
Installation Diagram 1 – Cutting Method
Fixing Methods
•Nail fixing — For stud walls or plasterboard. Use brad nailer or lost-head nails; punch and fill.
•Adhesive fixing — For solid masonry. Apply MS polymer in ribbons; press and hold until cured.
•Clip system — Available for selected profiles. Clips fix to wall; board snaps into place. Allows future removal.
Installation Schematic: Comparison of 2–3 Fixation Methods
Corners
•Internal corners — Scribe for older buildings with irregular angles; 45° miter for accurate new-build corners
•External corners — 45° miter on both boards; glue, pin, and sand lightly after fixing
Installation Schematic 3 – Handling of Inner and Outer Corners
After Installation
•Touch up cut ends and nail heads with AMUER Maintenance Oil or matching touch-up stain
•Do NOT caulk the floor-to-skirting joint — this gap must remain free for floor expansion
•Wall-to-skirting joint may be caulked with flexible acrylic, or left open as a shadow line
FAQ
Q:  Why are AMUER skirting boards sold in bundles?
Producing skirting boards in bundles allows AMUER to manage the cutting, drying, and finishing of each order as a coordinated batch alongside the floor boards. This is the key to achieving consistent color and texture matching. Individual boards cannot be matched with the same precision because they would come from different timber batches.
Q:  Can I order skirting boards separately from the floor?
AMUER skirting boards are manufactured together with the flooring order to ensure timber batch consistency. Ordering skirting boards retrospectively — after the floor has already been produced and installed — will likely result in some variation in color and grain. For the best possible match, always specify skirting boards at the same time as the floor.
Q:  What is the standard length of AMUER skirting boards?
All AMUER skirting boards are supplied in a standard length of 2,200 mm (220 cm) per board. Lengths are not available to custom order; on-site cutting to the required room dimensions is expected as part of the installation process.
Q:  Do I need to leave an expansion gap at the bottom of the skirting board?
No — the skirting board itself covers the expansion gap between the floor and the wall. You should not caulk or fill the joint between the skirting board and the floor. This joint must remain free to allow the floor to expand and contract with seasonal humidity changes. Filling this joint is one of the most common installation errors and can cause floor buckling.

Q:  Can AMUER Skirting Boards Be Used With Underfloor Heating?

Yes. Because the skirting board is fixed to the wall — not to the floor — it does not need to accommodate the floor's thermal movement in the same way as the floor boards themselves. Standard fixings and adhesives suitable for interior use are appropriate. Ensure the wall surface temperature does not exceed levels that would affect the adhesive bond if using glue-fixed installation.

Q:  What Profile Is Most Popular?

Profile III at 58 mm is AMUER's most widely specified skirting board profile for premium residential and hospitality projects. It offers the ideal balance between presence and restraint, working well in a broad range of ceiling heights and interior styles. Profile II at 40 mm is the most commonly specified in contemporary apartments and minimalist designs.

Q:  Can I Paint AMUER Skirting Boards?

AMUER skirting boards are designed to be appreciated in their natural wood finish — oiled or hardwax-oiled to match the floor. Painting is technically possible but would cover the natural wood character and create a maintenance obligation for touching up paint damage over time. If a painted finish is required, AMUER recommends specifying a standard MDF skirting board for painted applications and reserving the natural wood skirting for all-natural wood schemes.

Q:  Are Shadow-Gap Skirting Solutions Available?

Yes. For contemporary and minimalist interiors where a conventional skirting board profile is not desired, AMUER can advise on shadow-gap detail solutions that use a recessed reveal at the wall base in place of a projecting skirting board. This treatment — often combined with a concealed baseboard channel — creates a floating-floor effect and is highly compatible with AMUER's low-profile boards and floor systems.
