Scratch visibility and maintenance challenges on dark flooring
The client wanted a dramatic black herringbone floor to complement the panoramic skyline views, but was concerned that dark surfaces would easily reveal dust, footprints, and scratches under strong natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Our Solution
To balance luxury aesthetics with practicality, we introduced a distinctive Saw Mark surface treatment. The textured surface diffuses direct sunlight while naturally concealing minor scratches and everyday wear.
Premium AB grade oak was selected to maintain a clean and refined appearance, allowing the architectural saw mark texture to become the visual focus without heavy knots or rustic variation.
The deep charcoal tone (AM-20) was protected using a durable UV lacquer finish for enhanced resistance to fading and daily use. Combined with a stable 3-layer engineered structure and precision T&G installation system, the project achieved a seamless and dimensionally stable herringbone layout across the entire penthouse.
