Brushed Natural Oak Herringbone Engineered Flooring — AM-22
Brushed Natural Oak Herringbone Engineered Flooring — AM-22
AM-22 is a 90mm × 600mm herringbone-format engineered oak floor in AB select-to-character grade with a wire-brushed surface and UV lacquer finish — 14/3mm three-layer construction with a 3mm solid European oak wear layer — combining the warmth and depth of wire-brushed natural oak grain with the architectural power of herringbone parquet pattern. Tongue and groove edges allow traditional glue-down installation for a permanently stable floor where the brushed texture and the herringbone geometry work together.

Product Overview · AM-22 Brushed Natural Oak Herringbone
AM-22 is a 90×600mm herringbone-format engineered European oak floor in AB grade with a wire-brushed surface and UV lacquer finish — a specification that combines two qualities that reinforce each other in a way that neither achieves alone. Herringbone is the most geometrically complex standard parquet pattern: the alternating V-direction of adjacent staves creates a floor where each stave's grain is set against its neighbours at a different angle, making the natural variation of the oak grain visible at multiple orientations simultaneously. Wire brushing adds a directional surface texture to each stave face, and in herringbone format, this directional texture also rotates with the stave angle — so the floor presents a surface of layered visual complexity: geometry from the pattern, warmth from the oak colour, and tactile depth from the brushed texture, unified by the UV lacquer into a practical, low-maintenance surface.

European oak — the species standard for engineered hardwood flooring — is the correct choice for a brushed herringbone specification at 90×600mm for reasons that go beyond the species' commercial availability. Oak's cellular structure, with clearly differentiated early-wood and late-wood zones in each growth ring, responds to wire brushing in a predictable, controlled way: the softer early-wood fibres are removed cleanly, leaving the harder late-wood as a gentle raised texture, and the brushed texture aligns with the grain direction of each stave. In herringbone layout, this means the texture direction changes with every stave, adding visual movement to the floor that a smooth-surface herringbone would not produce.

At AB grade, the boards have predominantly clear straight grain with occasional natural character — small tight knots, minor colour variation, natural grain features — that provide the visual warmth and authenticity of real timber without the strong marks of CD character grade. In herringbone format, this AB grain quality ensures the pattern reads clearly: the geometry is the primary visual element, supported by the warm natural colour and brushed texture, rather than competing with bold character features.
Design Guide
AM-22's warm honey-gold brushed European oak in herringbone format is one of the most versatile luxury flooring specifications: the natural golden colour works across a very wide range of wall finishes, and the herringbone pattern elevates any room it enters. Two contexts where its specific qualities are most valued:
AM-22's Warm Scandinavian
Warm Scandinavian
AM-22's warm honey-gold brushed grain, seen against white or pale walls with natural wood furniture, reads as the floor that defines the Scandinavian interior ideal: warm without being heavy, natural without being rustic, textured without being rough. The herringbone pattern adds a formal complexity that distinguishes a considered Scandinavian interior from a casual one, while the brushed surface adds the organic tactile warmth that cool minimalism requires.
Modern Farmhouse-am-22
Modern Farmhouse
The brushed texture and warm golden colour of AM-22 are natural partners of the modern farmhouse interior: aged plaster, exposed timber structure, stone, linen, and ironwork. Against these materials, brushed oak herringbone reads as the authentic continuation of a material tradition — the kind of floor that would have been in the original building, now specified with precision. The herringbone pattern references historic European parquet while the brushed surface adds a softness and warmth.
Installation & Room Suitability
T&G Glue-Down Installation (Herringbone)
AM-22 uses tongue and groove edges and requires full-spread adhesive glue-down installation — the correct method for herringbone parquet pattern.

•Full-spread adhesive to subfloor (flexible wood floor adhesive)
•Subfloor flatness: 3mm per 2m maximum
•Moisture barrier / DPM required on concrete subfloors
•Mark the herringbone centre line before starting — plan layout from room centre
•Stave joints must be tight — do not force misaligned staves
•Allow adhesive to cure fully before foot traffic (typically 24 hours)
Professional installation strongly recommended for herringbone pattern
Underfloor Heating
AM-22 is compatible with both hydronic and electric UFH systems. The three-layer cross-ply core and UV lacquer finish handle thermal cycling reliably.

•Maximum surface temperature: 27°C
•Switch off heating 24 hours before installation
•Restart gradually: 1–2°C per day to operating temperature
•Maintain indoor humidity 40–65% RH year-round
•UV lacquer handles UFH thermal cycling without cracking
•Thermal resistance 0.15 m²K/W maximum
Glue-down installation improves thermal transfer to room

Notes
Living Rooms & Open Plan
Excellent
Herringbone pattern reads most powerfully across a large area. Brushed texture adds warmth and material depth that a smooth floor cannot match at distance.
Dining Rooms
Excellent
At seated eye level, the herringbone geometry, brushed grain texture, and natural oak colour are all visible simultaneously. UV lacquer handles spills and chair movement.
Master Bedrooms
Excellent
The warm honey-gold oak and brushed tactile texture create a naturally comfortable, restful atmosphere underfoot.
Hallways & Entrances
Excellent
Herringbone in a hallway is the classic application. Brushed texture conceals fine scuffs more effectively than smooth; UV lacquer handles high foot traffic.
Studies & Home Offices
Very Good
Warm, naturally lit working environment. UV lacquer resistant to chair leg abrasion with a chair mat.
Kitchens
Good
UV lacquer is more moisture-resistant than wax oil. Wipe spills immediately. Glue-down installation is dimensionally stable.
Heritage Commercial
Very Good
For premium retail, hospitality, and office spaces. Brushed oak herringbone reads as a high material specification without the formality of a dark species.
Bathrooms
Not Recommended
Not suitable for persistent moisture exposure.
Care & Maintenance — UV Lacquer on Brushed Oak Herringbone
Task
Method
Daily
Vacuum with soft brush head or dry sweep — brushed oak herringbone collects fine dust at stave joint edges; vacuum along the dominant grain direction
Weekly
Damp mop with well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral wood floor cleaner for lacquered floors — no standing water; avoid steam mops
Spills
Wipe immediately — UV lacquer is water-resistant but T&G joint edges are more vulnerable at cross-grain joints in herringbone pattern
Spot repair
Minor surface scratches: lacquer touch-up pen. Deeper scratches: professional re-lacquering. Brushed texture means minor marks blend more naturally than on smooth floors
Full re-oil
Not required routinely; UV lacquer is durable; professional re-lacquering when wear is visible, typically after 10+ years of use
Never
Steam mop · abrasive cleaners · bleach · wax or oil products (incompatible with lacquer) · solvent-based products · re-oiling over lacquer

FAQ
Q1. What is brushed oak herringbone engineered flooring?
Brushed oak herringbone engineered flooring is an engineered hardwood floor with a solid European oak wear layer processed by wire brushing and cut into short herringbone staves — in AM-22's case, 90×600mm — with a UV lacquer finish and tongue and groove edges for glue-down installation in the classic herringbone V-pattern.
AMUER AM-22 is 90mm wide, 600mm long, 14/3mm total thickness with a 3mm solid European oak wear layer, AB select-to-character grade, wire-brushed surface, UV lacquer finish, and T&G edges. The brushed texture adds directional character to the herringbone pattern, making the grain direction visible at both the surface texture and pattern geometry levels simultaneously.
Q2. What is the difference between brushed and smooth surface in herringbone oak flooring?
A brushed-surface herringbone oak floor has a wire-brushed surface treatment that removes soft early-wood fibres to leave the late-wood grain as a gently raised directional texture; a smooth-surface herringbone floor has a flat-sanded face with no surface relief. The grain is visible in both by colour variation, but the brushed surface adds a tactile and visual texture dimension.
In herringbone format, the brushed texture has a specific additional effect: because each stave is at a different angle, the brushed texture direction also rotates by stave, creating a floor where the light interaction changes across the pattern. Under raking light, the brushed surface of AM-22 shows the herringbone geometry as both pattern and texture, while a smooth surface would show it as pattern only.
Q3.   Why does AM-22 use UV lacquer rather than wax oil for a brushed surface?
UV lacquer is specified for AM-22 because it provides a hard, practical protective film over the brushed surface that preserves the wire-brushed texture profile without the maintenance requirements of a wax oil finish. The lacquer follows the surface profile of the raised late-wood and recessed early-wood, sealing both while maintaining the directional texture.
For herringbone installation, UV lacquer has an additional practical advantage: it seals the many T&G joint edges in the herringbone pattern against moisture ingress, protecting the cross-grain joints that are the most vulnerable point in a herringbone floor. Wax oil is an appropriate finish for brushed oak in plank format (see AM-09), but for brushed herringbone at 90×600mm, UV lacquer is the more practical specification.
Q4. What is AB grade in European oak, and what does it look like?
AB grade in European oak selects boards with predominantly clear, straight grain and consistent warm golden-brown colour, with some natural character: occasional small tight knots, minor board-to-board colour variation, and natural grain movement including cathedral grain. Boards are free of sapwood, open defects, and excessive colour contrast.
For brushed oak herringbone, AB grade is the right balance: enough character to read as natural, warm, and authentic; consistent enough for the herringbone pattern and brushed texture to be the dominant visual qualities. The occasional tight knot at stave scale adds material warmth without disrupting the pattern geometry.
Q5. How does herringbone pattern affect the room?
Herringbone changes the perceived geometry of a room in ways no plank format can: the alternating V-direction of the staves creates an optical diagonal that draws the eye along the pattern axis, making rooms appear longer, wider, or more dynamic depending on the orientation. In a hallway, herringbone running the length of the space makes the hall appear longer; in a square room, diagonal herringbone creates visual movement.
At 90×600mm stave size, the herringbone pattern scale is well-proportioned for standard room sizes: the pattern is large enough to read clearly from across the room but not so large that it requires a very large space to contain it. The brushed texture of AM-22 amplifies the pattern by adding a second layer of directional variation — texture direction as well as stave direction — that makes the floor visually active under natural light.
Q6.  Can AM-22 be used over underfloor heating?
Yes — AM-22 is compatible with both hydronic and electric underfloor heating systems, with a maximum surface temperature of 27°C. The three-layer cross-ply engineered core minimises differential movement under UFH thermal cycling, and the UV lacquer surface film handles temperature variation without cracking.
Glue-down installation, required for herringbone pattern, is particularly advantageous for UFH: the adhesive bond eliminates the insulating air gap that floating installations can create between the floor and the heating surface, improving thermal efficiency. Maintain indoor humidity at 40–65% RH year-round to support joint stability.
Q7. How do I maintain UV lacquer on brushed oak herringbone?
UV lacquer on AM-22 requires regular sweeping or vacuuming, weekly damp mopping with pH-neutral wood floor cleaner, felt pads under all furniture, and immediate spill wiping. The brushed surface texture means fine grit lodges more readily at the grain texture than on a smooth surface — frequent vacuuming is especially important for AM-22.
Minor surface scratches are less visible on a brushed surface than on smooth, as the texture provides optical camouflage for fine marks. Chair mats under desk chairs and entrance door mats are the most effective maintenance measures for lacquer durability. No periodic re-oiling or specialist treatment is required.
Q8. What is the minimum order for AM-22?
The standard minimum order for AMUER AM-22 is 200 m² per SKU from our China factory.
