Versailles Parquet-02 — DE Grade Smoked Oak 800×800mm Engineered Parquet Panel UV Lacquer
Versailles Parquet-02 is an 800×800mm factory-assembled engineered oak Versailles parquet panel in DE character grade with deep smoke treatment and UV lacquer finish: 16/6mm multi-layer construction with a 6mm solid European oak wear layer — the thickest wear layer in the AMUER range — tongue-and-groove (T&G) glue-down installation.
Versailles Parquet-02 occupies a distinct position from Versailles Parquet-01: where Parquet-01 delivers the classic, light honey-gold French court Versailles in AB select grade, Parquet-02 applies deep smoke treatment to DE character-grade oak to produce a dramatically different floor — a deep chocolate-brown smoked Versailles parquet with DE grade knots, grain movement, and natural oak character visible through and amplified by the smoked colour. The result is a floor that combines the architectural authority of the Versailles pattern with the material drama of deep smoked oak: the most complex parquet pattern available, in the darkest and most characterful colour treatment.
The 6mm wear layer of Versailles Parquet-02 is the thickest wear layer available in the AMUER engineered range, providing the greatest refinishing capacity of any product in the collection — a significant practical advantage for a floor of this specification level.

Full Product Specification
| Specification | Versailles Parquet-02 Detail | |
| Product Code | Versailles Parquet-02 | |
| Species | Top layer European Oak | |
Core | Poplar & Eucalyptus
| Construction | Multi-Layer Engineered Wood — multiple cross-ply veneer core layers; superior dimensional stability compared to 3-layer construction; designed for extra-wide board formats where stability demands are highest | |
Total Thickness | 16/6mm
Top Layer | 6mm solid European oak (smoked) — supports 3–4 sanding and refinishing cycles; maximum refinishing capacity of any product in the AMUER range; the 6mm wear layer also provides greater depth of smoked colour — the smoke treatment penetrates further into the thicker wear layer
Panel Dimensions | 800mm × 800mm — factory pre-assembled complete Versailles pattern panel; same panel dimension as Versailles Parquet-01
Pattern | Versailles Parquet — the Palace of Versailles classical French court parquet pattern, 17th century.
Colour | Versailles Parquet-02 Smoked Oak — deep chocolate-brown; the smoke treatment permanently darkens the natural European oak from honey-sand to a rich, warm chocolate-brown through ammonia fuming — a chemical reaction with the natural tannins in the oak that penetrates deep into the 6mm wear layer; the smoked colour has a warmth and depth that stained or pigmented dark floors cannot replicate; the DE grade colour variation reads through the smoked colour as a tonal range from warm mid-brown to deep espresso-chocolate, amplified by the smoke treatment into more dramatic board-to-board contrast
Surface Treatment | Smoked (Deep Ammonia Fuming) — the oak boards are exposed to ammonia vapour in a sealed chamber; the ammonia reacts with the natural tannins in the oak to produce a permanent, deep colour change across the full 6mm wear layer depth; the smoked colour cannot be sanded away under normal refinishing because it penetrates to a greater depth in the 6mm wear layer than in thinner wear layers; the smoke treatment on Versailles Parquet-02 is applied before panel assembly, ensuring consistent smoked colour across all stave elements within each panel
Finish | UV Lacquer — hard, clear factory-applied finish across the full assembled and smoked panel surface; seals and protects the smoked oak colour and natural grain; scratch and stain resistant; easy daily maintenance; no periodic re-oiling required; the UV lacquer preserves the deep smoked colour under a clear, durable protective coat
Grading | DE — High Natural Character Grade: open knots, filled knots, black knots, checks, splits, pronounced grain movement and figure, full colour variation; in the smoked treatment, DE grade character is dramatically amplified — knots read as near-black focal points within the chocolate-brown field; grain ring contrast is deepened; figure is made more visible by the smoke's differential tannin reaction across wood anatomy; the DE grade in smoked colour at 800×800mm panel scale produces a floor of exceptional visual complexity and drama
Edge Profile | T&G (Tongue-and-Groove) — tongue on two edges, groove on two opposing edges; panels interlock and are secured by full-spread glue-down adhesive
Installation | T&G glue-down — full-spread flexible adhesive application across the entire panel back; press and weight during cure; suitable for concrete screed, sand-cement, anhydrite, and timber subfloors; nail-down also suitable for timber subfloor; floating installation not recommended for Versailles parquet panel format

PRODUCT OVERVIEW · VERSAILLES PARQUET-02
Deep Smoked DE Oak at 800×800mm — The Dark Versailles
Versailles Parquet-02 is the result of applying the two most dramatically characterful treatments available in the AMUER range — deep smoke and DE grade — to the most architecturally significant parquet pattern in the European classical tradition. The outcome is a floor that simultaneously occupies the highest reaches of classical pattern heritage and the darkest, most dramatic end of the contemporary colour spectrum.
The deep smoke treatment is the defining element that separates Versailles Parquet-02 from Parquet-01. Where Parquet-01 presents the Versailles pattern in the warm honey-gold of natural AB select oak — the historically authentic colour of the original Palace of Versailles floor — Parquet-02 transforms this same pattern with ammonia fuming: a chemical reaction between ammonia vapour and the natural tannins in the DE grade oak produces a permanent, deep chocolate-brown colour that penetrates through the full 6mm wear layer. The smoked colour is not a coating applied on top of the wood; it is the wood itself, chemically and permanently darkened.
The DE grade amplifies the drama of the smoke treatment. Where AB grade (Parquet-01) delivers consistent, clean boards that allow the Versailles geometry to read with maximum clarity and classical order, the DE grade of Parquet-02 introduces the full natural character of European oak — knots, figure, grain movement, and colour variation — into the smoked colour field. In the dark chocolate-brown of the smoke treatment, DE grade character is transformed: open knots read as near-black focal points of exceptional intensity; grain ring contrast is deepened and dramatised; figure becomes visible as dark bands and waves through the chocolate field; the board-to-board colour variation of the DE grade reads as a rich tonal range from warm mid-brown to deep espresso-chocolate. The result is a Versailles panel of extraordinary visual complexity — the geometric precision of the classical pattern overlaid with the full natural drama of DE grade oak in deep smoked colour.
The 6mm wear layer completes the specification: the thickest in the AMUER engineered range, supporting 3–4 refinishing cycles and providing the greatest depth of smoke penetration of any product in the collection. Versailles Parquet-02 is a lifetime floor.
Design Guide
Versailles Parquet-01's natural honey-sand AB select colour, 800×800mm panel scale, classical French pattern heritage, and UV lacquer finish make it one of the most architecturally authoritative floor specifications available:

Dark Luxury & Moody Formal
Versailles parquet in natural honey-oak is the floor of French classical interiors: deep royal blue or bottle green walls, gilded or painted classical joinery, marble chimneypieces, aged brass and gold fixtures, and damask or silk upholstery. The warm honey-sand reads as period-appropriate and historically consistent with the pattern's origins in the Louis XIV court.

Contemporary Classical & New Luxury
For new-build luxury residential and contemporary classical interiors — large open-plan spaces with high ceilings, pale plaster walls, marble and stone surfaces, and refined contemporary furniture — Versailles Parquet-01's natural honey-oak brings historical pattern authority and material warmth to spaces that might otherwise read as generic. The pattern's geometric complexity creates visual interest that contemporary minimal interiors often lack.
Installation — Smoked Versailles Panel Glue-Down
Glue-Down Installation (Concrete / Screed)
Full-spread flexible adhesive glue-down is the standard and recommended installation method for Versailles Parquet-02.
· Adhesive: flexible polyurethane or MS polymer — full trowel spread across entire panel back
· Do not allow adhesive to skin before panel placement
· Press firmly and evenly across full panel; use rubber mallet and tapping block on panel edge
· Weight panels during adhesive cure — use clean plywood sheets weighted with heavy objects
· Expansion gap: 12mm minimum at all walls; cover with skirting or threshold
· Acclimatise panels 72 hours at room temperature and humidity before installation
· Adhesive cure: minimum 48 hours before light traffic; 72 hours before normal use
Layout Planning — Dark Floor Considerations
The deep smoked colour of Versailles Parquet-02 requires modified layout planning compared to lighter floors:
· Use white chalk or bright fluorescent chalk for layout lines on dark subfloors — standard chalk lines can be difficult to see against the smoked oak surface during installation
· Dry-lay 4–6 panels from room centre before committing to adhesive to confirm the dark smoked pattern reads correctly across the planned layout
· The Versailles pattern has no dominant grain direction — panels can be oriented freely, but keep all panels in the same orientation throughout
Subfloor Preparation
Identical requirements to Versailles Parquet-01. The 800×800mm panel format requires excellent subfloor preparation.
· Flatness: 2mm per 2m maximum — grind high spots, fill lows with levelling compound
· Dryness: concrete maximum 75% RH; anhydrite screed maximum 65% RH
· Prime all concrete and anhydrite subfloors before adhesive
Underfloor Heating
· Maximum surface temperature: 27°C · Flexible polyurethane adhesive required · Maintain 45–60% RH year-round · Switch off UFH 48 hours before installation; restart at 1–2°C per day
Room Suitability
| Room / Application | Suitability | Notes | |
| Grand Dark-Floor Living Rooms | Exceptional | Versailles Parquet-02 is the definitive specification for grand living rooms where a dark-floor statement is the design brief. The combination of the Versailles pattern's architectural authority with the chocolate-brown smoked colour creates a floor of unrivalled visual drama — the most complex geometric pattern available in the darkest natural oak colour treatment. | |
| Luxury Hotel Lobbies & Grand Spaces | Exceptional | For five-star hotel lobbies, private members club reception rooms, and grand hospitality spaces specifying a dark Versailles parquet, Parquet-02 delivers the required combination of pattern authority, material character, and UV lacquer durability for commercial foot traffic at the highest specification level. | |
New Luxury Residential | Exceptional | For new-build luxury residential properties — large townhouses, contemporary villas, penthouses — where the floor is intended as a primary architectural and material statement rather than a background element, Versailles Parquet-02 in smoked DE oak is the most ambitious specification available in the AMUER range.
Dining Rooms | Excellent | Smoked dark Versailles oak creates a formal, dramatically warm dining room environment. The UV lacquer is practical for dining use; the deep colour is forgiving of candlelight and the warm light conditions of formal dining.
Master Suites & Dressing Rooms | Excellent | The deep smoked chocolate tone creates a warm, luxurious, enclosed feeling appropriate for master suite and dressing room environments. The DE grade character adds individuality and material richness
Period Property — Dark-Floor Rooms | Very Good | For period properties where a dark floor treatment is planned — perhaps a study, library, or lower-ground floor reception room — Versailles Parquet-02's DE grade character reads as appropriately aged while the smoked colour provides the dark drama the space requires.
Smaller Rooms | Not Recommended | As with Versailles Parquet-01, the 800mm panel scale requires rooms of at least 20 m² and ideally 30 m²+. Additionally, very dark floors can further reduce the perceived size of smaller rooms. Specify in large rooms only.
Bathrooms | Not Recommended | Not suitable for wet environments.
Care & Maintenance — Smoked Versailles Parquet UV Lacquer
| Task | Method | ||
| Daily | Dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush head. The deep smoked colour of Versailles Parquet-02 shows pale dust, pet hair, and light debris very clearly — even more so than DS-01 because of the larger joint surface area of the Versailles pattern. Sweep in multiple directions following the pattern geometry. Daily sweeping is the single most important maintenance step for maintaining the deep smoked Versailles floor's appearance. | ||
| Weekly | Damp mop with well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral hardwood floor cleaner. UV lacquer is fully sealed — the smoked colour and grain are protected. No steam mop, no excessive water, no standing water near panel joints. Clean in the direction of the individual stave grain elements. | ||
| Spills | Wipe immediately with a dry cloth. The Versailles pattern's high joint density requires prompt spill response. UV lacquer provides effective surface resistance; the smoked colour will not be affected by water that is wiped promptly. Dried spills may require gentle cleaning with pH-neutral cleaner and a soft cloth. | ||
Joint care | The Versailles pattern contains the highest density of internal joints of any pattern floor format. Vacuum with soft brush attachment along all joint directions regularly. The dark smoked colour makes fine debris in joints less visible but no less present — regular vacuuming of joints maintains the pattern's crispness and prevents debris accumulation.
Smoked colour | The smoked colour of Versailles Parquet-02 is permanent — chemically bonded to the oak fibres throughout the 6mm wear layer depth. It will not fade, wash out, or change under normal use and UV lacquer protection. The UV lacquer coat provides UV resistance that protects the smoked colour from light-induced change.
Periodic maintenance | UV lacquer requires no periodic re-oiling. Buff with manufacturer-approved hardwood floor polish every 6–12 months. For smoked dark floors, use a polish product formulated for dark wood floors to avoid any light-coloured residue in joints.
Refinishing | The 6mm wear layer supports 3–4 professional sanding and refinishing cycles. However, refinishing a smoked Versailles panel requires specialist consideration — see FAQ Q5 below.
Never | Steam mop · standing water · abrasive scrubbers · bleach or acid cleaners · oil or wax products on lacquered surface · silicone-based polishes · dragging heavy furniture across the pattern joints.

FAQ
Q1. What is smoked oak Versailles parquet engineered flooring?
Smoked oak Versailles parquet engineered flooring (Versailles Parquet-02) is an 800×800mm factory pre-assembled engineered parquet panel in DE character grade European oak with deep ammonia smoke treatment and UV lacquer finish. The Versailles parquet pattern — the 17th-century French court floor design from the Palace of Versailles — is assembled at the AMUER China factory from individually smoked DE grade oak staves into the three-element geometric composition (basket-weave central field, diagonal border bands, perimeter frame). The panels are 16/6mm multi-layer construction with a 6mm solid smoked oak wear layer — the thickest wear layer in the AMUER range — and T&G tongue-and-groove profile for glue-down installation.
Q2. Why does Versailles Parquet-02 use DE grade rather than AB grade?
The choice of DE grade for Versailles Parquet-02 vs AB grade for Parquet-01 reflects the different design intentions of the two products. Parquet-01's AB grade prioritises geometric clarity — clean, consistent boards that allow the Versailles pattern to read with maximum precision and classical order, appropriate for historically informed and formally classical interior contexts. Parquet-02's DE grade compounds the drama of the smoked colour treatment with natural oak character — the knots, figure, and grain movement of DE grade are transformed by the smoke treatment into focal points of exceptional intensity, adding a layer of material complexity to the geometric complexity of the Versailles pattern. Parquet-02 is for specifications where maximum drama and material richness take precedence over classical geometric clarity.
Q3. Will the smoked colour of Versailles Parquet-02 fade or change?
The smoked colour of Versailles Parquet-02 is a permanent chemical change in the oak — ammonia fuming reacts with the natural tannins in the wood to produce a colour modification that penetrates throughout the 6mm wear layer. It will not fade, wash out, or significantly change under normal use and UV lacquer protection. The UV lacquer coat provides UV resistance that protects the smoked colour from light-induced change more effectively than penetrating oil finishes. The 6mm wear layer ensures that even after sanding, substantial smoked colour depth remains in the wood below the sanded surface.
Q4. What is the advantage of the 6mm wear layer in Versailles Parquet-02?
The 6mm wear layer of Versailles Parquet-02 (vs 4mm in Parquet-01) provides three advantages. First, refinishing capacity: 6mm supports 3–4 professional sanding cycles over the floor's lifespan, vs 2–3 for 4mm — a Versailles Parquet-02 floor properly maintained can last indefinitely as a refinishable surface. Second, smoke depth: the ammonia smoke treatment penetrates proportionally deeper into a 6mm wear layer than a 4mm wear layer, meaning the smoked colour remains present to a greater depth even after sanding. Third, structural mass: the additional 2mm of solid oak in the face layer adds to the panel's structural rigidity and thermal mass, which benefits dimensional stability in the 800×800mm panel format.
Q5. Can Versailles Parquet-02 be sanded and refinished?
Yes — the 6mm wear layer supports 3–4 professional sanding and refinishing cycles. However, refinishing a smoked Versailles panel requires specialist parquet restoration expertise and careful consideration. Sanding will remove a layer of the smoked wear layer surface; below the top 1–2mm of maximum smoke intensity, the smoked colour continues into the wood at a gradually reduced intensity — so the floor will remain substantially smoked after careful light sanding. After sanding, the floor should be refinished with UV lacquer (or an alternative finish). Re-smoking on site is possible but requires specialist equipment and experience. Contact AMUER or a specialist parquet restorer for refinishing guidance specific to Versailles Parquet-02.
Q6. What room size is needed for Versailles Parquet-02?
The same scale requirements apply as for Versailles Parquet-01: minimum approximately 20 m², ideally 30 m² or larger. Additionally, the dark smoked colour of Parquet-02 can further reduce the perceived size of smaller rooms — the combination of a dark floor and a complex geometric pattern at 800mm scale can feel overwhelming in compact spaces. Specify Versailles Parquet-02 in generously proportioned rooms where the full geometric composition of the Versailles pattern can develop across the floor area. For smaller rooms requiring a dark parquet statement, consider chevron (AM-40) or herringbone in a smoked treatment.
Q7. What is the minimum order for Versailles Parquet-02?
Standard MOQ is 200 m² per SKU from our China factory. Free samples available — email arboren@arboren.com (sample includes one 800×800mm panel or a quarter-panel section showing the full smoked Versailles pattern geometry). Samples dispatched within 4–5 business days. OEM orders from 200 m² MOQ.
