Dark Elm 125mm Chevron Engineered Flooring Natural Oil Embossed 16/6mm — EL-06
EL-06 is a 125mm wide chevron engineered elm floor in CD natural character grade, embossed and finished with natural oil: 16/6mm multi-layer construction with a 6mm solid elm wear layer, tongue-and-groove full-spread adhesive glue-down installation. The combination of elm species, 6mm wear layer, embossment treatment, and deep natural oil colour makes EL-06 the most dramatically textured and tonally intense product in the AMUER chevron range. Elm is a fundamentally different species from European oak: its interlocked, swirling grain structure — with bold cathedral arches, tight ripple patterns, and dramatic grain reversals — produces a board face of natural complexity that oak cannot match. The embossment treatment accentuates every grain feature of the elm surface with a raised relief texture, and the deep natural oil penetrates the embossed grain to produce a dark, rich, chocolate-to-espresso tone that varies dramatically across the CD grade board faces. The perfect V-apex of the chevron pattern runs across this deeply textured, dark elm surface as a precise geometric spine — a controlled architectural structure over one of the most dramatically natural floor materials available in engineered format.

Stave Dimensions
125mm × 655mm — 125mm wide chevron board; 655mm long; both ends cut at 45°; supplied as matched left-hand and right-hand mirror boards (5.24:1 length-to-width ratio)
Pattern
Chevron — each stave cut at 45° at both ends; board ends align precisely so the joint runs in a continuous unbroken diagonal line across the floor, forming a repeating V-arrow (chevron) formation; distinguished from herringbone by the continuous unbroken diagonal joint and the sharper, more directional arrow movement
Colour
Dark Elm — deep chocolate-brown to near-espresso; the deep, penetrating dark tone is produced by the natural oil interacting with elm's high and varied tannin content; elm tannins are more reactive and varied than oak, producing a darker, more complex colour response; CD grade produces moderate board-to-board tonal variation within the dark chocolate range; in warm artificial light reads as rich dark chocolate; in cool or directional light reveals subtle warmth and the embossed grain's micro-highlight and shadow structure

PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Dark Elm Chevron — Elm Species, 6mm Wear Layer, Embossment, Natural Oil
EL-06 is the most dramatically dark and texturally complex floor in the AMUER chevron range — a product defined by four simultaneous distinctions: the elm species, the 6mm wear layer, the embossment surface treatment, and the deep natural oil colour response. No single one of these is sufficient to explain EL-06's character; it is their combination on a 125mm chevron canvas that produces a floor of exceptional visual intensity.

Elm, not Oak. Elm's grain structure is fundamentally different from European oak's. Where oak grain flows predominantly in straight-to-gently-curving lines along the board length, elm grain interlocks and reverses: it twists, swirls, creates tight ripple patterns, reverses direction across the board width, and produces dramatic cathedral arch sequences that are wider and more complex than oak's equivalent grain movements. The result is a board face that has natural visual complexity from the grain structure alone, before any surface treatment. CD grade elm does not need the dramatic knots of a DE or EF grade to produce character: the elm grain itself provides it.

6mm wear layer. The 6mm solid elm wear layer is the thickest in the AMUER chevron and parquet range — supporting 4–5 full sanding and refinishing cycles over the floor's lifespan. This makes EL-06 a genuinely long-term investment specification: the floor can be refinished multiple times, allowing the colour and surface to be restored or changed as interior design preferences evolve. For a floor of this visual intensity and material quality, the 6mm wear layer is the correct and most valuable specification.

Embossment on elm. The embossment treatment on EL-06 accentuates elm's complex interlocked grain with a raised relief texture — and on elm, embossment is more visually dramatic than on oak, because elm's grain topography is more varied and complex. The raised grain ridges in elm's swirling grain produce a more complex pattern of highlights and shadows than the predominantly straight-grain ridges of brushed oak. In raking or directional light, EL-06's embossed elm surface reads as a landscape of grain-following ridges and channels, each board face individually complex within the consistent dark chocolate ground.

Natural oil depth. Natural oil on elm produces a dramatically darker colour response than on oak, because elm's tannin content is higher and more reactive. The same natural oil that warms oak to honey-gold deepens elm toward a rich chocolate-to-espresso brown — a dark, penetrating tone that varies subtly across the CD grade boards' tannin variation and reads as complex and alive rather than flat or uniform.
Design Guide
EL-06's dark chocolate elm, embossed grain texture, 125mm chevron geometry, and natural oil depth place it in the most dramatically characterful and design-confident interior contexts.
Industrial & Urban Loft
EL-06 is the defining floor for industrial and loft-style interiors. The dark embossed elm chevron references antique mill-sawn timber in both colour and texture; the chevron geometry adds architectural precision to the raw material quality. Works with exposed brick and concrete walls, steel structural elements, black metal fixtures, and warm industrial lighting.
Dark Moody & Atmospheric
Against deep wall colours, EL-06's dark chocolate elm creates an enveloping material ground. The embossed grain adds visual richness and depth; the chevron V-apex reads as a geometric precision against the moody palette. In candlelight or warm artificial light, the embossed grain surface has an exceptional warmth and depth.
Heritage Artisan
EL-06's elm species, natural oil depth, and embossment surface treatment give it the material quality of genuinely antique flooring. In heritage and artisan interiors with stone surfaces, aged brass hardware, velvet upholstery, and antique furniture, EL-06 reads as the floor that belongs there — dark, rich, and honest.
Installation & Room Suitability
T&G Glue-Down — Chevron Requirements
· Full-spread flexible adhesive approved for engineered elm chevron parquet
· Subfloor flatness: 2mm per 2m maximum
· Subfloor moisture: ≤4% MC (timber) or ≤3.5% CM (concrete)
· Expansion gap: minimum 10mm at all walls
· Acclimatisation: 48 hours in installation space before laying

Notes
Living Rooms with directional light
Exceptional
EL-06 is at its most dramatic in rooms with directional natural light — raking sunlight from a window activates the embossed grain's ridge-and-channel contrast against the dark chocolate ground. The chevron V-apex reads strongly across the dark surface.
Industrial & Loft Style Interiors
Exceptional
EL-06's dark embossed elm chevron is the definitive floor for industrial, loft, and urban-artisan interiors. The dark tone, dense grain texture, and chevron geometry together create a floor of exceptional material intensity.
Moody & Atmospheric Living Rooms
Exceptional
Against deep teal, charcoal, forest green, or navy walls, EL-06's dark chocolate floor creates an enveloping, atmospheric interior. Embossed grain adds material richness at close range.
Heritage & Artisan Interiors
Exceptional
Dark elm conceals dining marks effectively. Natural oil requires prompt spill response. Embossed texture catches candlelight beautifully.
Bedrooms
Excellent
Dark elm creates a rich, enveloping bedroom floor. The chevron adds geometric structure. Natural oil requires periodic re-oiling maintenance.
Entrance Halls
Very Good
Dark elm chevron creates a dramatic, immediate entrance statement. V-point directs the eye. Glue-down is extremely durable in high-traffic entrance zones.
Kitchen (dry zone)
Good with care
Natural oil less water-resistant than lacquer. Suitable for kitchen dining zone. Strict spill protocol essential at square-edge chevron V-joints.
Bathrooms
Not Recommended
Not suitable for wet environments.
Care & Maintenance
Task
Method
Daily
Dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush head along grain direction. Embossed grain channels collect fine grit — remove regularly. Dark elm surface shows light dust and lint readily; regular sweeping is critical.
Weekly
Damp mop with well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral natural oil floor cleaner only. No steam mop. No standard household cleaners. No standing water. Work along grain direction.
Spills
Wipe immediately. Natural oil less water-resistant than UV lacquer. At square-edge chevron V-joints, remove spills before they penetrate the joint and reach the adhesive bed.
Chevron V-joints
Do not fill or caulk. The flush angled joint is an intentional design feature. Clean with soft vacuum brush along joint direction.
Periodic re-oiling
Re-oil every 1–3 years. Use a dark or neutral maintenance oil — do not use light or amber-toned maintenance oils that will shift the dark colour toward warm brown. Apply thinly across the full board face including embossed channels; allow 15–20 minutes penetration; buff off excess.
Elm-specific care
Elm is slightly harder than oak but can be dented by sharp point impacts. Felt pads under all furniture. The embossed grain channels of elm collect debris more readily than brushed surfaces — vacuum with soft brush attachment regularly.
Never
Steam mop · standing water at V-joints · wax or oil incompatible with natural oil maintenance · light or amber maintenance oils (will shift dark colour) · filling chevron V-joints · machine sanding without specialist guidance (elm's interlocked grain requires careful sanding direction).

FAQ
Q1. What makes elm flooring different from oak engineered flooring?
Elm and oak are fundamentally different hardwood species. Oak has predominantly straight-to-gently-curving grain that flows along the board length; elm has interlocked, swirling, reversing grain that twists and creates complex swirling patterns, tight ripple figure, and dramatic cathedral arches across the board face. Elm also has higher and more reactive natural tannin content, which means natural oil produces a much darker, richer colour response on elm than on the same oil applied to oak. EL-06's deep chocolate-to-espresso tone is elm's own natural colour response to natural oil — not a stain or pigment. Elm is a genuinely specialist flooring species; EL-06 is one of relatively few engineered elm chevron products available in the European and international market.
Q2. What does the embossment treatment do on elm?
Embossment on elm accentuates elm's naturally complex interlocked grain with a pressed relief texture — raising the harder grain ridges and deepening the grain channels. On elm, this effect is more visually complex than on oak because elm's grain structure is more varied: the swirling interlocked grain produces a more diverse pattern of raised ridges and deepened channels than the straighter grain of brushed oak. In directional or raking light, EL-06's embossed elm surface shows a rich landscape of lighter ridge highlights and darker channel shadows across the dark chocolate ground — a visual depth that flat-surfaced or brushed floors cannot replicate.
Q3.  Why is the 6mm wear layer significant on EL-06?
The 6mm solid elm wear layer on EL-06 is the thickest in the AMUER chevron range, supporting 4–5 full sanding and refinishing cycles over the floor's lifespan. This is significant for two reasons. First, it means EL-06 is a genuine long-term investment: the floor can be refinished multiple times, allowing the colour and surface condition to be restored as needed over decades of use. Second, each refinishing cycle can potentially change the finish and colour — a future owner could sand EL-06 and re-oil in a different colour, or apply a different finish entirely. The 6mm wear layer makes this flexibility possible.
Q4.  Can EL-06 elm chevron be used over underfloor heating?
Yes — EL-06 is compatible with both hydronic and electric UFH at a maximum surface temperature of 27°C. The T&G glue-down installation is the most thermally stable format for chevron over UFH. Allow 7 days for adhesive cure before activating UFH. Maintain indoor humidity at 45–60% RH year-round — natural oil finish requires consistent humidity management over UFH.
Q5.  What waste allowance is needed for EL-06 chevron?
Allow 12–15% waste for EL-06 chevron installation. The 45° angled board ends create larger perimeter off-cuts than square-ended formats. Complex room geometries with multiple doorways or irregular walls require a higher waste allowance. Your qualified parquet installer can calculate the specific requirement for your room.
Q6.  What is the minimum order for EL-06?
The standard minimum order for AMUER EL-06 is 200 m² per SKU. Free samples available — email arboren@arboren.com.
