Natural Oak in Its Most Honest Form
AM-01 is a 190mm wide long plank engineered oak floor in ABCD full character grade with a brushed surface and natural oil finish — AMUER's expression of European oak in its most complete and honest form, embracing knots, sapwood, mineral streaks, and the full tonal range of the species rather than filtering it to uniform appearance.
The ABCD grade specification is chosen deliberately. In the European oak grading system, ABCD accepts and celebrates every natural feature of the species: open knots of varying sizes that have been filled with clear resin or left as natural voids; darker filled knots where the original knot material remains intact; pale sapwood inclusions along board edges where the outer wood of the tree has been captured; grey-brown mineral streaks that cross the grain — a record of the minerals drawn through the tree's vessels over decades of growth. The result is a floor where no two boards are identical, where the installation reads as genuinely natural, and where the visual interest increases the more closely the floor is observed.
Design Guide
AM-01's warm natural tone and honest ABCD grain character make it one of the most versatile oak floor specifications available. Three most-requested interior combinations:

Contemporary Scandinavian
AM-01's pale natural amber tone provides the warmth that Scandinavian interiors need to prevent white-walled spaces from feeling sterile. The ABCD grain variation adds visual interest that monochrome Nordic schemes require. The brushed texture contributes tactile depth invisible from above but felt underfoot and at raking light.

Warm Transitional
In warm, layered interiors, AM-01 grounds the room. The honey and amber tones in the natural grain echo the pigments of limewash and clay plaster — floor and walls feel as though they draw from the same material palette. ABCD knots add rustic warmth without the visual weight of a hand-scraped finish.
Installation & Room Suitability
Click Installation (Floating)
AM-01 uses a Uniclic-compatible click floating system — boards lock without adhesive over an underlay. Suitable over concrete screed, existing tiles, existing vinyl, and timber subfloors.
•No adhesive required — clean installation, removable if necessary
•Subfloor flatness: ≤3mm per 2m — level before installation
•Expansion gap at all walls and fixed objects: minimum 10mm
•48-hour acclimatisation at room temperature before installation
•Pre-fitted foam or combination underlay recommended
Install in the direction of natural light where possible
Underfloor Heating
AM-01 is compatible with both hydronic and electric UFH systems. The 3-layer engineered construction resists the dimensional movement that solid wood experiences under heating cycles.
✓Maximum surface temperature: 27°C (hydronic and electric)
✓Switch off heating 24 hours before installation
✓After installation: increase 1–2°C per day to operating temperature
✓Maintain indoor humidity 40–65% RH year-round
✓Natural oil finish handles UFH cycles better than lacquer — no cracking risk
Thermal resistance ≤ 0.15 m²·K/W — within engineered floor specification
Room Suitability
| Room / Application | Suitability | Notes |
| Living Rooms & Open Plan | Excellent | Primary specification for AM-01. Warm ABCD grain anchors the room. Suitable across entire open-plan area including UFH zones. |
| Bedrooms | Excellent | Quiet underfoot with underlay. Natural oil tone creates a warm, restful environment. ABCD grade adds character without heaviness. |
| Hallways & Corridors | Very Good | ABCD character grain conceals minor surface wear effectively. Re-oil high-traffic areas annually. |
Home Offices | Very Good | Natural oil resists chair-castor marks well. Use a protective mat under desk chairs. |
Kitchens | Good | Suitable — seal all board joints at installation; wipe spills immediately; re-oil at least once per year in kitchen areas. |
Basements | Good | Engineered construction handles below-grade humidity. Lay DPC membrane over concrete before installation. |
Bathrooms / Wet Rooms | Not Recommended | Not suitable for persistent moisture — specify SPC for bathrooms and utility rooms. |
Light Commercial | Good | ABCD grain suits boutique retail and hospitality. For heavy commercial traffic, specify an AC4-rated product. |
Care & Maintenance — Natural Oil Finish
| Task | Method |
| Daily | Dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush head — no beater bar; brush direction of grain |
| Weekly | Damp mop with well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral wood floor cleaner — no standing water on oiled surface |
| Spills | Wipe immediately — natural oil is not waterproof; standing spills risk staining the open wood fibre |
Spot repair | Lightly abrade worn area (240 grit along grain) and re-oil locally — no need to sand the entire floor |
Full re-oil | Every 1–3 years depending on traffic — use AMUER Floor Care Oil or compatible penetrating oil |
Never | Steam mop · abrasive cleaners · bleach · solvent-based products · excessive water |

FAQ
Q1. What is natural oak ABCD grade engineered hardwood flooring?
Natural oak ABCD grade engineered hardwood flooring is a multi-layer engineered wood floor with a solid European oak wear layer over a cross-ply core, in the most characterful grade specification available — ABCD grade — which includes the full range of natural oak features: open and filled knots, sapwood inclusions, mineral streaks, and significant colour variation between boards.
AMUER AM-01 specifically has a 3mm solid oak wear layer over a cross-ply timber core (14mm total), 190mm × 1,900mm long plank format, brushed surface treatment, and natural oil finish with click installation. ABCD grade boards are never identical to one another — each plank carries its own grain character, making every AM-01 installation visually unique.
Q2. What does ABCD grade mean in engineered oak flooring?
ABCD grade is the most characterful classification in the European oak grading system — it includes all natural features found in the species with no restriction on knots, sapwood, colour variation, or mineral streaks.
In practice, an ABCD grade floor contains boards with open knots (filled with clear resin or left as natural voids), filled knots (darker knot material intact), pale sapwood at board edges, grey-brown mineral streaks across the grain, and strong colour variation from board to board. This is not a defect — it is the defining characteristic of the grade and the primary reason clients specify it for interiors that value authenticity and natural character over uniformity.
Q3. What is brushed surface treatment on engineered oak flooring?
Brushed surface treatment removes the softer early-wood fibres from the face of each oak board using steel wire brushes, leaving the harder late-wood grain slightly raised — creating a subtly textured surface that is neither smooth nor heavily distressed.
The brushed texture on AM-01 is felt as a gentle directional roughness underfoot, and visible in raking light as fine shadow lines along the grain direction. It accepts natural oil more evenly than a smooth surface, and conceals fine scratches and minor wear more effectively than a polished or flat surface.
Q4. What is natural oil finish on engineered hardwood flooring?
Natural oil finish is a penetrating wood treatment that soaks into the wood fibre rather than forming a surface coating — preserving the natural look and feel of the oak while protecting it from within, and allowing the floor to be spot-repaired or re-oiled without full sanding.
Unlike UV lacquer, which forms a hard surface film, natural oil leaves the wood open and the surface matte and tactile. The trade-off is greater maintenance: periodic re-oiling every 1–3 years and prompt wiping of spills. The benefit: an authentic wood appearance, local repairability, and a patina that develops over years of use that no lacquer floor can replicate.
Q5. Can AM-01 be used over underfloor heating?
Yes — AM-01 engineered hardwood flooring is compatible with both hydronic and electric underfloor heating systems with a maximum recommended surface temperature of 27°C.
The 3-layer engineered construction resists the dimensional movement that solid wood experiences under heating cycles. Before installation, switch off the heating system for 24 hours. After installation, restart gradually — increasing by 1–2°C per day. Natural oil finish handles UFH cycles better than lacquer finishes, as it does not risk surface cracking under thermal stress. Maintain indoor humidity at 40–65% RH year-round.
Q6. Can AM-01 be sanded and refinished?
Yes — AM-01 has a 3mm solid oak wear layer, which supports 2–3 full sanding and refinishing cycles over the floor's lifespan.
With natural oil finish, AM-01 also supports spot repair between full sanding cycles: worn or marked areas can be lightly abraded (240 grit along the grain) and re-oiled locally, significantly extending the time between full floor sanding. For most residential applications with proper maintenance, an AM-01 floor should not require full sanding for 15–25 years.
Q7. What is the minimum order for AM-01?
The standard minimum order for AMUER AM-01 is 200 m² per SKU from our China factory.
Free samples are available on request — email arboren@arboren.com or use the sample request form. Sample sections are dispatched free of charge to EU, US, Australian, and most international addresses within 2–3 business days. For OEM or private-label orders based on the AM-01 specification, the minimum order is 300 m².
Q8. Does AM-01 carry FSC and CE certification?
Yes — AM-01 carries CE marking (EN 13489), FSC chain-of-custody certification, CARB Phase 2 compliance, and ISO 9001:2015 certification as standard on every shipment.
CE marking is required for EU market sale and is issued with every delivery. FSC chain-of-custody documents the sustainable timber sourcing from certified forest to finished product — required for BREEAM and LEED project specifications. CARB Phase 2 enables US distribution without additional formaldehyde testing. Certification documents are available at /about/certifications/ or on request from arboren@arboren.com.
