Natural Oak Character, Refined — AM-02 EF Select Grade
AM-02 is a 190mm wide long plank engineered oak floor in EF select grade with a brushed surface and natural oil finish — the natural warmth and honest wood character of European oak, refined to a cleaner, more consistent visual appearance by the higher EF grade specification, which produces a floor with minimal knots, tighter grain, and lower inter-board colour variation than full-character ABCD grade, while preserving every quality of the natural oil and brushed surface finish.
The distinction between AM-02 and AM-01 is one of visual register, not of quality or material. Both products are 14/3mm, 190mm wide, brushed, and naturally oiled from the same European oak species and the same Chinese production facility. The difference is entirely in the grading: AM-01 ABCD accepts the full character range of the species — knots, sapwood, mineral streaks, strong variation. AM-02 EF selects for boards where knots are limited to pin-sized tight knots, where grain lines run consistently in one direction, and where colour variation from board to board is low. The installed result is a floor that reads as warm and natural, but calm and ordered rather than bold and characterful.
EF grade makes AM-02 the natural choice when a natural oil finish is specified but the interior design context calls for restraint — when the floor should provide warmth and material authenticity without competing with artwork, furniture, or architecture for visual attention. It is particularly effective in contemporary transitional interiors, where the floor is intended to be read as a quality material rather than a design statement; in spaces where the furniture is the primary visual interest; and in commercial environments — boutique retail, gallery spaces, hotel rooms — where consistency across large floor areas matters more than individual board character.
The brushed surface treatment is identical to AM-01: wire-brushed to remove soft early-wood fibres, leaving the late-wood grain fractionally raised. The tactile texture is subtle and directional, felt underfoot and visible in raking light, but it does not dominate the visual appearance of the floor. The natural oil finish penetrates the wood fibre completely, feeding the grain and preserving the natural amber tone of the oak without the sheen or barrier of a lacquer surface. The floor is matte, warm, and tactile — and, like all naturally oiled floors, it develops a richer patina over time as the oil is renewed and the wood responds to use.
Design Guide
AM-02 EF's clean warm amber tone is deliberately calm — a natural oak floor that provides material warmth without grain drama. Three interior combinations where this quality is most valued:
Warm Contemporary
AM-02's consistent EF grain allows the furniture and objects in the room to take the visual lead. Warm white or greige walls reflect the amber tones of the natural oil finish; aged timber furniture and matte brass hardware echo the warm palette of the oak without competing with its grain. The result is a coherent, layered interior where every element supports the others.
Gallery & Studio
AM-02 provides the warmth that pure white gallery spaces need to feel welcoming rather than clinical. The EF grain is minimal enough not to compete with artwork or product display. The natural oil surface reads as an authentic material without the visual noise of character grade. Ideal for gallery spaces, boutique retail, and professional studios.
Japandi / Wabi-Sabi
The Japandi aesthetic — Scandinavian restraint meets Japanese wabi-sabi — calls for natural materials expressed with quiet confidence. AM-02 EF fits precisely: warm natural oak tone, honest brushed texture, no artificial ageing or drama. Against clay plasters, rattan furniture, and undyed linen textiles, the floor grounds the space without interrupting the calm.
Installation & Room Suitability
Click Installation (Floating)
AM-02 uses a Uniclic-compatible click floating system — boards lock without adhesive over an underlay. Suitable over concrete screed, existing tiles, existing vinyl, and timber subfloors.
•No adhesive required — clean and reversible installation
•Subfloor flatness: ≤3mm per 2m — level before installation
•Expansion gap at all walls and fixed objects: minimum 10mm
•48-hour acclimatisation at room temperature before installation
•Pre-fitted foam or combination underlay recommended
Install in the direction of natural light where possible
Underfloor Heating
AM-02 is compatible with both hydronic and electric UFH systems. The 3-layer engineered construction resists the dimensional movement that solid wood experiences under heating cycles.
✓Maximum surface temperature: 27°C (hydronic and electric)
✓Switch off heating 24 hours before installation
✓After installation: increase 1–2°C per day to operating temperature
✓Maintain indoor humidity 40–65% RH year-round
✓Natural oil handles UFH cycles better than lacquer — no cracking risk
Thermal resistance ≤ 0.15 m²·K/W
Room Suitability
| Room / Application | Suitability | Notes |
| Living Rooms & Open Plan | Excellent | EF grade provides calm, consistent warmth across open-plan spaces. Works beautifully with both natural and artificial light. |
| Bedrooms | Excellent | EF grain and natural oil create a serene, warm bedroom environment. Low board-to-board variation suits restful spaces. |
| Hallways & Corridors | Excellent | Consistent EF appearance and brushed texture conceal light wear effectively. Re-oil high-traffic areas annually. |
Home Offices | Excellent | Natural oil surface, clean EF grain — ideal for working environments where the floor should recede visually. |
Kitchens | Good | Seal all board joints at installation. Wipe spills immediately. Re-oil annually in kitchen areas. EF grade shows fewer food stain patterns than ABCD. |
Basements | Good | Engineered construction handles below-grade humidity. Use DPC membrane over concrete before installation. |
Boutique Retail / Gallery | Very Good | EF consistency is well-suited to commercial spaces where floor uniformity supports the primary display. Low visual noise. |
Bathrooms / Wet Rooms | Not Recommended | Not suitable for persistent moisture — specify SPC flooring for bathrooms and wet rooms. |
Care & Maintenance — Natural Oil Finish
| Task | Method |
| Daily | Dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush head — no beater bar; brush direction of grain |
| Weekly | Damp mop with well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral wood floor cleaner — no standing water on oiled surface |
| Spills | Wipe immediately — natural oil is not waterproof; standing spills can stain the open wood fibre |
Spot repair | Lightly abrade worn area (240 grit along grain) and re-oil locally — no need to sand the entire floor |
Full re-oil | Every 1–3 years depending on traffic — use AMUER Floor Care Oil or compatible penetrating oil |
Never | Steam mop · abrasive cleaners · bleach · solvent-based products · excessive water |

FAQ
Q1. What is natural light oak EF grade engineered hardwood flooring?
Natural light oak EF grade engineered hardwood flooring is a multi-layer engineered wood floor with a solid European oak wear layer in EF select grade — the specification between prime and character grades — which produces a clean, consistent grain appearance with minimal knots and low inter-board colour variation, finished with a brushed surface and natural penetrating oil.
AMUER AM-02 has a 3mm solid oak wear layer over a cross-ply timber core (14mm total), 190mm × 1,900mm long plank format, brushed surface treatment, natural oil finish, and click installation. EF grade sits above ABCD character grade in cleanliness, but below G prime grade in strictness — it retains the natural warmth and authenticity of European oak while presenting a quieter, more uniform visual.
Q2. What is the difference between AM-02 EF grade and AM-01 ABCD grade?
The only difference between AM-02 and AM-01 is the grading: AM-02 is EF select grade (minimal knots, tight grain, low colour variation) and AM-01 is ABCD full character grade (open knots, sapwood, mineral streaks, strong inter-board variation) — all other specifications are identical.
Both products are 14/3mm, 190mm wide, brushed, naturally oiled, and produced at the same facility to the same quality standard. Choose AM-01 when bold character and visual individuality are the design intent. Choose AM-02 when a consistent, natural-looking floor is needed — where the floor provides warmth without competing with the furniture or architecture for visual attention.
Q3. What does EF grade mean in engineered oak flooring?
EF grade in engineered oak flooring designates a select grade specification — boards with minimal knots (small tight knots only), consistent tight grain structure, and low inter-board colour variation, producing a visually clean and ordered floor while remaining genuinely natural in surface and character.
In the European oak grading hierarchy: G (prime) is the cleanest — virtually clear of all features; EF (select) allows small tight knots and minor grain variation; ABCD (full character) includes the complete range including open knots, sapwood, and mineral streaks. AM-02 EF sits between prime and character — natural-looking but restrained.
Q4. What is the difference between AM-02 Natural Light Oak and AM-03 White Oak?
AM-02 Natural Light Oak uses natural oil finish, preserving the warm amber tone of European oak; AM-03 White Oak uses white oil finish, which adds a white pigment that lightens and cools the oak tone toward pale beige — similar brushed surface and EF grade, different colour temperature.
AM-02 reads as warm — honey, amber, and pale gold tones with a subtle natural patina. AM-03 reads as cool — pale beige, sand, and off-white tones with a Scandinavian whitened appearance. Both are 190mm, 14/3mm, EF grade, brushed, and click installation. The choice is entirely about palette: warm traditional versus cool contemporary.
Q5. What is natural oil finish and how does it differ from UV lacquer?
Natural oil finish penetrates the wood fibre rather than forming a surface coating — preserving the matte, tactile, open-wood feel of oak, and allowing spot repair and re-oiling without full sanding; UV lacquer forms a hard surface film, providing more scratch resistance and easier daily cleaning at the cost of a coated surface feel.
For AM-02, natural oil is the finish of choice when authenticity and spot-repairability matter more than maximum scratch resistance. An oiled floor can have worn or marked areas refreshed locally with 240-grit abrasion and a coat of oil, without sanding the entire floor. A lacquered floor is more resistant to scratches, but surface damage typically requires full sanding to repair well.
Q6. Can AM-02 be used over underfloor heating?
Yes — AM-02 engineered hardwood flooring is compatible with both hydronic and electric underfloor heating systems, with a maximum recommended surface temperature of 27°C.
The 3-layer engineered construction resists the dimensional movement solid wood experiences under heating cycles. Switch off UFH 24 hours before installation; restart gradually after installation, increasing temperature by 1–2°C per day. Maintain indoor relative humidity at 40–65% year-round. Natural oil finish handles UFH thermal cycling better than lacquer, as it does not risk surface cracking under heat stress.
Q7. Can AM-02 be sanded and refinished?
Yes — AM-02 has a 3mm solid oak wear layer, which supports 2–3 full sanding and refinishing cycles over the floor's lifespan.
With natural oil finish, AM-02 also supports spot repair between full sanding cycles: light abrasion (240 grit along the grain) followed by re-oiling restores worn areas locally. For most properly maintained residential applications, AM-02 should not require full sanding for 15–25 years.
Q8. What is the minimum order for AM-02?
The standard minimum order for AMUER AM-02 is 200 m² per SKU from our China factory.
