Warm, Wide, and Alive -- AM-14 CD Grade at 220mm
AM-14 is a 220mm wide plank engineered oak floor in CD natural character grade with a brushed surface and UV lacquer finish -- 14/3mm three-layer construction with a 3mm solid oak wear layer that delivers a floor with genuine visual energy: the warm honey-gold tone of natural European oak at CD grade, where flowing medullary rays catch the light, oval grain figures develop across the full 220mm width, and the brushed UV lacquer surface preserves every grain detail at maximum durability.

CD grade is the natural character specification that balances visual interest with visual coherence. It sits above ABCD -- which includes the most dramatic features -- and below EF select, which produces the cleanest, most uniform appearance. At CD grade, the grain is genuinely flowing and characterful: boards carry moderate tight knots, natural colour variation, and the active grain movement that makes European oak distinct from any other hardwood species. The flowing oval and flame figures that form in the grain are present and readable; the silver-gold flash of medullary rays crosses the grain direction at raking light. The floor has character without drama, warmth without wildness.

At 220mm wide, AM-14 provides the extended canvas that allows the full development of CD-grade grain features. The oval grain figures that form in the centre of the board -- where the growth rings of the tree sweep through the widest part of the plank -- are fully resolved at 220mm in a way that they cannot be in a narrower board. The medullary rays, which radiate from the centre of the tree outward, cross the full width of the board at varying angles, producing a surface of genuine visual depth that changes in character as the viewing angle and lighting conditions change through the day.

UV lacquer finish provides the durability and low maintenance that make AM-14 suitable for any residential application and many commercial contexts. The lacquer is UV-cured in the factory, forming a hard transparent film over the brushed oak surface at satin sheen. No periodic re-oiling is required; daily sweeping and occasional damp mopping maintain the floor throughout its life. When eventual refinishing is needed, AM-14's 3mm wear layer supports 2-3 full sanding cycles.
Design Guide
AM-14's vivid CD grain character and warm honey-gold tone make it a floor with genuine visual energy. Two interior contexts where AM-14's specific qualities are most valued:
Natural Oak Wide Plank Engineered Flooring -- AM-14
Warm Transitional
AM-14's warm honey-gold CD grain is the perfect floor for transitional interiors that blend contemporary space planning with warm, natural materials. Against warm white walls, the honey-gold tone glows; aged oak furniture picks up the amber tones of the CD grade variation; linen and wool textiles provide softness and texture to complement the brushed UV lacquer surface. The flowing grain figure adds visual interest without imposing a specific style direction.

Country Contemporary
In a country house or rural contemporary interior, AM-14 CD grade provides the floor material that reads as genuinely natural and appropriate to its setting. The grain drama of CD grade references historical timber flooring without requiring reclaimed material; the UV lacquer finish provides the durability that period properties need. Against limewash walls, natural stone surfaces, and original joinery, AM-14 completes the palette of natural materials.
Installation & Room Suitability
Click Installation (Floating)
AM-14 uses Uniclic-compatible click floating installation. At 220mm wide plank, careful subfloor preparation ensures an even, stable floor.
•No adhesive required -- click lock floating installation
•Subfloor flatness: 3mm per 2m maximum
•Expansion gap at all walls: minimum 12mm
•48-hour acclimatisation at room temperature before installation
•Install perpendicular to natural light for best grain appearance
•Stagger end joints: minimum 300mm between rows
Pre-fitted foam or combination underlay recommended
Underfloor Heating
AM-14 is compatible with both hydronic and electric UFH systems. The 3-layer engineered construction resists the dimensional movement solid wood experiences under heating cycles.
✓Maximum surface temperature: 27 degrees C
✓Switch off heating 24 hours before installation
✓Restart gradually: 1-2 degrees C per day to operating temperature
✓Maintain indoor humidity 40-65% RH year-round
✓UV lacquer handles UFH cycles without cracking risk
Thermal resistance 0.15 m2 K/W maximum

Task
Method
Daily
Dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush head -- direction of grain; no beater bar
Weekly
Damp mop with well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral lacquered floor cleaner -- no standing water
Spills
Wipe promptly -- UV lacquer is more water-resistant than oil but standing liquids can penetrate board joints over time
Scratches
CD grain texture and warm honey-gold tone conceal minor surface scuffs effectively. Deep scratches require professional spot lacquer repair.
Long-term
UV lacquer does not require periodic re-oiling or re-coating under normal residential use. When eventual refinishing is needed, the 3mm wear layer supports 2-3 full sanding cycles.
Never
Steam mop · abrasive cleaners · bleach · solvent-based products · oil or wax products (will cloud lacquer) · re-oiling (this is a lacquered floor)

FAQ
Q1. What is CD grade natural oak wide plank engineered flooring?
CD grade natural oak wide plank engineered flooring is a multi-layer engineered hardwood floor with a solid European oak wear layer in CD natural character grade -- moderate character features including flowing grain, vivid medullary rays, moderate tight knots, and natural colour variation -- in a wide plank format of 180mm or greater; in AM-14, 220mm wide with UV lacquer finish and click installation.
AMUER AM-14 is 220mm wide, 2,200mm long, 14/3mm total thickness with a 3mm solid oak wear layer, CD grade, brushed surface, UV lacquer, and click installation. The CD grade specification produces a floor with genuine visual energy -- the grain is characterful and vivid without the extreme variation of ABCD full character grade -- and the warm honey-gold natural tone of European oak expresses itself fully at this grade.
Q2. What is the difference between AM-14 CD grade and AM-05 DEF grade at 220mm?
AM-14 is CD grade -- moderate character features, vivid flowing grain, prominent medullary rays, more inter-board colour variation, and a richer warm honey-gold tone; AM-05 is DEF grade -- quieter natural character, less acute grain drama, more consistent colour, and a calm sandy-brown natural tone -- both are 220mm wide brushed UV lacquer click products.
The practical choice: specify AM-14 when the grain drama and colour warmth are intended as active design elements in the room. Specify AM-05 when the floor should provide a premium natural backdrop without imposing grain character. AM-14 has a 14/3mm construction (3mm wear layer, 2-3 sanding cycles); AM-05 has a 15/4mm construction (4mm wear layer, 3-4 sanding cycles). Request samples of both before specifying.
Q3. What are medullary rays in oak flooring and why do they appear in AM-14?
Medullary rays are structural cells in oak that radiated from the centre of the tree outward as it grew -- when sliced to make boards, these rays appear as silver-gold flashes or streaks that cross the grain direction at varying angles, producing a characteristic shimmer unique to oak among common European hardwoods.
In AM-14 at CD grade and 220mm width, the medullary rays are particularly prominent because the wider board captures more of the radial cross-section of the log where rays are most visible, and the CD grade does not filter them out as select or prime grades would. The brushed UV lacquer surface allows the rays to catch light clearly across the board face. At raking light -- morning or evening sun across the floor -- the rays can produce a striking silver-gold shimmer across the honey-gold ground of the natural oak tone.
Q4. How does CD grade compare to ABCD, EF, and DEF grades in engineered oak?
CD grade sits between EF select (minimal knots, tight grain, low variation) and ABCD full character (open knots, sapwood, mineral streaks, strong variation) -- CD has moderate tight knots, active grain flow, vivid medullary rays, and natural colour variation without the most extreme features of the full character specification.
In the European grading hierarchy: G (prime) is cleanest; EF (select) minimal features; DEF light to moderate; CD moderate character; ABCD full character. AM-14 CD grade occupies the position between DEF's quiet naturalism and ABCD's full drama. It is the specification for floors where the grain should contribute visual energy and warmth without dominating the interior.
Q5. Can AM-14 be used over underfloor heating?
Yes -- AM-14 is compatible with both hydronic and electric underfloor heating, maximum surface temperature 27 degrees C.
The 3-layer engineered construction resists the dimensional movement solid wood experiences under heating cycles. Switch off heating 24 hours before installation and restart gradually after installation, increasing by 1-2 degrees C per day. Maintain indoor humidity at 40-65% RH year-round. UV lacquer handles UFH thermal cycling without cracking risk.
Q6.  Can AM-14 be sanded and refinished?
Yes -- AM-14 has a 3mm solid oak wear layer supporting 2-3 full sanding and refinishing cycles over the floor's lifespan.
After sanding, AM-14 can be re-finished with UV lacquer to restore the natural oak appearance, or switched to a different finish if preferred. UV lacquer refinishing requires professional equipment; this is not a DIY operation. For most well-maintained residential applications, AM-14 should not require full sanding for 15-20 years.
Q7.  Is UV lacquer the right finish for CD grade oak at 220mm?
Yes -- UV lacquer is an excellent finish choice for AM-14 because it provides maximum surface durability and low maintenance requirements without diminishing the visual quality of the CD grain, while its hard surface film seals the brushed oak texture and allows the warm honey-gold tone and grain figure to read clearly through the satin sheen.
The alternative, natural oil, would enhance the tactile quality and patina development of the floor at the cost of periodic maintenance. For residential use at 220mm wide plank where durability and ease of maintenance are priorities alongside grain character, UV lacquer is the appropriate finish. For buyers who prioritise open-wood feel and patina development over maintenance convenience, AM-07 wax oil specification should be considered.
Q8. What is the minimum order for AM-14?
The standard minimum order for AMUER AM-14 is 200 m2 per SKU from our China factory.
