Natural Sandy Oak Wide Plank Engineered Flooring — AM-18
AM-18 is a 260mm wide plank engineered oak floor in ABC natural character grade with a brushed surface treatment and wax oil finish — 15/4mm three-layer construction with a 4mm solid oak wear layer — in a warm, natural sandy-cream tone that captures the authentic appearance of European oak at its most characteristic: a clear honey-to-cream ground with the flowing grain, pin knots, and subtle colour variation of ABC grade, deepened and nourished by a penetrating wax oil that feeds the wood rather than coating it, leaving a natural matte surface that feels and looks like real wood.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW · AM-18 NATURAL SANDY OAK
AM-18 is a 260mm wide plank engineered oak floor in a warm, natural sandy-cream tone — ABC grade, brushed surface, wax oil finish — the most characterful and authentically natural floor in the AMUER engineered hardwood range. Where many pale floors achieve their lightness through surface treatments that modify or mask the wood, AM-18 presents the actual colour of European oak: a warm honey-cream ground with the flowing grain, pin knots, natural colour shifts, and quiet variation of ABC character grade, brought to life by a penetrating wax oil that feeds the wood rather than coating it.
The wax oil finish is what defines AM-18's character as a floor. Unlike UV lacquer — which forms a protective film above the wood surface — wax oil penetrates the timber, filling the open grain channels opened by the brushing process and locking in moisture at the fibre level. The result is a surface that feels like wood because it is wood: no film, no sheen, no barrier between foot and fibre. The natural matte appearance of a wax-oiled floor reads warmer and more organic than any lacquered equivalent, and the open grain brushed surface texture is fully tactile rather than sealed away beneath a protective layer.
At 260mm, AM-18 sits in the same extra-wide plank format as AM-19, but occupies a completely different tonal and aesthetic position. Where AM-19 is cool, architectural, and intentionally contemporary, AM-18 is warm, natural, and grounded in the actual material character of European oak. The 260mm board width allows the full ABC grade character — flowing grain, colour shifts across the board face, occasional knots — to read across a generous canvas. In a large room, the 260mm boards create a floor surface that reads as a genuine landscape of wood rather than a repeated pattern.
ABC grade is the specification choice for spaces where natural character is valued over uniformity. AM-18 boards carry the moderate character features of ABC grading: small-to-medium tight knots (filled and stable), flowing grain with natural direction changes, occasional pin knots and mineral streaks, and colour variation across the board from pale cream to warm honey-amber. These features are not imperfections — they are the visual record of the tree's growth, distributed across 260mm of board face at 2,200mm length, creating a floor that is unique to each installation.
Design Guide
AM-18’s warm natural sandy tone, ABC character grade, and wax oil finish point strongly toward two design contexts where it is the definitive floor specification:

Country House & Farmhouse
AM-18 is the quintessential country house floor. Against aged timber beams, natural stone, worn leather, and aged linen, the warm sandy oak tone reads as a material that belongs in the space — undesigned, unhurried, and rooted in the natural world. The ABC character grade knots and grain variation add authenticity; the wax oil finish will develop patina alongside the other materials in the space over decades.

Warm Japandi & Natural Contemporary
In warm Japandi and natural contemporary interiors, AM-18’s sandy oak tone provides the warm, natural floor that anchors a material palette of linen, unbleached cotton, dark walnut joinery, wabi-sabi ceramics, and natural stone. The 260mm wide boards and wax oil finish emphasise the natural quality of the wood, and the ABC grade character ensures no two boards are identical — an important quality in interiors that value authenticity over perfection.
Installation & Room Suitability
Click Installation (Floating)
AM-18 uses Uniclic-compatible click floating installation. The 260mm extra-wide board format requires meticulous subfloor preparation — any unevenness is amplified across the wider board.
•No adhesive required — click lock floating installation
•Subfloor flatness: 3mm per 2m maximum — critical for 260mm boards
•Expansion gap at all walls: minimum 15mm (wider gap required for 260mm format)
•48-hour acclimatisation at room temperature before installation
•Install perpendicular to room entry for optimal visual effect
Stagger end joints: minimum 400mm between adjacent rows
Underfloor Heating
AM-18 is compatible with both hydronic and electric UFH. Extra-wide 260mm boards and wax oil finish require careful humidity management throughout the year.
•Maximum surface temperature: 27°C (hydronic and electric)
•Switch off heating 48 hours before installation
•After installation: increase 1–2°C per day to target temperature
•Maintain indoor humidity 45–60% RH year-round — tighter range for 260mm boards
•Wax oil finish is more moisture-sensitive than lacquer — maintain humidity diligently
Thermal resistance 0.15 m²K/W maximum
Room Suitability
| Room / Application | Suitability | Notes | |
| Open Plan Living | Excellent | 260mm natural sandy oak creates a warm, characterful floor plane in open-plan spaces. The ABC grade variation reads as a rich landscape of natural wood at distance. | |
| Living Rooms | Excellent | The ideal application for AM-18 — warm natural tone and character grade work with traditional, contemporary, and transitional palettes. Wax oil appearance improves with age in lived-in spaces. | |
Bedrooms | Excellent | Warm sandy tone creates a calm, natural bedroom environment. Wax oil’s organic appearance particularly well-suited to the intimate context of bedrooms.
Home Offices | Very Good | Natural oak tone provides a warm, focused environment. Wax oil surface compatible with desk chairs — use a protective mat under castors.
Hallways | Very Good | Extra-wide boards make hallways feel more expansive. Wax oil requires spot-maintenance for scuffs and marks in high-traffic areas; periodic re-oiling especially important in hallways.
Kitchen | Good with care | Wax oil less water-resistant than UV lacquer. Seal all joints carefully. Wipe spills immediately. More maintenance-demanding than lacquered versions in kitchens; acceptable for low-traffic domestic kitchens.
Country House / Farmhouse | Exceptional | AM-18 is the defining specification for country house, farmhouse, and traditional property floors. ABC character, wax oil finish, and 260mm width are the classic combination for this application.
Hospitality — Rooms & Suites | Good | Natural sandy tone creates a welcoming, resort-style hotel room. Wax oil maintenance programme must be factored into housekeeping schedule.
Bathrooms | Not Recommended | Not suitable for persistent moisture. Wax oil particularly vulnerable to water ingress in wet environments — specify SPC flooring for bathrooms.
Care & Maintenance — Wax Oil on Brushed Surface
| Task | Method | ||
| Daily | Dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush head — no beater bar. Remove grit and abrasive particles promptly, as these cause surface scratching on wax oil more readily than on lacquered floors. | ||
| Weekly | Damp mop with well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral wax oil floor cleaner — no standing water. Do not use standard floor cleaners; use only products formulated for wax oil floors to avoid stripping or dulling the oil finish. | ||
| Spills | Wipe immediately — wax oil is less water-resistant than lacquer and prolonged moisture contact can raise the grain, cause staining, or produce white tide marks on the surface. | ||
Periodic re-oiling | Re-oil every 1–3 years depending on traffic — use same wax oil product as original factory finish, or a compatible maintenance oil. Apply thinly with cloth or white pad, allow to penetrate, buff off excess. High-traffic areas may need annual treatment.
Spot repair | Wax oil floors are spot-repairable: sand affected area lightly with fine-grit paper, re-oil, and blend into surrounding boards. This is a significant advantage over lacquered floors where damage requires panel replacement.
Scratches | Fine scratches and scuffs can be buffed with a white maintenance pad and a small amount of wax oil, then blended in. The natural matte surface of wax oil is more forgiving of minor surface wear than lacquer.
Never | Steam mop · standing water · standard household cleaners (bleach, vinegar, all-purpose) · lacquer or polyurethane products · abrasive pads or scourers · oil-based furniture polish (different formulation from floor wax oil).

FAQ
Q1. What is natural sandy oak engineered flooring?
Natural sandy oak engineered flooring is a warm honey-cream-toned engineered hardwood floor that presents the authentic natural colour of European oak under a penetrating wax oil finish, with the flowing grain, natural character features, and open texture of a brushed surface creating a genuinely natural-looking and feeling floor.
AMUER AM-18 is 260mm wide, 2,200mm long, 15/4mm total thickness with a 4mm solid European oak wear layer, ABC natural character grade, brushed surface treatment, wax oil finish, and click installation. It is the most naturally characterful floor in the AMUER wide plank range — warm, organic, and authentically wood-like in both appearance and feel.
Q2. What is the difference between wax oil and UV lacquer on oak flooring?
Wax oil is a penetrating finish that soaks into the wood fibres and preserves a natural matte appearance and open wood feel; UV lacquer forms a hard protective film above the wood surface, sealing the grain and producing a more durable, low-maintenance but visually sealed result.
AM-18’s wax oil finish means the floor feels like real wood underfoot with no film between foot and fibre, has a natural matte appearance that improves with age, and is spot-repairable. The trade-off is that wax oil requires periodic re-oiling every 1–3 years and is more vulnerable to water than lacquer. For buyers who prioritise natural appearance and are willing to maintain the floor, wax oil is the superior specification.
Q3. What is ABC grade oak flooring?
ABC grade oak flooring is a natural character grade specification that includes the full range of European oak character features — small-to-medium tight knots, flowing grain with natural direction changes, pin knots, mineral streaks, and natural colour variation across the board face.
AM-18’s ABC grade means every board carries visible natural features: knots (filled and structurally stable), grain movement, and colour shifts from pale cream to warm honey-amber. These are not imperfections — they are the authentic material character of European oak. ABC grade is the specification for buyers who want a floor that looks genuinely natural rather than uniform or uniform-appearing.
Q4. how often does a wax oil floor need re-oiling?
A wax oil engineered oak floor typically requires re-oiling every 1–3 years depending on traffic levels, with high-traffic areas such as hallways needing annual treatment and lower-traffic areas such as bedrooms requiring less frequent maintenance.
Re-oiling AM-18 is a straightforward process: clean the floor, apply the maintenance oil thinly with a cloth or white pad, allow it to penetrate for 15–20 minutes, and buff off the excess. The wax oil feeds and nourishes the wood at each service, and the floor will develop a richer, deeper natural patina with successive oil treatments over many years. Spot re-oiling between full treatments is also possible for high-wear areas.
Q5. Can AM-18 be used over underfloor heating?
Yes — AM-18 engineered hardwood flooring is compatible with both hydronic and electric underfloor heating systems, with a maximum recommended surface temperature of 27°C.
The 3-layer engineered construction resists dimensional movement under heating cycles. Extra-wide 260mm boards and wax oil finish require careful humidity management — maintain 45–60% RH year-round. Switch off heating 48 hours before installation and restart gradually after installation, increasing by 1–2°C per day. Wax oil is more moisture-sensitive than lacquer, so diligent humidity control is especially important for AM-18.
Q6. What does 15/4mm mean for engineered oak flooring?
15/4mm means the board has a total thickness of 15mm, with 4mm of that being solid European oak as the wear layer on top — the remaining 11mm being the cross-ply timber core construction.
The 4mm solid oak wear layer in AM-18 supports 3–4 full sanding and refinishing cycles over the floor’s lifespan, making it one of the most resandable engineered hardwood specifications available. The cross-ply core provides dimensional stability under changes in humidity and temperature, making the 15/4mm engineered construction significantly more stable than solid oak at the same total thickness.
Q7.Can AM-18 be sanded and refinished?
Yes — AM-18 has a 4mm solid oak wear layer supporting 3–4 full sanding and refinishing cycles over the floor’s lifespan.
After sanding, AM-18 can be re-finished with wax oil (to maintain the original natural appearance) or changed to UV lacquer, natural oil, or white oil. If changing from wax oil to lacquer, ensure all traces of the original wax oil are fully removed before lacquering, as wax residue prevents lacquer adhesion. Full refinishing should be carried out by a professional floor sanding contractor.
Q8. What is the minimum order for AM-18?
The standard minimum order for AMUER AM-18 is 200 m² per SKU from our China factory.
