Natural Oak 120mm Herringbone Engineered Flooring — AM-25
Natural Oak 120mm Herringbone Engineered Flooring — AM-25
AM-25 is a 120mm herringbone engineered oak floor in AB natural character grade, brushed and finished with natural oil: 14/3mm three-layer construction with a 3mm solid European oak wear layer, tongue-and-groove installation for glue-down or secret-nail fixing. The herringbone pattern at 120mm width occupies a distinctive position in the AMUER herringbone range: wider than the classic 90mm herringbone, producing a bolder, more architectural zigzag repeat, while remaining proportionally correct for a broad range of room sizes from compact to large. The AB grade delivers the warm, full natural character of European oak — cathedral grain arches, gentle knots and pin features, and warm honey-gold colour variation from pale cream to amber-gold — without the more dramatic knots and sapwood contrast of lower character grades. The brushed surface opens the grain to provide visible texture without the heavy distressing of hand-scraped or saw-mark treatments, and the natural oil finish penetrates the oak fibres to present the species' authentic colour and warmth with an open-pore matte surface. The result is a herringbone floor that reads as simultaneously traditional in pattern and contemporary in material quality: warm, natural, textured, and precisely finished.

3mm solid European oak — supports 1–2 light sanding cycles
Stave Dimensions
120mm × 600mm — 120mm wide herringbone plank; 600mm long; 5:1 length-to-width ratio producing a bold herringbone repeat
Pattern
Herringbone — 45° classic herringbone (point parquet) pattern; boards laid at 45° to the room axis; creates the classic zigzag V-pattern from any viewpoint
Colour
AM-25 Natural Oak — warm honey-gold to amber-gold; the authentic unmodified natural colour of European oak; AB grade delivers the full warm range of oak colour from pale cream-gold heartwood to richer amber heartwood; no stain, bleach, or chemical modification; colour is 100% natural oak with natural oil enhancement
Surface Treatment
Brushed — wire brush treatment opens the natural oak grain structure; the softer early-wood fibres are brushed back to reveal the harder late-wood grain ridges; adds visible texture to the board face without the heavy distressing of hand-scraped or saw-mark surfaces; the brushed texture catches light across the herringbone pattern, adding visual depth to the zigzag repeat
Finish
Natural Oil — plant-based penetrating natural oil; feeds and nourishes the brushed oak fibres; enhances and warms the natural honey-gold oak colour; open-pore matte surface; the most authentic finish for a natural-grain brushed oak; requires periodic maintenance re-oiling to preserve the surface condition and colour depth
Grading
AB — Premium Natural Character Grade: warm, full natural character; cathedral grain arches and gentle grain movement; occasional small pin knots and fine mineral streaks; minimal sapwood; predominantly warm heartwood across the board face; consistent warm honey-gold tone with natural colour variation; all features structurally stable; the AB grade is the correct choice for a herringbone floor where visual complexity is provided by the pattern geometry rather than extreme board character
Edge Profile
Square Edge — no bevel or chamfer; boards sit flush at every joint; produces a seamless, continuous surface across the herringbone pattern; the square edge allows the herringbone geometry to read without interruption from joint shadow lines
Installation
T&G (Tongue and Groove) — glue-down or secret-nail to subfloor; herringbone requires full adhesive bonding for pattern stability; expansion gap minimum 10mm at all walls; 48-hour acclimatisation required; installation by qualified parquet flooring specialist recommended
Underfloor Heating
Compatible — maximum surface temperature 27°C (hydronic and electric); herringbone glue-down installation is the most stable format for UFH; maintain indoor humidity 45–60% RH year-round; natural oil finish requires humidity management

PRODUCT OVERVIEW · AM-25 NATURAL OAK HERRINGBONE

120mm Herringbone — The Pattern and the Material in Balance

AM-25 is the 120mm natural oak herringbone in the AMUER range: a wider herringbone plank than the classic 90mm format, producing a bolder, more architectural zigzag geometry while retaining the proportional correctness of a herringbone pattern in a broad range of room sizes. The 120mm plank width increases the scale of the herringbone repeat, making each individual V visible from across the room and giving the floor a stronger directional energy than the 90mm format. In a large room or an open-plan space, this bolder repeat reads as confident and designed; in a smaller room, the 120mm repeat adds scale and visual expansion to the floor plane.
The 600mm board length produces a 5:1 length-to-width ratio — the classic herringbone proportion — ensuring the pattern reads as a clean, ordered geometric field rather than a fragmented or compressed zigzag. The relationship between the 120mm width and the 600mm length is key to the floor's visual success: it is the same proportional relationship as the 90×450mm classic herringbone, scaled up to a wider, bolder format.
The AB grade delivers warm, full natural character across the herringbone pattern. Unlike a long-plank floor where the board character reads linearly, a herringbone floor distributes the grain pattern geometrically across the floor plane: cathedral grain arches appear at different angles in alternating boards, creating a complex, shifting natural pattern across the zigzag repeat. The AB grade's warm honey-gold colour range — from pale cream-gold to richer amber-gold — provides just enough variation to make the herringbone pattern read as natural and alive without the extreme colour contrast of a lower character grade that could compete visually with the pattern geometry.
Brushed surface and natural oil finish are the correct combination for AM-25. The brushed grain texture adds a visible line structure to each board face that follows the grain direction — and in a herringbone pattern, where alternating boards run in opposing directions, the brushed grain structure of adjacent boards reads at right angles to each other, creating a subtle light-and-shadow interplay across the herringbone joints that gives the floor additional visual depth in directional light. The natural oil finish preserves and enhances the warm honey-gold oak colour with an open-pore matte surface: no sheen, no lacquer film, just the natural material presented honestly.
Design Guide
AM-25's warm honey-gold oak tone, 120mm herringbone geometry, brushed grain, and natural oil finish work across a wide range of interior styles. The herringbone pattern itself contributes strongly to the interior aesthetic: it is simultaneously traditional (the pattern has been in continuous use since antiquity) and contemporary (the wider 120mm format reads as modern and architectural).
Contemporary Traditional
AM-25 is the ideal floor for contemporary interiors that reference traditional material quality. The herringbone pattern is inherently traditional; at 120mm width with natural oil finish, it reads as confidently contemporary. Works with warm white walls, aged brass hardware, natural stone surfaces, and warm linen upholstery.
Warm Scandi & Japandi
In warm Scandinavian and Japandi interiors, AM-25's natural honey-gold oak and brushed grain provide the warm, natural material foundation. The herringbone pattern adds geometric order that Japandi aesthetics balance with natural material warmth. Works with dark ash joinery, warm wool textiles, and handmade ceramics.
Classic & Heritage
Herringbone is the classic heritage floor: in a traditionally decorated interior with deep wall colours, antique furniture, and rich textiles, AM-25 reads as the natural and historically correct flooring choice. The warm honey-gold oak and natural oil provide the authentic material quality that heritage interiors require.
T&G Installation — Chevron Pattern Laying Guide
T&G Glue-Down Installation
Herringbone T&G flooring must be fully glued to the subfloor. Unlike click floating formats, herringbone installation requires adhesive bonding for pattern stability — the multi-directional stress of the herringbone layout cannot be managed by a floating installation.
•Adhesive: use approved full-spread flexible adhesive for engineered herringbone
•Subfloor flatness: 2mm per 2m maximum (tighter tolerance than long plank)
•Subfloor moisture: ≥4% MC (timber) or ≤3.5% CM (concrete screed) before installation
•Expansion gap: minimum 10mm at all walls and fixed structures
•Acclimatisation: 48 hours at room temperature in the installation space
•Layout: establish a centre line from the room's main viewpoint; lay from centre outward
•V-point direction: V-points toward main entrance or primary view
•Square edge: do not fill joints — flush square-edge joints are an intentional feature
Qualified installer: herringbone installation should be carried out by an experienced parquet flooring specialist
Underfloor Heating
AM-25 is compatible with hydronic and electric UFH. The glue-down T&G installation is the most thermally stable format for engineered herringbone flooring over UFH.
•Maximum surface temperature: 27°C
•Switch off UFH 48 hours before installation
•After installation: 7-day cure for adhesive before activating UFH
•Increase temperature gradually: +1–2°C per day to target
•Maintain indoor humidity 45–60% RH year-round
•Natural oil finish requires humidity management — critical for herringbone joint stability
•Thermal resistance: 0.15 m²K/W maximum (including adhesive bed)

Notes
Living Rooms (medium–large)
Exceptional
AM-25's 120mm herringbone is at its best in medium to large living rooms. The bolder repeat reads confidently at room scale, creates a strong directional energy from the entrance, and works with the full range of contemporary and traditional interior palettes. Natural oil and warm honey-gold tone are ideal for a warm, welcoming living room.
Open Plan Living
Exceptional
The 120mm herringbone creates a strong geometric ground plane in open-plan spaces. The pattern reads clearly across the full floor area, creates visual zones within the open plan, and the warm natural oak tone anchors the space without competing with furniture or kitchen cabinetry.
Entrance Halls & Hallways
Exceptional
Herringbone has historically been specified for entrance halls: the V-point directs the eye and the visitor into the space, the pattern creates visual impact at the entry point, and the glue-down installation is extremely durable. AM-25 at 120mm creates a bold entrance statement.
Dining Rooms
Excellent
The herringbone pattern is a classic dining room floor. Natural oil maintenance is manageable in a dining context with prompt spill response. The warm honey-gold tone is complementary to dining room furniture and candlelight.
Bedrooms
Excellent
Herringbone creates a calm, ordered geometric quality in the bedroom. The 120mm repeat is bold enough to read clearly at bedroom scale. Natural oil requires no periodic re-oiling unless the bedroom has high traffic.
Home Offices
Very Good
Herringbone adds visual interest to a home office without requiring additional decor. The ordered geometric pattern creates a focused, productive atmosphere. Protect with a desk chair mat.
Kitchen (dry zone)
Good
Natural oil less water-resistant than lacquer. Suitable in kitchen dining or seating zones. Prompt spill removal essential; avoid installation directly in front of sinks or cooking areas.
Bathrooms
Not Recommended
Not suitable for persistent moisture exposure.
Care & Maintenance — Natural Oil on Brushed Oak Herringbone
Task
Method
Daily
Dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush head across the herringbone pattern (not along a single direction). The brushed grain channels collect fine grit — remove regularly. The warm honey-gold tone is forgiving of dust but regular sweeping preserves the natural oil surface.
Weekly
Damp mop with a well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral natural oil floor cleaner only — no standard household cleaners, no steam mop, no standing water. Mop across the herringbone pattern in the direction that follows the boards most naturally.
Spills
Wipe immediately with a dry cloth. Natural oil is less water-resistant than lacquer. Prompt spill removal is essential at square-edge herringbone joints — do not allow liquid to penetrate into joints and reach the adhesive bed.
Square-edge joints
Do not fill or caulk herringbone joints — the flush square-edge is an intentional feature. Clean joints with a soft brush or vacuum attachment. Do not force water or cleaning solution into joints.
Periodic re-oiling
Re-oil every 1–3 years depending on traffic. Use a natural or neutral-toned maintenance oil matched to the natural oak colour (avoid white, grey, or coloured maintenance oils on AM-25). Apply thinly with a cloth or brush, working across the herringbone pattern. Allow 15–20 minutes penetration, buff off excess. Re-oiling restores colour depth and surface protection.
Never
Steam mop · standing water · filling herringbone joints · standard household cleaners · bleach or acid cleaners · lacquer or polyurethane over natural oil · coloured or white maintenance oils · abrasive pads · dragging furniture across the herringbone surface.

FAQ
Q1. What is 120mm herringbone engineered oak flooring?
120mm herringbone engineered oak flooring is an engineered hardwood floor laid in the classic herringbone (point parquet) pattern using boards 120mm wide and 600mm long, installed at 45° to the room axis in alternating left-hand and right-hand orientations to create the characteristic V-shaped zigzag pattern. AMUER AM-25 is 120mm × 600mm, 14/3mm total thickness with a 3mm solid European oak wear layer, AB natural character grade, brushed surface treatment, natural oil finish, and T&G tongue-and-groove glue-down installation.
Q2. What is the difference between 90mm and 120mm herringbone?
The primary difference is the scale of the herringbone V-repeat. At 90mm, the herringbone repeat is compact and refined, working well in all room sizes including smaller rooms and hallways. At 120mm (AM-25), the V-repeat is bolder and more architectural, reading more confidently in medium to large rooms and open-plan spaces. The 120mm format is more contemporary in feeling, while the 90mm format is more traditionally proportioned. Both use the same 45° herringbone geometry; the difference is purely in the scale of the pattern repeat.
Q3.  Does herringbone flooring require glue?
Yes — AM-25 herringbone T&G flooring requires full-spread flexible adhesive installation (glue-down). Unlike click floating formats, herringbone installation cannot be done as a floating floor: the multi-directional stress of the herringbone pattern requires the boards to be fixed to the subfloor by adhesive bonding for pattern stability. Secret-nail fixing can supplement adhesive on timber subfloors. Herringbone installation should be carried out by a qualified parquet flooring specialist.
Q4. Can AM-25 herringbone be used over underfloor heating?
Yes — AM-25 is compatible with both hydronic and electric underfloor heating, maximum surface temperature 27°C. The glue-down T&G installation is the most thermally stable format for engineered herringbone over UFH. Allow 7 days for adhesive cure before activating the UFH system. Maintain indoor humidity at 45–60% RH year-round; natural oil finish requires humidity management.
Q5. What direction should herringbone flooring be laid?
The herringbone V-point should face toward the main entrance or the principal viewpoint into the room, so the pattern reads as a directional arrow leading the eye into the space. Installation typically begins from a centre line established perpendicular to the main viewpoint, laying outward in both directions to maintain pattern symmetry. A qualified installer will establish the correct start point and direction for each room geometry.
Q6.   How do you maintain natural oil on herringbone flooring?
Natural oil on herringbone flooring is maintained by regular dry sweeping or vacuuming across the pattern, weekly damp mopping with pH-neutral natural oil floor cleaner, and periodic re-oiling every 1–3 years with a natural or neutral-toned maintenance oil. Do not use white, grey, or coloured maintenance oils on AM-25 as they will shift the natural honey-gold oak colour. Prompt spill removal at square-edge joints is essential to prevent liquid penetrating the joint and reaching the adhesive bed.
Q7. What is the minimum order for AM-25?
The standard minimum order for AMUER AM-25 is 200 m² per SKU from our China factory. Free samples are available — email arboren@arboren.com. Samples are dispatched to EU,Australian, and most international addresses within 4-5 business days.
