Elm Geometric Parquet 600×600mm Engineered Panel Natural Oil— EL-04
Elm Geometric Parquet 600×600mm Engineered Panel Natural Oil— EL-04
EL-04 is a 600×600mm factory-assembled engineered elm geometric parquet panel in CD natural character grade with a brushed surface and natural oil finish: 18/6mm construction with a 6mm solid elm wear layer — one of the thickest wear layers in the AMUER range — tongue-and-groove (T&G) glue-down installation.
EL-04 is the only elm species product in the AMUER engineered flooring range, and the only product offered with multiple distinct geometric pattern options within the same product code: a radiating eight-point star pattern (octagonal star radiating from a central point, each panel quarter mirrored to create a pinwheel-like medallion) and a basket-weave diagonal lattice pattern (interlocking diagonal bands crossing at 45° to form a woven trellis effect), both framed within a mitred perimeter border. Panels can be specified in either pattern, or mixed across a floor installation for a varied parquet medallion effect.
Elm (Ulmus spp.) brings a distinct material character to this geometric parquet format: a warm grey-mauve to taupe-brown colour palette, pronounced and often dramatic grain figure with strong cathedral and swirl patterns, and a naturally rustic, antique visual quality that the natural oil finish enhances rather than modifies. EL-04 is specified where a genuinely distinctive, antique-character geometric parquet floor — in a species rarely seen in engineered flooring — is the design brief.

EL-04 Detail
Product Code
EL-04
Species
Elm (Ulmus spp.) — the only elm species product in the AMUER engineered flooring range
Construction
Engineered Hardwood — solid elm face, cross-ply engineered core, balancing back; dimensional stability for the 600×600mm geometric panel format
Total Thickness
18/6mm (18mm total, 6mm wear layer — one of the thickest wear layers in the AMUER range)
Top Layer
6mm solid elm — supports 3–4 sanding and refinishing cycles; substantial refinishing capacity reflecting the panel's positioning as a premium decorative feature floor
Panel Dimensions
600mm × 600mm — factory pre-assembled complete geometric parquet panel; smaller and more concentrated than the 800×800mm Versailles format, suited to medallion-style feature panel applications as well as full-floor geometric parquet installations
Pattern
Radiating Star Pattern / Basket-Weave Diagonal Pattern
Colour
EL-04 Natural Elm — a warm grey-mauve to taupe-brown palette distinct from oak or walnut; elm's natural colour sits in a cooler, more muted register than oak's honey-gold or walnut's chocolate-brown — a sophisticated grey-brown with subtle purple-mauve undertones; the CD grade colour variation spans lighter grey-tan to deeper taupe-brown across the strips within each geometric panel; no tonal modification — the colour is the natural elm tone under natural oil finish
Surface Treatment
Brushed — wire or nylon brushes remove the soft early-wood fibres to expose the harder late-wood grain lines in tactile relief; elm's grain anatomy is more pronounced and irregular than oak's, so the brushed texture on EL-04 produces a more dramatic, sculptural surface relief than brushed oak; the brushing follows the grain direction within each individual strip of the geometric pattern, creating directional texture changes at every pattern junction
Finish
Natural Oil — penetrating oil finish that soaks into the elm wood fibres rather than forming a surface film; enhances the natural grey-mauve colour and dramatic grain figure of elm; produces a warm, matte, tactile surface; natural oil is sympathetic to elm's pronounced grain character, allowing the wood's natural figure to read with maximum depth; requires periodic maintenance re-oiling every 12–18 months
Grading
CD — Natural Character Grade: pronounced grain figure, cathedral and swirl grain patterns characteristic of elm, knots, colour variation across the grey-mauve to taupe-brown range; elm naturally exhibits more dramatic and irregular grain figure than oak even at equivalent character grades — CD grade elm displays exceptional natural visual interest within the geometric pattern strips
Edge Profile
Mitred frame edges with T&G panel-to-panel joints; the geometric pattern strips within each panel are precision-cut and assembled with tight mitred joints at the panel's internal geometric junctions
Installation Method
T&G (Tongue-and-Groove) glue-down — full-spread flexible adhesive across the entire panel back; nail-down suitable for timber subfloor; floating not recommended for geometric panel format
Installation Notes
Subfloor flatness: 2mm per 2m maximum. Expansion gap: 12mm minimum at all walls. Acclimatise panels 72 hours before installation. For mixed-pattern installations (star and basket-weave), plan the panel layout in advance to determine the distribution of each pattern across the floor area — commonly used as a feature medallion centred in a room, surrounded by plain plank or a simpler parquet field.
Underfloor Heating
Compatible — maximum surface temperature 27°C; maintain 45–60% RH year-round; natural oil finish requires careful humidity management; use flexible adhesive for UFH installations

PRODUCT OVERVIEW · EL-04 ELM GEOMETRIC PARQUET

The Only Elm Floor in the AMUER Range — Geometric Parquet with Natural Oil Warmth

EL-04 occupies a unique position in the AMUER range as the only product specified in elm (Ulmus spp.) — a species distinct from the oak and walnut that dominate the rest of the collection, and one rarely seen in engineered hardwood flooring generally. The choice of elm for this geometric parquet panel format is deliberate: elm's natural grain character, with its pronounced figure, cathedral patterns, and swirling grain movement, is particularly well suited to the visual drama of geometric parquet patterns, where the play of grain direction across multiple strips within a single panel creates much of the pattern's visual interest.
Elm's colour palette — a warm grey-mauve to taupe-brown range with subtle purple undertones — is also distinct from anything else in the AMUER collection. Where the oak range spans honey-gold to smoked near-black, and the walnut range spans chocolate-brown to russet, elm introduces a cooler, more muted, more sophisticated grey-brown register that reads as genuinely different and individually characterful.
The two pattern options — radiating star and basket-weave — give EL-04 unusual versatility within a single product specification. The star pattern, with its focal medallion quality, is suited to feature panel applications: a centrepiece in an entrance hall, beneath a dining table, or as an accent within a simpler floor field. The basket-weave pattern, with its even repeating rhythm, is suited to full-floor geometric installations in larger rooms. Both patterns can be combined within a single floor for a varied, bespoke geometric parquet composition — a level of design flexibility not available in the AMUER Versailles or chevron/herringbone products, which offer a single fixed pattern.
The 6mm wear layer and natural oil finish complete the specification with practical substance: the thick wear layer supports 3–4 refinishing cycles, and the natural oil finish is sympathetic to elm's dramatic grain figure, allowing the wood's natural character to read with maximum depth and warmth.
Two Geometric Patterns — Star Medallion & Basket-Weave
Radiating Star Pattern
The star pattern panel of EL-04 is built from mitred elm strips that radiate outward from a central point, with each of the panel's four quadrants mirrored to produce a symmetrical eight-point star or pinwheel medallion. The radiating strips create a strong sense of movement away from (or toward) the panel centre — a focal, medallion-like visual effect distinct from the repeating linear geometry of chevron or herringbone.
This pattern has historical roots in French and Central European parquet de menuiserie traditions, where radiating star and rosette medallions were used as feature panels in grand reception rooms, often as a single dramatic central panel rather than a repeated floor-wide pattern.
Best use: centrepiece medallion in an entrance hall, a focal panel beneath a dining table or in a room's geometric centre, or repeated across a floor for a continuous star-lattice effect in large rooms.
Basket-Weave Diagonal Pattern
The basket-weave panel of EL-04 is built from elm strips arranged in interlocking diagonal bands that cross at 45° to form a woven lattice or trellis effect across the panel — visually similar to the weave of a woven basket, hence the name. The diagonal crossing bands create a continuous, repeating geometric rhythm that works well as a full-floor pattern across larger areas.
Basket-weave parquet has a long history in European classical flooring, often used as a less formal alternative to Versailles parquet — a pattern with strong geometric interest but a more even, repeating visual rhythm than the compartmentalised Versailles design.
Best use: full-floor geometric parquet installation in a grand room, or combined with star panels as an alternating feature pattern across a larger floor area.
Design Guide
EL-04's distinctive grey-mauve elm colour, dramatic CD grade grain figure, dual geometric pattern options, and natural oil finish position it for design-led, antique, and eclectic interior contexts seeking genuine individuality:
Eclectic & Bohemian Design-Led
EL-04's distinctive grey-mauve colour and dramatic elm grain figure are a natural fit for eclectic, bohemian, and maximalist interiors that prize individual, characterful materials over standard neutral palettes. The star medallion pattern works beautifully as a focal feature beneath layered rugs, antique furniture, and curated decorative objects.
Antique & Period Renovation
Elm has genuine historical precedent in European antique flooring and furniture, making EL-04 an authentic choice for period property renovation seeking a less commonly specified, more individually characterful geometric parquet than oak Versailles or chevron. The natural oil finish and CD grade character read as appropriately aged and material-authentic.
Design-Led Contemporary Feature
For design-led contemporary interiors where the floor is intended as a deliberate material statement rather than a neutral background, EL-04's rarity in the market — both the elm species and the dual geometric pattern options — provides a genuine point of differentiation for projects seeking a floor unlike anything readily available from standard oak suppliers.
Installation — Elm Geometric Panel Glue-Down Guide
Subfloor & Layout Planning
EL-04's geometric panels require careful layout planning, particularly for mixed star/basket-weave installations or feature medallion applications.

· Subfloor flatness: 2mm per 2m maximum
· Subfloor dryness: concrete maximum 75% RH; anhydrite maximum 65% RH
· For feature medallion applications: determine the medallion's position (typically room centre) and plan the surrounding field pattern (plain plank, simpler parquet, or matching basket-weave) before installation begins
· For full-floor geometric installations: establish the panel grid from room centre using chalk lines on both axes
· Dry-lay panels to confirm pattern orientation and colour distribution across the installation before committing to adhesive
Glue-Down Installation
Full-spread flexible adhesive glue-down is the standard installation method for EL-04 panels.

· Adhesive: flexible polyurethane or MS polymer — full trowel spread across entire panel back
· Press firmly and evenly across the full panel surface; use rubber mallet and tapping block on panel edges
· Weight panels during adhesive cure
· Expansion gap: 12mm minimum at all walls
· Acclimatise panels 72 hours at room temperature and target humidity before installation
· Allow adhesive to cure minimum 48 hours before foot traffic
· Apply first maintenance natural oil coat after installation per manufacturer instructions if not pre-finished at factory

Notes
Entrance Hall Feature Medallion
Exceptional
The star pattern panel of EL-04 is purpose-built for entrance hall feature medallion applications — a single dramatic panel or small grouping at the entrance, surrounded by a simpler floor field. The radiating star and elm's distinctive grey-mauve colour create a striking, individual first impression.
Design-Led & Eclectic Residential
Exceptional
EL-04's elm species, distinctive colour, and dual pattern options make it the natural specification for design-led and eclectic interiors seeking a floor that is genuinely different from the standard oak and walnut market. Interior designers specifying for clients who want individuality will find EL-04's rarity in the market a significant advantage.
Living Rooms (Full-Floor Geometric)
Excellent
The basket-weave pattern works well as a full-floor specification in living rooms where a continuous geometric parquet effect is desired. The grey-mauve elm colour pairs distinctively with sage, dusty rose, and antique furniture palettes.
Antique & Period Property Renovation
Excellent
Elm has historical precedent in European parquet flooring; EL-04's natural oil finish and CD grade character are appropriate for antique and period property contexts seeking an authentic, characterful geometric floor.
Dining Rooms
Very Good
The star pattern as a feature panel beneath a dining table, or basket-weave as a full dining room floor, both work well. Natural oil requires periodic maintenance appropriate for dining room use.
Boutique Hospitality — Feature Areas
Good
For boutique hotels and restaurants seeking a distinctive feature floor element — a reception desk surround, a private dining room centrepiece — EL-04's rarity and visual drama suit accent applications well; for full commercial floor coverage, consider AMUER's UV lacquer oak products for greater durability.
Bathrooms / Wet Areas
Not Recommended
Not suitable for wet environments.
Care & Maintenance — Brushed Elm Natural Oil Parquet
Task
Method
Daily
Dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush head, following the grain direction within each strip of the geometric pattern. Because the pattern strips run in multiple directions within each panel, sweep in several directions to clear debris from all grain orientations.
Weekly
Damp mop with well-wrung cloth and a compatible natural oil floor cleaner — do not use standard household cleaners or UV-lacquer-formulated products. No steam mop, no standing water; natural oil is a surface-open, moisture-sensitive finish.
Spills
Wipe immediately with a dry cloth. Natural oil provides limited short-term water resistance; prompt action is essential, particularly at the panel's internal mitred geometric joints where multiple strip ends meet.
Geometric joints
The internal joints of the star and basket-weave patterns are more numerous and run in more directions than a simple plank floor. Vacuum with a soft brush attachment along each joint direction periodically to remove debris.
Periodic re-oiling
Re-oil every 12–18 months in normal use. Clean thoroughly, allow to dry, apply compatible maintenance natural oil with a cloth or buffing pad, allow to absorb and cure 24 hours before foot traffic. Elm's pronounced grain figure benefits visually from regular re-oiling, which deepens and enriches the natural grey-mauve colour over time.
Scratches
Light surface scratches can often be addressed with spot re-oiling. Deeper scratches: light sanding of the affected strip followed by spot re-oiling. Given the 6mm wear layer, professional sanding and refinishing is possible for more significant damage.
Never
Steam mop · standing water · UV lacquer maintenance products · standard household cleaners · bleach or acid cleaners · silicone-based polishes · abrasive pads.

FAQ
Q1.  What is elm geometric parquet flooring?
Elm geometric parquet flooring (EL-04) is a 600×600mm factory pre-assembled engineered hardwood panel made from elm (Ulmus spp.) rather than the oak or walnut used in most engineered flooring. EL-04 is available in two geometric pattern options: a radiating eight-point star medallion pattern, or a basket-weave diagonal lattice pattern. Both are CD natural character grade with a brushed surface and natural oil finish, 18/6mm construction with a 6mm solid elm wear layer, and T&G tongue-and-groove profile for glue-down installation. Elm's natural grey-mauve to taupe-brown colour and pronounced cathedral grain figure are distinct from the warmer, more common oak and walnut species.
Q2.  What is the difference between the star pattern and basket-weave pattern options for EL-04?
The star pattern is a radiating eight-point medallion formed from mitred elm strips radiating from a central point with mirrored quadrants — a focal, medallion-like pattern historically used as a centrepiece panel in grand European reception rooms. The basket-weave pattern is an interlocking diagonal lattice of crossing 45° bands creating a continuous woven trellis effect — historically used as a less formal, evenly repeating alternative to compartmentalised patterns like Versailles. Both patterns share the same 600×600mm panel, elm species, CD grade, and finish, and can be mixed within a single floor installation. The star pattern suits feature medallion applications (entrance halls, focal panels); the basket-weave suits full-floor geometric installations in larger rooms.
Q3.  Why use elm instead of oak for this geometric parquet?
Elm's natural grain character — pronounced cathedral patterns, dramatic swirling figure, and more irregular grain movement than oak — is particularly well suited to the visual drama of geometric parquet, where multiple strips meeting at angles within a panel create much of the pattern's visual interest. Elm's natural colour, a cooler grey-mauve to taupe-brown register, is also genuinely distinct from oak's warm honey-gold and walnut's chocolate-brown, offering designers a flooring colour option not commonly available elsewhere. Because elm is used far less frequently in engineered flooring than oak, EL-04 also provides a point of material rarity and individuality for design-led projects.
Q4.  Can the two EL-04 patterns be mixed in one floor installation?
Yes — because the star and basket-weave patterns of EL-04 share the same 600×600mm panel dimension, species, grade, and finish, they can be combined within a single floor installation. A common approach is to use the star pattern as a feature medallion (for example, centred in an entrance hall or beneath a dining table) surrounded by a field of basket-weave or plain plank, creating a varied, bespoke geometric composition. Plan the layout in advance to determine the placement and proportion of each pattern before installation.
Q5.  How often does EL-04's natural oil finish need to be maintained?
The natural oil finish on EL-04 should be re-oiled approximately every 12–18 months in normal residential use. Re-oiling is a straightforward process: clean the floor thoroughly, allow to dry, apply a compatible maintenance natural oil with a cloth or buffing pad, and allow to absorb and cure for 24 hours before foot traffic. Elm's pronounced grain figure benefits visually from regular re-oiling, which deepens the natural colour and enhances the wood's grain depth over time. The geometric pattern's multiple internal joints should be checked and vacuumed regularly as part of routine maintenance.
Q6.   What is the minimum order and lead time for EL-04?
Standard MOQ for full floor installations is 200 m² per SKU. For feature medallion or accent panel applications using a small number of panels, contact AMUER directly — small-quantity orders for individual feature panels may be available outside the standard MOQ. Lead time is typically 40-50 business days, longer than standard oak products, reflecting both the additional factory assembly time for geometric panels and the more specialised sourcing process for elm raw material. Free samples available — email arboren@arboren.com.
Q7.   Is elm as durable as oak for flooring use?
Elm is a moderately hard hardwood suitable for residential and light commercial flooring use, though it is generally considered somewhat less hard than European oak. EL-04's 6mm wear layer — one of the thickest in the AMUER range — provides substantial durability and refinishing capacity (3–4 sanding cycles) that compensates for elm's moderate hardness relative to oak. For very high-traffic commercial applications, AMUER's oak UV lacquer products may be a more durable specification; for residential and feature panel use, EL-04's elm construction and thick wear layer provide ample durability.
