Engineered Oak Flooring | AMUER

Detail Information
Introduction
Engineered oak flooring is the most widely specified species in the global hardwood flooring market — valued for its open grain, warm tonal range, hardness, and compatibility with every surface finish and laying pattern. At AMUER, oak is the core of our product range and the species we have manufactured at the highest volume since our founding in 1997.
AMUER engineered oak flooring is produced at our factory in China (50,000 m², approximately 300 workers) and our European facility in Serbia (35,000 m²), where locally sourced Balkan and European oak is processed under FSC chain-of-custody certification. Available in European oak and white oak across six colour treatments, seven surface textures, five laying patterns, and all standard thickness and width profiles. Factory direct to distributors, contractors, architects, and developers in 200+ countries.
European Oak vs White Oak: Which to Choose?
AMUER produces two distinct oak varieties, each with different visual character, grain structure, and design application. Understanding the difference is the first step in specifying the right product for your project:
| European Oak | White Oak | |
| Grain character | Open, pronounced grain with warm amber undertones and natural character markings — knots, mineral streaks, and colour variation between boards | Tighter, more uniform grain with a cooler, pale tone — less variation between boards, cleaner appearance |
| Colour range | Natural amber to warm honey — takes stain colours (smoked, grey, white) very well | Naturally pale and cool — suits lighter stains and natural oil finishes; can be stained to grey or white |
| Janka hardness | Approximately 1,120 lbf — hard, durable, suitable for all traffic levels | Approximately 1,360 lbf — slightly harder, excellent durability |
Design style | Versatile — suits traditional, contemporary, rustic, and Scandinavian interiors | Contemporary, minimalist, Scandinavian, and coastal interiors — increasingly the top-specified oak in EU design |
Best finishes | All seven AMUER finishes — particularly good with distressed, hand-scraped, and deep-brushed textures | Wire brushed and UV oil — tight grain responds exceptionally to brushing; also suits smooth UV lacquer |
Best patterns | All five patterns — the most popular choice for herringbone globally | Herringbone, wide plank, and chevron — clean grain works well with geometric patterns |
Market demand | Consistently the highest-volume species worldwide | Fastest-growing species in EU and North American markets 2023–2025 |
Both varieties are available across the full AMUER range. If you are unsure which suits your project, contact our team at arboren@arboren.com and we will advise based on your interior scheme, use case, and finish preference.
About Oak as a Flooring Species
Oak (Quercus) has been the dominant European flooring timber for centuries — a position it holds not by convention alone, but because its physical properties make it exceptionally suited to high-traffic floor applications:
Hardness
Oak registers approximately 1,120–1,360 lbf on the Janka hardness scale — hard enough to resist denting and scratching under normal residential and commercial foot traffic, while remaining workable for cutting and machining.
Grain stability
Oak has a relatively consistent, interlocked grain structure that responds predictably to cutting, finishing, and ageing. The grain accepts stain and pigment evenly, which is why oak works well across such a wide range of colour treatments — from natural to smoked black.
Moisture response
Like all hardwoods, solid oak expands and contracts with changes in humidity. In engineered construction — which AMUER uses — the cross-ply core neutralises this movement, making engineered oak dimensionally stable in conditions where solid oak would be high-risk, including over underfloor heating, in kitchens, and in open-plan spaces with variable humidity.
Tannin content
Oak has naturally high tannin content, which gives it its distinctive amber tone and also makes it highly resistant to fungal decay and insect attack. Tannin also reacts with iron, so stainless or non-ferrous fixings should be used in installation.
Ageing character
Oak mellows and deepens in tone with light exposure over time — a process called photoxidation. Natural and lightly finished oak floors develop a richer, warmer patina over years of use. This is considered a desirable characteristic in premium residential and hospitality applications.
Oak Colour Palette
AMUER engineered oak flooring is available in six standard colour treatments, each produced using reactive stains, pigmented oils, or smoke-fuming processes that penetrate the wood fibre rather than sitting on the surface. All colours are available across both European oak and white oak.
