AC-22 Warm Smoked Oak Brushed Surface Detail
Warm Smoked Oak Wide Plank Engineered Flooring -- AC-22
AC-22 is a 260mm extra-wide plank engineered oak floor in CD natural character grade with a brushed-and-smoked surface and UV lacquer finish -- 15/4mm three-layer construction with a 4mm solid oak wear layer -- delivering a warm brown-gold smoked tone with vivid, active grain that distinguishes it from the deeper tobacco tones of other smoked oak products: the ammonia fuming on AC-22 enhances and warms the oak rather than darkening it to the deepest possible degree, producing a golden-amber warmth with the full grain drama of CD character grade visible beneath and within the smoked surface.

Warm Smoke and Vivid Grain -- AC-22 at 260mm
AC-22 is a 260mm extra-wide engineered oak floor in a 15/4mm three-layer construction with a 4mm solid oak wear layer, brushed and smoked to a warm brown-gold tone with UV lacquer finish. Like all AMUER smoked oak, the colour is produced by ammonia fuming — a permanent tannin reaction rather than a surface treatment — but AC-22 is fumed at a lighter intensity than the deeper specifications in the range. The result sits tonally between natural amber oak and the heavy tobacco of the darkest smoked floors: warm, deepened, and enriched, but not darkened to the point where the grain disappears beneath a uniform surface.

That lighter fuming intensity is what defines AC-22's character. The floor is specified in CD grade at 260mm width, which means dramatic grain — oval and flame figures, bold knot zones with swirling grain movement, and the silver-gold flash of medullary rays in raking light — and at AC-22's smoke level, all of it remains fully legible. Most striking are the blue-grey resin-filled knot nodes: against the warm brown-gold ground of the lighter smoke, the cool blue-grey of the resin fills creates a warm-cool colour contrast that is intrinsic to the ammonia fuming process itself, produced by the vapour reacting differently with resin than with the surrounding oak tannins. No stained or painted floor can replicate it. The result is a floor with the depth of a smoked product and the grain expressiveness of a natural character-grade oak — visually rich in a way that neither approach achieves alone.
Design Guide
AC-22's warm brown-gold smoked tone and vivid grain drama make it the most expressive floor in the AMUER 260mm smoked range. Three interior contexts where AC-22's specific qualities are most valued:
AC-22 Warm Smoked Oak Flooring in Heritage Residential Interior
Warm Heritage Residential
AC-22's warm gold-brown smoked tone is the natural partner for heritage materials: aged oak joinery, exposed stone, warm plasters. The vivid grain and CD character grade read as consistent with the material quality of a period building while the smoked depth and UV lacquer provide modern performance. The grain drama of the floor rewards the close-range viewing that occurs in residential settings -- at dining tables, fireside seating, and staircase landings.
AC-22 Warm Smoked Oak Flooring in Eclectic Contemporary Interior
Eclectic Contemporary
In an eclectic interior where colour, pattern, and art compete for attention, a floor should ground the room without dominating it. AC-22's warm smoked tone is rich enough to hold its own in a complex palette but warm enough not to read as a design statement in itself. The grain drama of the CD grade adds visual interest without imposing a single aesthetic direction -- the floor belongs equally in a maximalist and a transitional context.
Installation & Room Suitability
Click Installation (Floating)
AC-22 uses Uniclic-compatible click floating installation. The 260mm extra-wide board format requires careful subfloor preparation -- any irregularity is amplified across the wider board face.
•No adhesive required -- click lock floating installation
•Subfloor flatness: 3mm per 2m maximum -- critical for 260mm boards
•Expansion gap at all walls: minimum 15mm
•48-hour acclimatisation at room temperature before installation
•Install perpendicular to room entry for best appearance
•Stagger end joints: minimum 400mm between adjacent rows
Pre-fitted foam or combination underlay recommended
Underfloor Heating
AC-22 is compatible with both hydronic and electric UFH. At 260mm extra-wide, careful humidity management is essential to prevent edge movement in the wider boards.
✓Maximum surface temperature: 27 degrees C
✓Switch off heating 48 hours before installation
✓Restart gradually: 1-2 degrees C per day to operating temperature
✓Maintain indoor humidity 45-60% RH year-round
✓UV lacquer handles UFH cycles without cracking risk
Thermal resistance 0.15 m2 K/W maximum

Notes
Living Rooms & Open Plan
Excellent
Warm smoked tone at 260mm creates a generous, visually active floor plane. Grain drama suits large open-plan spaces where the floor is seen at distance and at close range.
Dining Rooms
Excellent
Seen at eye level from a chair, the vivid grain figure, medullary rays, and blue-grey knot nodes are all fully visible at AC-22's lighter fuming intensity.
Master Bedrooms
Excellent
Warm brown-gold tone creates a rich, intimate bedroom environment. 260mm boards provide a calm, generous floor quality without sacrificing visual interest.
Heritage & Period Buildings
Excellent
The grain drama and warm smoked tone of AC-22 works particularly well in period buildings -- the vivid figure and character reference aged oak floors without requiring reclaimed timber.
Home Offices & Studies
Very Good
Warm, characterful environment. UV lacquer provides durability; chair mat recommended under desk chairs.
Hallways
Very Good
Extra-wide boards create an expansive hallway floor. UV lacquer handles traffic well. Warm tone forgiving of minor marks.
Kitchen
Good
UV lacquer more water-resistant than oil. Seal board joints at installation. Wipe spills promptly.
Hospitality -- Rooms
Very Good
Warm grain-active smoked oak suits properties targeting a warm, characterful design profile. UV lacquer suits housekeeping protocols.
Bathrooms
Not Recommended
Not suitable for persistent moisture -- specify SPC flooring for wet rooms.
Care & Maintenance -- UV Lacquer on Brushed-Smoked Surface
Task
Method
Daily
Dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush head along grain direction -- brushed texture collects fine dust in grain channels
Weekly
Damp mop with well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral lacquered floor cleaner -- no standing water
Spills
Wipe promptly -- UV lacquer protects but standing liquids risk penetrating board joints over time
Grain valleys
The brushed texture channels may collect fine dust -- vacuuming along the grain direction most effective; occasional soft brush for deeper texture zones around knot features
Long-term
No periodic re-oiling or re-coating required. The smoked colour is permanent. If eventually refinished, the floor can be re-fumed and re-lacquered to restore the warm smoked appearance
Never
Steam mop · abrasive cleaners · bleach · solvent-based products · oil products · re-oiling (lacquered floor)

FAQ
Q1. What is warm smoked oak wide plank engineered flooring?
Warm smoked oak wide plank engineered flooring is an engineered hardwood floor with a solid oak wear layer treated by ammonia fuming at a lighter intensity that produces a warm brown-gold tone rather than deep tobacco -- preserving the natural grain drama of the oak through the smoke -- in a 260mm extra-wide plank format.
AMUER AC-22 is 260mm wide, 2,200mm long, 15/4mm total thickness with a 4mm solid oak wear layer, CD natural character grade, brushed-and-smoked surface, UV lacquer, and click installation. The lighter fuming intensity means that the vivid grain figure, medullary rays, and bold CD-grade knots remain highly active through the smoked tone -- the grain drama of the floor is a primary design element, not a background texture.
Q2. How does AC-22 differ from AC-09 in colour and appearance?
AC-22 is lighter-smoked than AC-09, producing a warm brown-gold tone in which the grain drama of the CD grade specification remains vivid and active; AC-09 is deeper-smoked, producing a richer tobacco-amber tone in which the colour depth is the primary visual element and the grain is more absorbed into the unified dark tone.
Both products are 260mm, 15/4mm, CD grade, brushed-and-smoked, UV lacquer, click. The difference is entirely in the fuming intensity and the resulting colour depth. AC-22 suits interiors where the floor should read as warm, golden, and grain-expressive. AC-09 suits interiors where depth and colour unity are the priority. Request samples of both products before specifying -- the tonal difference is significant and is best judged in the actual installation context.
Q3. Why do the knots in AC-22 appear blue-grey against the warm ground?
The blue-grey colour of resin-filled knots in AC-22 is caused by the ammonia fuming process reacting differently with the resin fill in the knot voids than with the wood tannins in the surrounding timber -- the resin does not contain the same tannins as the wood, so it takes on a cooler, greyer tone while the surrounding wood darkens to the warm brown-gold of the fumed oak.
This cool knot tone against a warm smoked ground is an intrinsic quality of ammonia-fumed character-grade oak -- it cannot be replicated by pigment staining or surface treatment because it is the result of a differential chemical reaction within the wood itself. The contrast between the cool blue-grey knot nodes and the warm brown-gold ground is one of the most visually distinctive features of AC-22 and is one of the primary reasons clients specify it.
Q4. What does CD grade mean in the context of AC-22 warm smoked oak?
CD grade in AC-22 warm smoked oak means the boards have moderate natural character features -- swirling grain around knot zones, bold medullary rays, natural colour variation, and small to medium tight knots -- all of which are amplified and enriched by the ammonia fuming process, producing a more visually dramatic surface than the same grade would in natural unsmoked oak.
The fuming process interacts with every natural feature of the wood: knots take on the characteristic blue-grey tone; medullary rays flash more vividly against the smoked ground; grain figure zones develop greater three-dimensional depth. CD grade in smoked oak is chosen specifically when the grain character is intended to be a feature of the floor -- it produces a richer, more complex result in a smoked context than cleaner grades would.
Q5. Can AC-22 be used over underfloor heating?
Yes -- AC-22 is compatible with both hydronic and electric underfloor heating, with a maximum recommended surface temperature of 27 degrees C.
At 260mm extra-wide, AC-22 requires careful humidity management -- maintain indoor relative humidity at 45-60% RH year-round to prevent edge movement in the wider boards. Switch off heating 48 hours before installation and restart gradually, increasing by 1-2 degrees C per day. UV lacquer handles UFH thermal cycling without cracking risk.
Q6. Will the warm smoked colour of AC-22 change over time?
The smoked colour of AC-22 is very stable under UV lacquer because it is a permanent chemical change to the oak's tannin structure rather than an applied pigment -- it will not fade, shift in tone, or deteriorate significantly over the lifetime of the floor under normal use.
The lighter fuming intensity of AC-22 versus deeper smoked products does not make it less stable -- the chemical reaction with the tannins is permanent at any fuming intensity. UV lacquer seals the surface and prevents light and air from reaching the wood, further stabilising the colour. When the floor is eventually refinished, re-fuming at the same intensity and re-lacquering restores the AC-22 tone fully.
Q7. Can AC-22 be sanded and refinished?
Yes -- AC-22 has a 4mm solid oak wear layer supporting 3-4 full sanding and refinishing cycles over the floor's lifespan.
After sanding, AC-22 can be re-fumed at the appropriate lighter intensity and re-finished with UV lacquer to restore the warm brown-gold smoked appearance. Alternatively, after sanding, the floor can be finished with a different treatment if a different tone is preferred. Full refinishing requires professional equipment and should be carried out by a flooring specialist.
Q8. What is the minimum order for AC-22?
The standard minimum order for AMUER AC-22 is 200 m2 per SKU from our China factory.
Free samples are available -- email arboren@arboren.com. Samples are dispatched to EU, Australian, and most international addresses within 4-5 business days. We strongly recommend requesting samples of both AC-22 and AC-09 to compare tones before specifying. OEM orders with custom fuming intensity are available from 200 m2 MOQ.
