Natural Oak Wide Plank Engineered Flooring -- AM-14
Smoked Amber Oak Wide Plank Engineered Flooring — AC-08
AC-08 is a 260mm wide plank engineered oak floor in EF select character grade with a combined saw mark and smoked surface treatment, finished with wax oil — 15/4mm three-layer construction with a 4mm solid oak wear layer — in a rich smoked amber tone that is achieved through the ammonia fuming process reacting with the natural tannins of the European oak: a warm, golden-to-tawny amber colour of genuine structural depth, crossed by the directional linear texture of the saw mark, sealed and nourished by penetrating wax oil that preserves the open, natural feel of both the smoked tone and the saw mark surface.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW · AC-08 SMOKED AMBER OAK
AC-08 is a 260mm wide plank engineered oak floor combining two distinct surface treatments — smoking and saw mark — with a wax oil finish in the AMUER extra-wide plank range. The result is a floor of unusual depth and warmth: the golden-tan-to-amber colour produced by the smoking process, crossed by the directional linear striations of the saw mark, finished with a penetrating wax oil that opens the wood rather than sealing it — a specification that reads as both contemporary and timeless, combining the colour warmth of aged or fumed timber with the visual precision of the saw mark texture.
The colour of AC-08 is produced by ammonia fuming — a traditional technique in which freshly cut or sanded oak is exposed to ammonia vapour in a sealed environment. The ammonia reacts directly with the tannins naturally present in the wood, causing an oxidation reaction that darkens the fibres from the inside out. The resulting amber tone is not a stain, pigment, or dye: it is a structural colour change to the wood itself, with the characteristic depth and variation of a reaction-based process rather than the flat uniformity of a pigmented surface treatment. Under wax oil, this oxidised amber reads as warm, rich, and almost luminous — the natural matte surface of the oil finish allowing the full depth of the smoked colour to show.
The saw mark treatment is applied across the smoked surface, drawing circular saw blades across the full 260mm board face to create fine parallel striations that run from edge to edge. On the amber smoked ground, these striations add a layer of directional texture — the saw mark lines catch the light differently from the oxidised grain beneath, creating a subtle visual rhythm across the board face that is distinct from both a plain brushed surface and a plain smoked surface. The combination of smoking and saw mark is a more complex aesthetic proposition than either treatment alone: the colour is warm and deep; the texture is precise and linear; the overall effect is richly layered.
EF grade is the correct grading specification for AC-08. With two visual treatments — smoking and saw mark — already creating significant visual complexity across the board face, the clean, near-uniform grain of EF grade allows both the smoked amber colour and the saw mark texture to read without competing knot features or grain drama. In contrast, an ABC or CD grade smoked oak can read as visually overwhelming, with colour variation, knots, and grain movement all fighting for attention simultaneously. EF grade on AC-08 means the colour and the texture are the design elements; the wood is the background.
Design Guide
AC-08’s smoked amber tone, saw mark texture, and wax oil finish make it one of the most distinctive floor specifications in the AMUER range. Two design contexts where it is the definitive choice:
Warm Contemporary & Mid-Century AC-08
Warm Contemporary & Mid-Century
AC-08 is the floor of choice for warm contemporary and mid-century influenced interiors. Against dark walnut furniture, aged leather upholstery, warm copper and brass hardware, and deep olive or forest green walls, the smoked amber oak floor creates a cohesive palette of warm, dark, natural materials — the amber tone reads as a natural partner to every warm-dark material in the room. The 260mm boards and saw mark texture add a layer of contemporary precision to an otherwise classic warm material palette.
Dark Dramatic & Moody AC-08
Dark Dramatic & Moody
In dark, moody interiors — deep charcoal walls, midnight navy panelling, velvet upholstery, and warm candlelit lighting — AC-08’s smoked amber floor glows as the warmest and most luminous element in the room. The amber tone provides visual warmth and grounding against very dark surroundings, while the matte wax oil surface reflects ambient light softly rather than creating glare or shine. The saw mark texture adds a quiet directional quality that reads as sophisticated rather than rustic in a dark setting.
Installation & Room Suitability
Click Installation (Floating)
AC-08 uses Uniclic-compatible click floating installation. The 260mm extra-wide format requires meticulous subfloor preparation — flatness is critical at 260mm board width.

•No adhesive required — click lock floating installation
•Subfloor flatness: 3mm per 2m maximum — critical for 260mm boards
•Expansion gap at all walls: minimum 15mm (wider gap required for 260mm format)
•48-hour acclimatisation at room temperature before installation
•Install perpendicular to room entry for optimal visual effect
Stagger end joints: minimum 400mm between adjacent rows
Underfloor Heating
AC-08 is compatible with both hydronic and electric UFH. Extra-wide 260mm boards and wax oil finish both require careful year-round humidity management.

•Maximum surface temperature: 27°C (hydronic and electric)
•Switch off heating 48 hours before installation
•After installation: increase 1–2°C per day to target temperature
•Maintain indoor humidity 45–60% RH year-round — critical for both 260mm format and wax oil finish
•Wax oil finish is more moisture-sensitive than lacquer — maintain humidity diligently
Thermal resistance 0.15 m²K/W maximum

Notes
Open Plan Living
Excellent
260mm smoked amber oak creates a warm, dramatic floor plane in open-plan spaces. The amber tone and saw mark texture read as richly layered at distance across a large area.
Living Rooms
Excellent
AC-08’s smoked amber is the definitive warm-contemporary living room floor — works with dark, dramatic, and mid-century palettes. Rich tone develops further with successive wax oil treatments.
Bedrooms
Excellent
Warm smoked amber creates a moody, sophisticated bedroom environment. The amber tone and matte wax oil surface are particularly well suited to low-light bedroom conditions.
Home Offices
Very Good
The warm amber tone creates a focused, rich study environment. Wax oil surface compatible with desk chairs — use protective mat under castors.
Hallways
Very Good
Amber tone conceals footprint marks and grit more effectively than pale floors. Wide 260mm boards are visually expansive. Periodic re-oiling important in high-traffic hallways.
Kitchen
Good with care
Wax oil less water-resistant than UV lacquer. Wipe spills immediately. Darker amber tone more forgiving of kitchen marks than pale floors. Seal all joints carefully.
Restaurant / Bar / Hospitality
Very Good
AC-08 is a strong specification for warm hospitality environments: restaurants, bars, boutique hotels. The smoked amber tone and saw mark texture read as sophisticated and characterful in low-light settings.
Retail / Commercial
 Good
Warm amber tone works in mid-century, heritage-influenced, and warm contemporary retail environments. Wax oil maintenance programme required for commercial installations.
Bathrooms
Not Recommended
Not suitable for persistent moisture. Wax oil and smoked finish both vulnerable in wet environments — specify SPC flooring for bathrooms.
Care & Maintenance — Wax Oil on Smoked Saw Mark Surface
Task
Method
Daily
Dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush head — no beater bar. The saw mark striations may collect fine dust in the channels; vacuum along the grain direction for best results. Amber tone is more forgiving of dust than pale floors but regular sweeping is still recommended.
Weekly
Damp mop with well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral wax oil floor cleaner — no standing water. Use only products formulated for wax oil floors; standard cleaners will strip the oil finish. Do not use steam mop.
Spills
Wipe immediately — wax oil is less water-resistant than lacquer; prolonged moisture contact can raise the grain, cause tide marks, or in extreme cases affect the smoked colour. The amber tone conceals minor liquid marks better than pale floors.
Periodic re-oiling
Re-oil every 1–3 years depending on traffic — use the same wax oil product as original factory finish, or a compatible amber-tone maintenance oil. Apply thinly, allow to penetrate 15–20 minutes, buff off excess. Re-oiling deepens and enriches the smoked amber tone over time.
Spot repair
Wax oil floors are spot-repairable: lightly sand the affected area with fine-grit paper along the grain direction, re-oil, and blend into surrounding boards. For smoked floors, note that sanding removes the smoked surface layer — a colour match oil or light re-smoking may be needed for a seamless spot repair.
Saw mark channels
The saw mark striations should be cleaned along their direction (parallel to the striations) rather than across them, to avoid pushing debris into the channels. A soft-bristle vacuum head is more effective than mopping for cleaning the saw mark surface.
Never
Steam mop · standing water · standard household cleaners (bleach, vinegar, all-purpose) · lacquer or polyurethane products · abrasive pads · products containing bleach (will strip the smoked tone) · oil-based furniture polish (different formulation from floor wax oil).

FAQ
Q1. What is smoked amber oak engineered flooring?
Smoked amber oak engineered flooring is a warm golden-tan-to-amber-brown engineered hardwood floor in which the amber colour is produced by ammonia fuming — a process that reacts with the natural tannins in the European oak to permanently darken the wood fibres from the inside out — combined with a saw mark surface texture and wax oil finish.
AMUER AC-08 is 260mm wide, 2,200mm long, 15/4mm total thickness with a 4mm solid European oak wear layer, EF select character grade, saw mark + smoked surface treatments, wax oil finish, and click installation. It is the richest and warmest tone in the AMUER wide plank range — a deep, structural amber colour with directional linear texture and a natural matte wax oil surface.
Q2. How is the smoked colour in AC-08 produced?
The smoked amber colour in AC-08 is produced by ammonia fuming — a process in which the oak boards are placed in a sealed chamber and exposed to ammonia vapour, which reacts chemically with the natural tannins in the wood fibres, causing a permanent oxidation that darkens the wood from the inside out rather than applying colour to the surface.
Because the smoked colour is a tannin-oxidation reaction rather than a surface treatment, it has different properties from stained or pigmented oak: the colour penetrates several millimetres into the wood, has natural variation based on tannin distribution, is structurally stable and will not fade or wear off under normal conditions, and retains the full depth and warmth of the natural wood grain beneath. Ammonia fuming is a traditional technique applied to high-tannin timbers; European oak is the ideal species for this process.
Q3. What is the saw mark surface treatment on AC-08?
The saw mark surface treatment on AC-08 creates fine parallel mechanical striations across the board face by drawing circular saw blades across the smoked oak surface, adding a directional linear texture on top of the smoked amber ground.
In AC-08, the saw mark is applied after smoking, so the striations cut slightly into the smoked surface layer, revealing marginally paler inner fibres along the cut lines — creating a subtle contrast between the deeply smoked ground and the saw mark cuts that adds visual dimension to the amber colour. The saw mark striations run from one board edge to the other across the full 260mm width, making the directional texture a prominent visual feature at wide plank format.
Q4. Does the smoked colour in AC-08 fade over time?
The smoked amber colour in AC-08 is highly stable and does not fade under normal conditions — the tannin-oxidation reaction that produces the amber tone is a permanent structural change to the wood fibres, not a surface stain or applied pigment, and does not fade with UV exposure or normal wear.
Under wax oil, the smoked colour is further protected and nourished at each re-oiling service, and the amber tone typically deepens and enriches with successive oil treatments over the floor’s lifetime. If AC-08 is eventually sanded and refinished, the saw mark surface can be re-applied and the floor can be re-smoked or finished with wax oil in a natural or stained tone — though re-smoking requires specialist equipment and is typically done at a factory rather than on-site.
Q5. Can AC-08 be used over underfloor heating?
Yes — AC-08 engineered hardwood flooring is compatible with both hydronic and electric underfloor heating systems, with a maximum recommended surface temperature of 27°C.
The 3-layer engineered construction resists dimensional movement under heating cycles. Extra-wide 260mm boards and wax oil finish both require careful humidity management — maintain 45–60% RH year-round. Switch off heating 48 hours before installation and restart gradually after installation, increasing by 1–2°C per day. Wax oil is more moisture-sensitive than lacquer; diligent humidity control is especially important for AC-08.
Q6. How do you maintain smoked wax oil oak flooring?
Smoked wax oil oak flooring requires regular dry sweeping, occasional damp mopping with a pH-neutral wax oil floor cleaner, and periodic re-oiling every 1–3 years — never standard household cleaners, bleach, or steam mops, which can strip the wax oil or damage the smoked colour.
Re-oiling AC-08 with a compatible amber-tone maintenance wax oil deepens and enriches the smoked colour at each service. The saw mark channels should be cleaned along their direction with a soft-bristle vacuum head. The amber tone of AC-08 is more forgiving of everyday marks and dust than pale or grey floors. Spot repair is possible: lightly sand, re-oil, and blend — note that sanding the smoked surface may require colour-matching oil for invisible spot repairs.
Q7. Can AC-08 be sanded and refinished?
Yes — AC-08 has a 4mm solid oak wear layer supporting 3–4 full sanding and refinishing cycles over the floor’s lifespan.
After sanding, the smoked amber colour will be significantly reduced or removed, as the smoking penetrates only a few millimetres into the wear layer. The floor can then be re-smoked at a factory or finishing workshop, or finished with wax oil in a natural tone for a lighter result. The saw mark surface can also be re-applied after sanding. Alternatively, after sanding, AC-08 can be refinished with UV lacquer, natural oil, or a pigmented stain — changing the appearance entirely. Professional floor sanding is strongly recommended.
Q8. What is the minimum order for AC-08?
The standard minimum order for AMUER AC-08 is 200 m² per SKU from our China factory.
