Wide Plank Engineered Flooring — AH-01
Dark Charcoal Oak 400mm Extra-Wide Plank Engineered Flooring — AH-02
AH-02 is a 400mm x 4,000mm extra-wide plank engineered oak floor in EF select grade with heavy embossment and dark chemical surface treatment, finished with wax oil — 20/6mm multi-layer construction with an exceptional 6mm solid oak wear layer, tongue-and-groove for glue-down or nail-down installation. AH-02 is the darkest, thickest, and longest-format floor in the AMUER engineered range: 400mm wide boards in deep charcoal-to-espresso black, produced by chemical treatment that darkens the oak tannins to near-black, with a pronounced heavy embossment that raises the grain texture dramatically above the dark ground, finished with wax oil that nourishes the treated fibres and adds the warm, matte depth that separates a wax-oiled dark floor from a flat, painted-looking lacquered one.

400mm — extreme extra-wide plank format; the widest board in the AMUER engineered range
Board Length
3,000mm
Colour
AH-02 Dark Charcoal — deep charcoal-to-espresso black; produced by chemical treatment that darkens the natural tannins of the European oak to near-black; the darkening reaction penetrates the wood fibres rather than sitting on the surface; warm amber undertones of the original oak remain visible as highlights through the dark chemical ground, preventing the colour from reading as flat or painted; wax oil adds warmth and depth to the dark tone
Surface Treatment
Embossment + Chemical Treatment — two treatments in sequence: (1) Chemical Treatment: acid or alkali solution applied to raw oak to darken the tannins to deep charcoal-espresso; (2) Embossment: heavy press rollers applied under heat and pressure to create a pronounced, deep relief texture following the natural grain structure; the heavy embossment on AH-02 is significantly deeper than on AH-01 — the raised grain and valley depth create strong visual contrast between highlighted peaks and shadowed channels
Finish
Wax Oil — penetrating plant-based wax oil; feeds and nourishes the chemically darkened wood fibres; preserves the dark tone with warmth and depth; produces a natural matte surface that prevents the dark colour from reading as flat or lacquered; requires periodic maintenance re-oiling; the wax oil is what gives AH-02 its distinctive warm-black rather than cold-black appearance
Grading
EF — Select-to-Natural Character Grade: limited character features; occasional small knots; uniform clean grain; the EF grade on AH-02 allows the deep charcoal colour and heavy embossment texture to dominate the visual expression without competition from knot or grain drama; the clean grain shows the embossed texture at maximum clarity
Installation
Tongue & Groove (T&G) — glue-down with flexible polyurethane adhesive to concrete/screed subfloor, or secret nail-fix to timber subfloor; NOT click floating; specialist installation required; at 400mm x 4,000mm, AH-02 boards require precise handling and a particularly flat, stable, and dry subfloor
Underfloor Heating
Compatible with caution — maximum surface temperature 27°C; 400mm extreme-wide format requires strict humidity control 45–55% RH year-round; wax oil finish requires humidity management; glue-down installation mandatory with UFH; specialist installer with wide-plank UFH experience required

PRODUCT OVERVIEW · AH-02 DARK CHARCOAL OAK
AH-01 is in a different category from every other product in the AMUER engineered range. At 400mm wide and 3,000mm long, each board is not a plank but a panel — a wide, character-saturated surface of European oak that dominates any room it occupies. The DE grade specification means each board carries the most extreme character features available in engineered oak: prominent open and filled knots, long grain shakes filled with contrasting dark filler, swirling cross-grain patterns, bold colour variation across the 400mm face. AH-01 does not add visual interest through colour or surface texture treatments alone — the material itself is the design statement.

The chemical treatment applied to AH-01's raw oak surface produces the characteristic sandy antiqued tone: an acid or alkali solution is applied across the full board face, reacting with the wood fibres to bleach, tone, and lightly age the oak to a warm sandy-cream colour that reads as if the floor has been in use for decades. This is not a stain or pigment — it is a chemical reaction with the wood fibres themselves, producing a colour with the natural variation and depth of an aged surface rather than the flatness of an applied toner. The DE grade colour variation in the oak — from pale cream heartwood to warmer honey sapwood — remains visible beneath and through the chemical treatment, giving each 400mm board a complex, multi-toned face.

Embossment is applied to the chemically treated surface, pressing a relief texture into the oak face under heat and pressure. The embossment follows and accentuates the natural grain structure of the wood — it is not an arbitrary texture, but a deepening and emphasising of the grain lines, ray flecks, and surface topography already present in the oak. The result is a surface with both visual and tactile depth: the grain reads more prominently than on a flat-sanded board, the chemical treatment colour shows differently in the raised and recessed areas, and the overall impression is of a floor that has been worked by hand and time rather than produced by a machine process.

The multi-layer engineered core is specified for AH-01 precisely because of the 400mm board width. At 400mm, the potential for dimensional movement across the board face under changes in humidity and temperature is significantly greater than at 190mm or 260mm. The multi-layer cross-ply core — with a greater number of bonded veneer layers than the 3-layer construction used in the rest of the AMUER range — provides the additional stability required to maintain board geometry at this extreme width. Tongue-and-groove installation with glue-down adhesive further restrains the board against movement, which is why AH-01 is specified as T&G glue-down rather than click floating.

EF grade is the appropriate grading specification for AH-02 for the same reason it works on AC-08: the dark chemical treatment and heavy embossment are both strong visual statements, and the clean grain of EF grade allows both to read at full impact without competing knots or grain drama. On a very dark floor, DE grade knots filled with dark filler would be invisible; CD grade character features would add visual noise without adding visual value. EF grade’s uniform grain shows the embossed texture most clearly and allows the warm-amber undertone highlights to read across a consistent dark ground.
Design Guide
AH-02’s deep charcoal tone, heavy embossed texture, and extreme scale make it one of the most powerful design tools in the flooring category. Two contexts where it reaches its full potential:
Heritage Luxury AH-01
Light-on-Dark Contrast
The most powerful use of AH-02 is in interiors built around maximum light-dark contrast: crisp white painted walls, pale Calacatta or Carrara marble, warm cream linen, and brushed brass fittings against the deep charcoal floor. The floor reads as a dark anchoring plane from which the white and pale materials above float upward. The heavy embossment texture prevents the dark floor from absorbing too much light — the raised peaks catch and reflect ambient light, keeping the floor visually alive rather than a flat dark void.
High-End Reclaimed Replacement AH-01
Tonal Dark Monochrome
For the most confident dark monochrome interiors — charcoal or deep slate walls, dark steel frames, ebonised oak joinery, and dark velvet upholstery — AH-02 creates a continuous dark material ground across the floor that anchors every other element. In tonal dark interiors, the heavy embossment of AH-02 becomes the primary visual differentiator of the floor from the walls and other dark surfaces: the micro-shadow texture of the embossed grain at 400mm scale adds a material richness that a flat dark floor cannot provide.
Installation & Room Suitability
Glue-Down Installation (Concrete / Screed)
At 400mm x 4,000mm, each AH-02 board covers 1.6 m². Handling and positioning require two installers per board. Adhesive pot-life management is critical at this board size.

•Subfloor flatness: 2mm per 2m maximum — the strictest requirement in the AMUER range
•Concrete / screed moisture content: ≤3% (test with CM method before installation)
•Fully dry, primed, clean, and structurally sound subfloor mandatory
•Flexible polyurethane adhesive: full trowel application — no spot bonding at this board size
•Two installers required per board for handling and positioning
•Allow minimum 24 hours adhesive cure before foot traffic (48 hours recommended)
•Expansion gap at all fixed walls and vertical obstructions: minimum 15mm
•72-hour acclimatisation in the installation room before laying
Professional specialist installer required — not suitable for DIY
Secret Nail Installation (Timber Subfloor)
Secret nail through the T&G profile. At 20mm thickness and 400mm width, AH-02 boards are heavy — two installers required for handling.

•Timber subfloor or batten system: fully dry, flat, and structurally sound
•Moisture content of timber subfloor: ≤10%
•Joist or batten centres: maximum 300mm
•Secret nail at every joist or batten; nail spacing along board: maximum 300mm
•Subfloor flatness: 2mm per 2m
•Expansion gap at all walls: minimum 15mm
•72-hour acclimatisation before installation
•Combination of adhesive and secret nail recommended at this board width for maximum restraint
Professional specialist installer required
Underfloor Heating with AH-02 — Important Notes
•Maximum surface temperature: 27°C — must not be exceeded
•Indoor humidity: maintain 45–55% RH year-round — tighter range due to 400mm board width
•Wax oil finish is more moisture-sensitive than UV oil or UV lacquer — humidity control is double-critical for AH-02
•Glue-down installation only with UFH — do not use secret nail as sole fixing
•Switch off heating 72 hours before installation
•After installation: increase temperature maximum 1°C per day
•Thermal resistance of adhesive included in total calculation; max total 0.15 m²K/W
Specialist installer with wide-plank wax oil UFH experience is mandatory for AH-02 with underfloor heating

Notes
Luxury Open Plan Living
Exceptional
400mm dark charcoal boards at 4,000mm length create a dramatically bold floor surface in open-plan spaces. Against white or pale walls and ceilings, the dark floor creates the maximum light-contrast interior.
Grand Entrance Halls
Exceptional
AH-02 is a definitive entrance hall floor for luxury and contemporary properties. The scale, darkness, and heavy embossment texture create an immediate and lasting first impression.
Primary Bedrooms & Suites
Exceptional
The dark charcoal tone and matte wax oil surface create a sophisticated, enveloping bedroom environment. Against pale linen, warm cream, and brushed brass, the dark floor reads as deeply luxurious.
Luxury Residential
Excellent
AH-02 is a tier-one floor specification for luxury residential projects where the floor is the primary material decision. The 20/6mm specification signals investment-grade material quality.
Boutique Hotels — Rooms & Suites
Excellent
Dark charcoal wax oil oak in a premium suite creates a sense of depth and luxury appropriate to five-star hospitality. Wax oil maintenance programme must be factored into the housekeeping schedule.
High-End Retail & Showrooms
Very Good
The dark bold floor creates an authoritative, luxury-brand environment. Wide 400mm boards with minimal joints reduce visual clutter in product display contexts.
Small Rooms
Not Recommended
400mm boards in rooms under 8m² will overpower the space; the dark colour will further reduce the apparent volume of a small room. Consider AM-19 or AM-16 for smaller spaces.
Kitchen
With caution
Wax oil less water-resistant than UV oil or UV lacquer. The dark colour conceals marks well, but the wax oil surface requires prompt spill management. Strictly dry kitchens only.
Bathrooms
Not Recommended
Not suitable for wet environments — specify SPC flooring for bathrooms.
Care & Maintenance — Wax Oil on Dark Charcoal Embossed Surface
Task
Method
Daily
Dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush head along the grain direction — the deep embossed channels collect dust and grit that abrade the wax oil surface if not removed. Note: fine dust and light-coloured grit are highly visible on the dark charcoal surface; regular sweeping is essential for appearance maintenance.
Weekly
Damp mop with well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral wax oil floor cleaner only — no standing water, no steam mop, no standard household cleaners. For dark wax oil floors, use a colourless wax oil floor cleaner; some maintenance products leave white residue that is very visible on dark surfaces — test in an inconspicuous area first.
Spills
Wipe immediately. On dark floors, liquid marks (especially hard water) can leave light-coloured calcium deposits when dried — wipe before drying. Wax oil is less water-resistant than lacquer; the deep embossed channels can accumulate moisture if spills are not cleared promptly.
Periodic maintenance oil
Re-oil with dark or neutral wax oil maintenance product every 1–3 years depending on traffic. Use a product matched to the AH-02 dark charcoal tone — a clear or warm-tone maintenance oil will lighten the colour slightly; a dark-matched oil maintains colour depth. Apply thinly and buff off excess from embossed peaks promptly to avoid build-up in channels.
White marks
Light foot marks, fine scratches, and minor white marks on dark wax oil floors can often be buffed out with a very slightly dampened cloth and a small amount of compatible dark maintenance oil. For more significant white marks from water or calcium, use a specialist dark floor restorer.
Embossed surface
acuum along the grain direction with a soft brush attachment to clear debris from the deep embossed valleys. Do not use abrasive brushes or stiff-bristle tools that may lighten the dark colour in the raised grain peaks.
Never
Steam mop · standing water · bleach or acid-based cleaners (will strip dark colour) · standard household cleaners · UV lacquer products (incompatible) · light or unmatched maintenance oils (will change colour tone) · abrasive pads · white cleaning pads (will leave visible residue on dark surface).

FAQ
Q1. What is dark charcoal oak extra-wide plank engineered flooring?
Dark charcoal oak extra-wide plank engineered flooring is a 400mm-wide engineered hardwood floor with a deep charcoal-to-espresso-black tone produced by chemical treatment of the oak tannins, combined with a pronounced heavy embossment texture and a penetrating wax oil finish, on a 20/6mm multi-layer core with a 4,000mm board length.
AMUER AH-02 is the darkest, thickest, and longest-format floor in the AMUER engineered range: 400mm wide, 4,000mm long, 20mm total thickness with a 6mm solid European oak wear layer, EF grade, heavy embossment and dark chemical treatment, wax oil finish, and tongue-and-groove glue-down or secret nail installation. It is a tier-one luxury specification for grand entrance halls, open-plan living, and premium residential and hospitality projects.
Q2. Why does AH-02 have a 6mm wear layer when most engineered floors have 2–3mm?
AH-02 has a 6mm solid oak wear layer because at 400mm extra-wide plank format with glue-down T&G installation, the floor represents a major, long-term material investment — the 6mm wear layer supports 5–6 full sanding and refinishing cycles, projecting a service life of 60–80+ years from a single installation.
At 6mm, AH-02’s wear layer approaches the refinishing longevity of solid hardwood while retaining all the dimensional stability advantages of the multi-layer engineered core construction. This is the correct specification for a buyer who is installing a floor once and expects it to outlast the building’s next major renovation cycle. The 6mm wear layer also means that each refinishing cycle (approximately 0.8–1.0mm removed per sand) preserves more wear layer for the next cycle than a standard 3mm floor.
Q3. Is dark charcoal wax oil oak flooring high maintenance?
Dark charcoal wax oil oak flooring requires more visible maintenance care than pale or mid-tone floors because fine dust, white footprints, and light-coloured marks are more visible on a very dark surface — but the maintenance tasks themselves (sweeping, damp mopping with wax oil cleaner, periodic re-oiling) are not more labour-intensive than any other wax oil floor.
The key maintenance differences on AH-02’s dark surface are: (1) regular dry sweeping is especially important as light dust is very visible; (2) hard water marks and calcium deposits from dried liquid show as light marks on the dark surface — wipe spills before they dry; (3) re-oiling should use a dark-matched maintenance oil to maintain colour depth. The wax oil finish requires periodic re-oiling every 1–3 years; the frequency depends on traffic. The deep embossed channels should be vacuumed along the grain direction.
Q4. Why does AH-02 look warm black rather than flat black?
AH-02 looks warm black rather than flat black because the chemical treatment darkens the oak tannins while the original warm amber of the European oak remains as an undertone beneath the dark ground, preserved and enriched by the penetrating wax oil finish.
The chemical darkening reaction does not completely neutralise the original wood colour — it overlays it with darkness while the natural amber of the oak persists as warm highlights, most visible in the raised peaks of the heavy embossment where the treatment is thinnest and the wood grain most exposed. Wax oil enhances these warm highlights further by feeding and nourishing the wood fibres with warm-toned natural oils and waxes. UV lacquer on the same chemical treatment would produce a cooler, flatter dark; wax oil is what gives AH-02 its characteristic warm espresso-black quality.
Q5.  Can AH-02 be used over underfloor heating?
Yes — AH-02 is compatible with underfloor heating, but requires stricter conditions than any other AMUER product: maximum surface temperature 27°C, indoor humidity maintained at 45–55% RH year-round, glue-down installation only, and a specialist installer with specific wide-plank wax oil UFH experience.
The 400mm board width and wax oil finish both require very tight humidity control under UFH conditions. The multi-layer core provides maximum stability, but at 400mm width the potential cross-board movement under humidity cycling is still significant if conditions are not maintained. Switch off heating 72 hours before installation (longer than standard). After installation, increase temperature by no more than 1°C per day. Specialist installer is mandatory.
Q6. What is the difference between AH-02 and AH-01?
AH-02 is dark charcoal espresso-black with heavy embossment, 6mm wear layer, 4,000mm boards, EF grade, and wax oil finish; AH-01 is antique sandy-tan with moderate embossment, 4mm wear layer, 3,000mm boards, DE grade, and UV oil finish — the same 400mm extra-wide T&G format applied to opposite aesthetic outcomes.
AH-02 is the contemporary luxury dark floor specification — maximum contrast, maximum drama, maximum longevity. AH-01 is the heritage luxury warm floor specification — antique character, reclaimed aesthetic, high-character grade. Both are 400mm multi-layer T&G. The choice between them is fundamentally an aesthetic one: dark dramatic contemporary, or warm antiqued heritage.
Q7. Can AH-02 be sanded to change the colour?
Yes — AH-02’s 6mm wear layer supports 5–6 full sanding cycles; sanding will remove the chemical treatment colour, exposing the lighter natural oak beneath, which can then be refinished in any colour or finish.
Sanding AH-02 will progressively remove the dark chemical treatment colour from the top down, revealing progressively lighter and warmer natural oak as more material is removed. After sanding, the floor can be re-treated with dark chemical treatment to restore the original colour, or finished in any alternative — wax oil natural, UV lacquer, smoked, white oil, or other chemical treatments. The 6mm wear layer means AH-02 has more refinishing potential than virtually any other engineered floor in the market. Full refinishing should be carried out by a professional.
Q8.What is the minimum order for AH-02?
The standard minimum order for AMUER AH-02 is 200 m² per SKU from our China factory.
