Wide Plank Engineered Flooring — AH-01
400mm Antique Character Oak Extra-Wide Plank Engineered Flooring — AH-01
AH-01 is a 400mm extra-wide plank engineered oak floor in DE high-character grade with embossment and chemical surface treatments, finished with UV oil — 19/4mm multi-layer construction with a 4mm solid oak wear layer, tongue-and-groove profile for glue-down or nail-down installation. At 400mm, AH-01 is the widest plank in the AMUER engineered range: a floor of extraordinary visual scale and material drama, carrying the full character of DE grade European oak — prominent knots, long grain shakes filled with dark filler, deep swirling grain, bold colour variation — brought to life by a chemical surface treatment that produces a warm sandy antiqued tone, an embossed texture that follows the natural grain relief, and a penetrating UV oil finish that nourishes and preserves the open character surface.

Colour
AH-01 Antique Sandy — warm sandy-tan with antiqued depth; produced by chemical surface treatment that bleaches and tones the oak surface to a pale, aged-looking warm cream-to-tan; the DE grade colour variation — from pale cream heartwood to warm honey sapwood — reads across the 400mm face; filled knots and shakes in dark filler provide bold contrast against the sandy ground
Surface Treatment
Embossment + Chemical Treatment — two sequential surface treatments: (1) Chemical Treatment: acid or alkali solution applied to the raw oak surface to bleach, tone, and age the wood fibres to the sandy antiqued colour; (2) Embossment: press rollers or textured pads applied under heat and pressure to create a relief texture that follows and accentuates the natural grain structure of the oak; both treatments enhance the antique, aged aesthetic of the DE grade character
Finish
UV Oil — UV-cured penetrating oil; feeds and nourishes the treated wood fibres; preserves the chemical treatment colour; provides more moisture protection than natural oil while retaining the open, natural look and feel of an oil finish; easier maintenance than standard penetrating oil; does not require the same frequency of re-oiling as wax oil
Grading
DE — High Natural Character Grade: prominent open and filled knots (large and frequent); long grain shakes filled with dark or coloured filler; bold grain drama with flowing, swirling, and cross-grain patterns; significant colour variation across board face; the most characterful and visually dramatic grade in the AMUER range; all defects structurally stable and factory-filled
Installation
Click floating (Uniclic-compatible) — no adhesive; suitable for concrete screed, existing tiles, timber subfloor
Underfloor Heating
Compatible with caution — maximum surface temperature 27°C; the 400mm extreme-wide format is the most demanding for UFH movement management; strict humidity control 45–55% RH year-round mandatory; consult specialist installer before specifying with UFH

PRODUCT OVERVIEW · AH-01 ANTIQUE CHARACTER OAK
AH-01 is in a different category from every other product in the AMUER engineered range. At 400mm wide and 3,000mm long, each board is not a plank but a panel — a wide, character-saturated surface of European oak that dominates any room it occupies. The DE grade specification means each board carries the most extreme character features available in engineered oak: prominent open and filled knots, long grain shakes filled with contrasting dark filler, swirling cross-grain patterns, bold colour variation across the 400mm face. AH-01 does not add visual interest through colour or surface texture treatments alone — the material itself is the design statement.

The chemical treatment applied to AH-01's raw oak surface produces the characteristic sandy antiqued tone: an acid or alkali solution is applied across the full board face, reacting with the wood fibres to bleach, tone, and lightly age the oak to a warm sandy-cream colour that reads as if the floor has been in use for decades. This is not a stain or pigment — it is a chemical reaction with the wood fibres themselves, producing a colour with the natural variation and depth of an aged surface rather than the flatness of an applied toner. The DE grade colour variation in the oak — from pale cream heartwood to warmer honey sapwood — remains visible beneath and through the chemical treatment, giving each 400mm board a complex, multi-toned face.

Embossment is applied to the chemically treated surface, pressing a relief texture into the oak face under heat and pressure. The embossment follows and accentuates the natural grain structure of the wood — it is not an arbitrary texture, but a deepening and emphasising of the grain lines, ray flecks, and surface topography already present in the oak. The result is a surface with both visual and tactile depth: the grain reads more prominently than on a flat-sanded board, the chemical treatment colour shows differently in the raised and recessed areas, and the overall impression is of a floor that has been worked by hand and time rather than produced by a machine process.

The multi-layer engineered core is specified for AH-01 precisely because of the 400mm board width. At 400mm, the potential for dimensional movement across the board face under changes in humidity and temperature is significantly greater than at 190mm or 260mm. The multi-layer cross-ply core — with a greater number of bonded veneer layers than the 3-layer construction used in the rest of the AMUER range — provides the additional stability required to maintain board geometry at this extreme width. Tongue-and-groove installation with glue-down adhesive further restrains the board against movement, which is why AH-01 is specified as T&G glue-down rather than click floating.
Design Guide
AH-01 is not a neutral floor. The 400mm width, DE grade character, and antique sandy tone position it as a statement material that shapes the design of any room it occupies. Two contexts where it is the supreme specification:
Heritage Luxury AH-01
Heritage Luxury
In grand heritage and luxury interiors — panelled rooms, vaulted halls, manor libraries — AH-01’s 400mm antique character boards create the kind of floor that anchors every other material decision in the room. Against dark walnut panelling, aged stone chimneypieces, antique bronze lighting, and deep-pile Persian rugs, the antique sandy oak reads as a material of genuine pedigree and age — not a new product designed to look old, but a specification chosen for its material authenticity.
High-End Reclaimed Replacement AH-01
High-End Reclaimed Replacement
AH-01 is the specification for projects where authentic reclaimed wide-plank oak has been specified but the practical requirements of the project — subfloor type, UFH system, structural movement, supply consistency, or sustainability certification — make genuine reclaimed oak impractical. The DE grade character, antique chemical treatment, embossed texture, and 400mm width of AH-01 achieve the aesthetic of a reclaimed floor with the technical performance, certification, and supply reliability of a manufactured product.
Installation & Room Suitability
Glue-Down Installation (Concrete / Screed)
•Subfloor flatness: 2mm per 2m maximum — stricter than floating installation
•Moisture content of concrete subfloor: ≤3% — test before installation
•Fully clean, dry, primed concrete or screed subfloor required
•Use flexible polyurethane floor adhesive — must accommodate minor wood movement
•Full trowel application of adhesive: no spot bonding
•Allow minimum 24 hours adhesive cure before foot traffic
•Expansion gap at all fixed walls: minimum 15mm
•72-hour acclimatisation in the room at installation temperature and humidity before laying
Professional specialist installer required — not suitable for DIY installation
Secret Nail Installation (Timber Subfloor)
•Timber subfloor or batten system: fully dry, flat, and structurally sound
•Moisture content of timber subfloor: ≤10%
•Secret nail through T&G profile at 45° angle; nail at every joist or batten
•Subfloor flatness: 2mm per 2m
•Expansion gap at all walls: minimum 15mm
•72-hour acclimatisation before installation
•Nail spacing: maximum 300mm along board length
•Can be combined with adhesive on movement-critical installations
Professional specialist installer required
Underfloor Heating with AH-01 — Important Notes
AH-01 is compatible with underfloor heating, but the 400mm board width makes this the most demanding UFH specification in the AMUER range. At 400mm, the potential for movement across the board under humidity and temperature cycling is significantly greater than at narrower widths.

•Maximum surface temperature: 27°C — must not be exceeded
•Indoor humidity: maintain 45–55% RH year-round — tighter range than standard (45–60%) due to board width
•Switch off heating 72 hours before installation (longer than standard boards)
•After installation: increase temperature by maximum 1°C per day
•Use glue-down installation only with UFH — do not use secret nail as sole fixing with UFH
•Thermal resistance of adhesive must be included in total calculation; max total 0.15 m²K/W
•Pre-commission UFH system and confirm flatness and dryness before installation
Specialist installer with specific wide-plank UFH experience is mandatory

Notes
Grand Entrance Halls
Exceptional
AH-01 is the specification for statement entrance halls in luxury and heritage properties. The 400mm boards and DE grade drama create a floor that makes an immediate and lasting impression.
Large Open Plan Living
Exceptional
The 400mm x 3,000mm boards create a near-continuous plane of wood across large open plan spaces. Only a handful of boards needed to span a 3m room width — the fewest joint lines of any AMUER product.
Heritage & Listed Properties
Exceptional
AH-01’s antique sandy tone and DE grade character read as entirely appropriate to historic buildings where wide-plank oak floors are part of the architectural heritage.
Luxury Residential
Excellent
For high-specification residential projects where the floor is a primary material decision. The scale, character, and surface treatment of AH-01 place it at the luxury specification tier.
Country Houses & Estates
Excellent
Wide, character-rich, antiqued oak is the traditional floor material for country houses and estates. AH-01 at 400mm replicates the appearance of original wide-plank estate floors.
Boutique Hotels & Suites
Very Good
Premium hospitality floors — the antique character and dramatic appearance of AH-01 create a sense of place and history appropriate to boutique and heritage hotel properties.
Small Rooms
With caution
At 400mm wide, each board spans nearly half a standard 900mm corridor. In rooms under 6m², the board scale may overwhelm the space. Consider narrower products for small rooms.
Kitchen
With caution
UV oil provides better moisture protection than standard oil but is still less resistant than lacquer. The 400mm width and glue-down installation demand strict moisture management. Appropriate for dry, well-ventilated kitchens only.
Bathrooms
Not Recommended
Not suitable for wet environments. The 400mm board width makes moisture movement particularly significant — specify SPC flooring for bathrooms.
Care & Maintenance — UV Oil on Embossed Character Surface
Task
Method
Daily
Dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush head along the grain direction — the embossed grain channels and DE grade knot and shake features can collect grit; remove regularly to prevent abrasion of the UV oil surface. No beater bar.
Weekly
Damp mop with well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral UV oil floor cleaner — no standing water. UV oil floors use different maintenance products from wax oil floors; use a cleaner specifically formulated for UV-cured oil finishes. Do not use steam mop.
Spills
Wipe immediately — UV oil is more water-resistant than standard oil but prolonged moisture contact risks staining, especially into the DE grade filled knots and shake features. The sandy antiqued colour may show water marks if left.
Periodic maintenance oil
Apply UV oil maintenance product every 2–5 years depending on traffic — less frequently than standard oil due to the UV-cured hardness of the factory finish. Use product recommended by AMUER or compatible UV oil maintenance product. Apply thinly and buff off excess.
Filled features
The factory-filled knots and shake features in DE grade boards are filled with resin at production. Do not attempt to clean filled features with abrasive tools or chemicals. Minor resin discolouration can be addressed with specific resin cleaner.
Embossed surface
The embossed grain channels should be vacuumed along the grain direction with a soft brush attachment. The embossment is a permanent physical impression and does not require special cleaning beyond the normal maintenance routine.
Never
Steam mop · standing water · wax-based products (incompatible with UV oil cure) · standard household cleaners · bleach or acid-based cleaners (will affect the chemical treatment colour) · abrasive pads or scourers · re-oiling with standard penetrating wax oil (incompatible with UV-cured finish).

FAQ
Q1. What is 400mm extra-wide plank antique character oak engineered flooring?
400mm extra-wide plank antique character oak engineered flooring is a 400mm wide engineered hardwood floor in DE high-character grade with chemical surface treatment and embossment producing an antiqued sandy tone, finished with UV oil — the widest and most characterful specification in the AMUER engineered range.
AMUER AH-01 is 400mm wide, 3,000mm long, 19/4mm total thickness with a 4mm solid European oak wear layer, multi-layer core construction, DE natural character grade, embossment and chemical treatment surface, UV oil finish, and tongue-and-groove installation (glue-down or secret nail). It is the premium statement floor in the AMUER range — designed for grand entrance halls, luxury residential, and heritage property applications.
Q2. What is chemical surface treatment on oak flooring?
Chemical surface treatment on oak flooring applies an acid or alkali solution to the raw oak surface, which reacts with the wood fibres to bleach, tone, and age the wood to a warm sandy antiqued colour — a chemical reaction with the wood fibres themselves rather than a stain or pigment applied on top.
In AH-01, the chemical treatment produces the characteristic sandy-tan antiqued ground colour that reads as warm, aged, and naturally varied across the 400mm board face. The treatment respects the DE grade colour variation in the oak — from pale cream heartwood to honey sapwood — toning and unifying the extreme character while preserving the natural variation beneath. The reaction-based colour is stable and does not fade under UV oil protection.
Q3. What is embossment on oak flooring?
Embossment on oak flooring applies a textured press roller or pad to the board face under heat and pressure, physically impressing a relief pattern that follows and accentuates the natural grain structure of the oak, creating a surface with greater visual and tactile depth than a flat-sanded board.
In AH-01, the embossment deepens and accentuates the grain lines, ray flecks, and natural surface topography of the chemically treated DE grade oak, creating micro-shadows in raking light and a slightly raised grain texture detectable underfoot and by touch. The combination of chemical treatment and embossment is what gives AH-01 its distinctive antique appearance — the colour of aged wood, with the texture of worked and worn wood.
Q4. Why is AH-01 tongue-and-groove and not click floating?
AH-01 uses tongue-and-groove installation rather than click-lock floating because at 400mm board width, the potential for cross-board movement under humidity changes is too great for click joints to manage reliably — glue-down or secret nail installation provides the full-restraint fixing required for stable 400mm wide plank performance.
Click-lock systems are designed for boards up to approximately 260–300mm in most conditions; at 400mm, the force exerted across the board under humidity cycling would stress click joints beyond their design limits, risking joint failure and board lifting over time. Glue-down installation bonds the full underside of each 400mm board to the subfloor, providing the restraint that eliminates this risk. This is the correct engineering specification for this board width, not a compromise.
Q5. What is DE grade European oak flooring?
DE grade European oak flooring is the highest character specification in the AMUER grading system, featuring prominent and frequent open and filled knots, long grain shakes filled with dark resin filler, bold swirling and cross-grain patterns, and significant colour variation across the board face.
In AH-01, the DE grade character is the primary visual design element of the floor: the prominent knots (both open-filled and dead-filled), the dramatic long shakes with contrasting dark filler, and the swirling grain drama across the 400mm face create a floor of exceptional visual richness. All character features are structurally stable — knots and shakes are factory-filled with resin at production; the grade describes the visual character, not any structural limitation.
Q6. Can AH-01 be used over underfloor heating?
Yes — AH-01 is compatible with underfloor heating, but the 400mm board width requires stricter humidity control (45–55% RH year-round) and longer pre-installation heating shutdown (72 hours) than narrower boards, and glue-down installation is mandatory when combining AH-01 with UFH.
Maximum surface temperature is 27°C. The multi-layer core provides greater stability than 3-layer construction at this extreme width, but the width still demands careful UFH management. Temperature must be increased by no more than 1°C per day after installation. A specialist installer with specific experience in wide-plank glue-down UFH installation is mandatory for AH-01 with underfloor heating.
Q7. Can AH-01 be sanded and refinished?
Yes — AH-01 has a 4mm solid oak wear layer supporting 3–4 full sanding and refinishing cycles over the floor’s lifespan.
Sanding AH-01 will remove the chemical treatment colour and embossment texture — both treatments are surface-level and will not survive a full sanding cycle. After sanding, the floor can be re-treated with chemical treatment and re-embossed at a factory or specialist finishing workshop to restore the original appearance, or finished in a different tone with UV oil, wax oil, or UV lacquer. Full refinishing of a 400mm glue-down floor is a significant professional operation.
Q8. What is the minimum order for AH-01?
The standard minimum order for AMUER AH-01 is 200 m² per SKU from our China factory.
