Brushed oak flooring uses wire brushing — an abrasive process — to remove soft early-wood fibres and reveal the harder late-wood grain as a raised texture; embossed oak flooring uses mechanical pressure to press structured relief directly into the board face, creating a more consistent and controllable texture depth. In practical terms: brushed oak has an organic, variable texture that follows the natural grain variation of each board. Embossed oak has a more precise, consistent relief pattern that is uniform board to board — the grain structure is imposed rather than revealed. AH-08 combines embossment with chemical treatment, giving it both structural texture consistency and natural colour complexity.

Chemical treatment is a surface process that reacts with the natural compounds in oak — tannins, cellulose, lignin — to open the grain pores, alter the surface oxidation state, and introduce controlled tonal variation across the board face. It is not a stain: the colour variation is developed from within the wood structure by chemical reaction, not by depositing colour on top of the surface. In AH-08, chemical treatment creates subtle tonal depth — the early-wood zones read at a slightly different tone from the late-wood ridges — and makes the grain structure more vivid and legible across the board face.

Wax oil is used on AH-08 because a UV lacquer surface film would partially fill the embossed channels, reducing the shadow depth and three-dimensional relief that the embossment process creates — wax oil penetrates the wood fibre without forming a surface film, leaving every embossed channel and ridge completely open and unobstructed. The embossed and chemically treated surface of AH-08 is the product's defining characteristic. Applying UV lacquer over it would preserve the surface but diminish the very texture depth that distinguishes AH-08. Wax oil on embossed chemically treated oak is the combination that fully honours the process: the oil deepens the sandy-gold tone, enriches the chemical treatment character, and fills the embossed channels from within while leaving them completely tactile.

Yes — AH-08 is compatible with both hydronic and electric underfloor heating, maximum surface temperature 27°C. Wax oil handles UFH thermal cycling well and does not crack under heat stress. The embossed open-grain surface absorbs wax oil particularly well during periodic re-oiling. Maintain indoor humidity at 40–65% RH year-round.

Wax oil on AH-08 requires periodic full re-oiling every 1–3 years, frequent vacuuming (the embossed channels collect dust more readily than shallow-brush or smooth floors), weekly damp mopping with pH-neutral wood cleaner, and immediate spill wiping. The embossed channels are more absorbent than a smooth surface — prompt spill wiping is especially important. Spot repair is straightforward on AH-08: abrade the worn area with 240-grit paper along the grain and re-apply wax oil locally; the texture variation means local repairs blend naturally. Full re-oiling is particularly effective on embossed surfaces as the oil penetrates the full channel depth.

Yes — AH-08 has a 4mm solid oak wear layer supporting 3–4 full sanding and refinishing cycles over the floor's lifespan. After sanding, AH-08 can be re-embossed at the correct depth to restore the relief texture, re-chemically treated to restore the tonal character, and re-finished with wax oil to restore the full specification. The re-embossment and re-treatment steps require specialist equipment — this should be discussed with the refinishing specialist before work starts.
