Smoked Oak at Maximum Width -- AC-09 at 260mm
AC-09 is AMUER's largest-format smoked oak floor — a 260mm wide, 2,200mm long engineered plank with a brushed and smoked surface finished in UV lacquer. The smoked colour is produced by ammonia fuming: boards are sealed in a chamber where ammonia vapour reacts with the oak's natural tannins, creating a permanent colour change that runs through the full depth of the wear layer rather than sitting as a surface stain. Wire brushing opens the grain before or during fuming, allowing the ammonia to penetrate more deeply into the exposed early-wood channels and producing a characteristic tonal richness — darker in the open grain, slightly lighter on the raised late-wood ridges — that gives the surface its depth under light.
At 260mm, AC-09 is the widest board in the AMUER smoked range, and the format matters. Across 260mm of fumed oak, the full flame and oval grain figures of European oak develop as they would on a solid plank, with the tonal sweep from edge to edge fully visible. In a standard 3m room, 260mm boards produce as few as 11 joint lines against roughly 15 for a 190mm floor, creating a surface that reads as near-continuous — the defining quality of the extra-wide plank format, here combined with the warmth and depth of a properly smoked timber.
Design Guide
AC-09's smoked tobacco-amber tone and 260mm extra-wide plank format give it a specific design gravity -- it anchors a room with warmth, depth, and a sense of permanence. Three interior contexts where AC-09 performs best:

Warm Heritage Contemporary
AC-09's smoked depth and 260mm width create a generous, warm foundation for transitional interiors that blend heritage references with contemporary furniture. Against warm white walls, the smoked amber boards glow; aged oak or walnut furniture picks up the tobacco tones; linen and velvet textiles provide the softness and contrast. The extra-wide boards signal premium quality without ostentation.

Dark Dramatic Interior
In a dark, dramatic interior -- deep navy walls, forest green panelling, dark velvet upholstery, and warm brass hardware -- AC-09 provides the warm timber grounding that prevents the scheme from feeling cold. The smoked amber tone bridges the warm and dark registers of the palette; the 260mm wide boards read as a continuous warm plane beneath the dark furnishings. Particularly effective in dining rooms and studies.
Installation & Room Suitability
Click Installation (Floating)
AC-09 uses Uniclic-compatible click floating installation. At 260mm extra-wide, subfloor preparation is critical -- any unevenness is amplified across the wider board.
•No adhesive required -- click lock floating installation
•Subfloor flatness: 3mm per 2m maximum -- critical for 260mm boards; level carefully
•Expansion gap at all walls: minimum 15mm (wider gap for 260mm format)
•48-hour acclimatisation at room temperature before installation
•Install perpendicular to room entry for best appearance
•Stagger end joints: minimum 400mm between adjacent rows
Pre-fitted foam or combination underlay recommended
Underfloor Heating
AC-09 is compatible with both hydronic and electric UFH. Extra-wide 260mm boards require careful humidity management -- wider boards have more potential for edge movement under humidity fluctuation.
✓Maximum surface temperature: 27 degrees C
✓Switch off heating 48 hours before installation
✓Restart gradually: increase 1-2 degrees C per day to operating temperature
✓Maintain indoor humidity 45-60% RH year-round
✓UV lacquer handles UFH cycles without cracking or delamination risk
Thermal resistance 0.15 m2 K/W maximum
Room Suitability
| Room / Application | Suitability | Notes |
| Open-Plan Living & Dining | Excellent | 260mm smoked oak creates a dramatic, warm floor plane across open-plan spaces. Fewer joints at scale reinforces the premium quality of the smoked finish. |
| Living Rooms | Excellent | The depth and warmth of the smoked tone anchors any living room scheme. UV lacquer provides durability for living room traffic with minimal maintenance. |
| Dining Rooms | Excellent | Seen at eye level from a seated position, the brushed-smoked texture and the characteristic blue-grey knot nodes of the CD grade specification are fully visible. |
Master Bedrooms | Excellent | Warm smoked tone creates a rich, intimate bedroom environment. 260mm wide boards give the room a premium, calm quality. |
Hallways & Stairs | Very Good | UV lacquer durability handles hallway traffic well. Smoked dark tone conceals scuffs and wear more effectively than pale floors. |
Kitchens | Good | UV lacquer more water-resistant than oil. Seal board joints at installation. Wipe spills promptly. Dark smoked tone forgiving of minor kitchen marks. |
Heritage & Period Buildings | Excellent | Wide plank smoked oak is an effective specification for period buildings -- 260mm boards reference the wide planks of historic floors; the smoked tone references aged oak timber. |
Hospitality -- Hotel Rooms | Very Good | 260mm smoked oak click-install suits hotel room refurbishment. Warm tone universally appealing; UV lacquer suits housekeeping protocols. |
Bathrooms | Not Recommended | Not suitable for persistent moisture -- specify SPC for wet rooms. |
Care & Maintenance -- UV Lacquer on Brushed-Smoked Surface
| Task | Method |
| Daily | Dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush head -- brushed texture traps fine dust in the grain channels; vacuum along the grain direction |
| Weekly | Damp mop with well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral lacquered floor cleaner -- no standing water |
| Spills | Wipe promptly -- UV lacquer protects the surface but standing liquids can penetrate board joints over time. The dark smoked tone makes spills less visible than on pale floors -- check regularly |
Surface marks | The dark smoked tone and brushed texture conceal minor surface scuffs and marks more effectively than pale smooth floors. UV lacquer does not require periodic re-coating under normal residential use |
Long-term | UV lacquer does not require re-oiling. The smoked colour is permanent. If the floor is eventually refinished, the board can be re-smoked before re-lacquering to preserve the colour at depth |
Never | Steam mop · abrasive cleaners · bleach · solvent-based products · oil or wax products (will cloud or contaminate lacquer) · re-oiling (this is a lacquered floor) |

FAQ
Q1. What is smoked oak wide plank engineered flooring?
Smoked oak wide plank engineered flooring is an engineered hardwood floor with a solid oak wear layer that has been treated by ammonia fuming to produce a deep tobacco-brown colour through the wood fibre, in a wide plank format of 180mm or greater -- in AC-09, 260mm extra-wide plank with a 4mm solid oak wear layer, brushed surface, UV lacquer, and click installation.
AMUER AC-09 is 260mm wide, 2,200mm long, 15/4mm total thickness, CD natural character grade, brushed-and-smoked surface treatment, UV lacquer finish, and click floating installation. It delivers the warmth and depth of smoked oak in the most generous board format available in the AMUER smoked range, with click installation making it suitable for both professional and skilled DIY installation.
Q2. How is the smoked colour in AC-09 produced?
The smoked colour in AC-09 is produced by ammonia fuming -- boards are placed in a sealed chamber with ammonia vapour, which reacts with the natural tannins in the European oak to permanently darken the colour through the wood fibre rather than applying any pigment or stain to the surface.
The fuming process produces a colour that runs through the full depth of the wear layer -- when the floor is eventually sanded for refinishing, the smoked colour will be present at every depth encountered. The combination with wire brushing means the ammonia vapour penetrates the open grain channels more deeply, producing a smoked tone with three-dimensional depth -- tonal variation between the raised late-wood ridges and the deeper early-wood channels.
Q3. What is the difference between AC-09 and AC-03 smoked oak?
AC-09 and AC-03 are both smoked oak engineered floors but differ fundamentally in format and surface complexity: AC-09 is a 260mm extra-wide single-width floor with two surface processes (brushed and smoked) and click installation; AC-03 is a 90/150/190mm multi-width floor with four surface processes (brushed, saw mark, hand scraped, and smoked) and T&G installation.
Choose AC-09 for a premium smoked wide plank floor with click installation, clean single-width format, and a brushed-smoked surface that delivers colour depth without maximum surface complexity. Choose AC-03 for a reclaimed-look floor with multi-width variation, four-process surface complexity, and T&G professional installation. AC-03 is more visually complex; AC-09 is more architecturally clean.
Q4. Why does AC-09 use brushed and smoked together?
AC-09 combines brushing and smoking because wire brushing opens the grain structure of the oak before the ammonia fuming process -- allowing the ammonia vapour to penetrate more deeply and evenly into the exposed grain channels, producing a smoked colour with more three-dimensional depth than smoking a smooth-sanded surface alone.
The brushed surface also creates a tactile texture that remains perceptible under the UV lacquer, giving AC-09 a warm, open-wood character that distinguishes it from a smooth lacquered smoked floor. The interaction of the two processes -- open grain depth from brushing, tonal richness from fuming -- is what creates the characteristic appearance of brushed-and-smoked oak.
Q5. Can AC-09 be used over underfloor heating?
Yes -- AC-09 is compatible with both hydronic and electric underfloor heating, with a maximum recommended surface temperature of 27 degrees C.
At 260mm extra-wide, AC-09 requires careful humidity management -- maintain indoor relative humidity at 45-60% RH year-round to prevent edge movement on the wider boards. Switch off the heating 48 hours before installation and restart gradually after installation, increasing by 1-2 degrees C per day. UV lacquer handles UFH thermal cycling without cracking risk.
Q6. Will the smoked colour of AC-09 change or fade over time?
The smoked colour of AC-09 is very stable under UV lacquer -- it will not fade or change significantly over the lifetime of the floor under normal conditions, because the colour is a permanent chemical change to the wood's tannin structure rather than an applied pigment or surface stain.
UV lacquer seals the brushed-smoked surface and prevents light and air from reaching the wood fibre, which further stabilises the colour. Over decades of use, very slight lightening at high-traffic areas may occur as the lacquer surface wears at those points -- this is a sign that refinishing may be needed, not that the smoked colour is fading. When refinished, the smoked colour at depth is fully restored.
Q7. Can AC-09 be sanded and refinished?
Yes -- AC-09 has a 4mm solid oak wear layer supporting 3-4 full sanding and refinishing cycles over the floor's lifespan.
After sanding, AC-09 can be re-smoked in a fuming chamber and re-finished with UV lacquer to restore the smoked appearance, or refinished with a different finish if a different tone is preferred. Full refinishing requires professional equipment and should be carried out by a specialist. At 4mm wear layer, AC-09 has more refinishing capacity than the 3mm wear layer products.
Q8. What is the minimum order for AC-09?
The standard minimum order for AMUER AC-09 is 200 m2 per SKU from our China factory.
