Storm Grey Oak 220mm Wide Plank Engineered Flooring — AH-10
Storm Grey Oak 220mm Wide Plank Engineered Flooring — AH-10
AH-10 is a 220mm wide plank engineered oak floor in DE high-character grade with two surface treatments — embossment and chemical treatment — finished with wax oil: 15/4mm three-layer construction with a 4mm solid oak wear layer, click floating installation. The chemical treatment produces a cool storm-grey tone that is the most dramatically cool and contemporary colour in the AMUER treated-surface range: a slate-grey depth with subtle blue undertone distinct from the warm honey-gold of AH-07 and the charcoal darkness of AH-02, with the DE grade knots and swirling grain reading through the cool grey ground. The embossment treatment accentuates the natural grain structure with a raised relief texture, adding visual and tactile depth to the grey surface and preventing the chemical-treated colour from reading as flat or painted. The result is a wide-plank floor with a genuinely cool, contemporary character — architectural in tone, rich in natural texture, and warm in material quality through the wax oil finish.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW · Smoked Depth, Embossed Structure — AH-10
AH-10 is a cool, architecturally toned wide-plank engineered oak floor combining chemical treatment and embossment with DE high-character grade and wax oil finish, in a 220mm wide plank click format. The result is a floor that reads as contemporary and sophisticated without sacrificing natural warmth: cool in tone, textured with embossed grain, rich with the drama of DE knots and swirling grain against the grey ground, and nourished with wax oil to produce a surface that is open, natural, and alive.

The storm-grey colour of AH-10 is the most dramatically cool tone in the AMUER chemical treatment range. Where AH-07’s chemical treatment enriches and deepens the natural amber-golden warmth of European oak, AH-10’s chemical treatment moves the colour in the opposite direction: cooling and deepening the natural tannins to produce a slate-grey that reads as architectural and restrained rather than warm and luminous. The grey is cool without being cold, deep without being dark, and complex enough — with the subtle blue undertone and the DE grade variation beneath — to read differently in different lighting conditions: silver-cool in north light, warmer and more ambiguous in south or evening light.

The embossment treatment is critical to AH-10’s success as a grey floor. A chemical treatment alone on a grey surface risks reading as flat, painted, or laminate-like — a grey that obscures rather than enhances the natural wood character. The embossed grain counters this entirely: the raised grain structure is visible both to the eye and to the touch, ensuring that the grey colour reads over and through a textured wood surface rather than on a flat one. In directional or raking light, the embossed grain adds strong visual depth to the grey ground, with the raised grain ridges catching the light and the grain channels holding shadow.

Design Guide
AH-10’s storm-grey tone, micro-bevel definition, DE grade character, and wax oil finish place it firmly in cool, contemporary, and design-led interior contexts:
Cool Contemporary & Minimalist AH-10
Cool Contemporary & Minimalist
AH-10 is the natural floor for cool minimalist interiors with white walls, concrete surfaces, brushed steel or black metal fixtures, and restrained linen or wool upholstery. The storm-grey chemical treatment reads as the cool anchor of a palette where white, grey, and natural textures are layered without warmth.
Industrial-Warm & Loft Style AH-10
Industrial-Warm & Loft Style
AH-10’s grey chemical treatment and DE grade character make it an excellent floor for loft-style and industrial-warm interiors where exposed brick, steel, and concrete are warmed by dark timber and wool. The grey reads as a sophisticated alternative to reclaimed pine or stained oak in these contexts: natural, wide-plank, and textured, but cool rather than warm.
Installation & Room Suitability
Click Installation (Floating)
AH-10 uses Uniclic-compatible click floating installation with a micro-bevel edge that creates a clean, uniform shadow-line joint at every board boundary.
•No adhesive required — click lock floating installation
•Subfloor flatness: 3mm per 2m maximum
•Expansion gap at all walls: minimum 12mm
•48-hour acclimatisation at room temperature before installation
•Stagger end joints: minimum 300mm between adjacent rows
•Install with grain direction along the longest room dimension
Micro-bevel creates a consistent V-groove joint — do not fill or caulk
Underfloor Heating
AH-10 is compatible with both hydronic and electric UFH. Wax oil finish requires careful humidity management year-round.
•Maximum surface temperature: 27°C (hydronic and electric)
•Switch off heating 48 hours before installation
•After installation: increase 1–2°C per day to target temperature
•Maintain indoor humidity 45–60% RH year-round

Notes
Contemporary Living Rooms
Exceptional
AH-10 is an ideal contemporary living room floor. The cool storm-grey tone, micro-bevel joint definition, and DE grade character create a sophisticated, architecturally confident floor that reads as the quiet foundation of a cool, layered interior.
Open Plan Living & Kitchen-Diner
Exceptional
220mm grey boards create a cool, unified ground across open-plan spaces. The micro-bevel shadow lines define each board clearly at scale, adding visual interest without competing with furniture or cabinetry.
Architects & Design-Led Projects
Exceptional
AH-10’s cool grey chemical treatment and DE grade texture make it the strongest AMUER product for architect-specified or design-led residential and light commercial projects requiring a sophisticated, contemporary floor.
Bedrooms
Excellent
Cool grey tone and matte wax oil surface create a calm, sophisticated bedroom. The embossed grain adds texture without visual busyness; DE grade knots provide natural drama at a subtle scale.
Home Offices
Excellent
Cool grey ground creates a focused, restrained working environment. The wax oil surface is compatible with desk chairs with a protective mat.
Hallways
Very Good
Micro-bevel joints read well along a hallway length. Grey tone conceals everyday marks well. Wax oil requires periodic re-oiling in high-traffic hallways.
Kitchen
Good with care
Wax oil less water-resistant than lacquer. Prompt spill removal essential. Grey tone is particularly forgiving of water marks compared to lighter finishes.
Bathrooms
Not Recommended
Not suitable for persistent moisture.
Care & Maintenance — Wax Oil on Embossed DE Grade Grey Surface
Task
Method
Daily
Dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush head along the grain direction. The embossed grain channels can collect fine grit and dust — remove regularly to prevent abrasion of the wax oil surface. The storm-grey tone is moderately forgiving of dust but regular sweeping maintains the floor’s cool appearance.
Weekly
Damp mop with well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral wax oil floor cleaner only — no standard household cleaners, no steam mop, no standing water. Work along the grain direction.
Spills
Wipe immediately with a dry cloth. The storm-grey tone is forgiving of water marks but prompt action prevents tide-mark staining on the wax oil surface.
Micro-bevel joints
The micro-bevel creates a consistent V-groove shadow line — do not fill or caulk. Clean joints with a soft brush or vacuum attachment; do not force water or cleaning solution into the joint.
Periodic re-oiling
Re-oil every 1–3 years depending on traffic. Use a wax oil maintenance product matched to a cool or neutral grey tone (avoid amber or warm-toned maintenance oils which will shift the grey toward brown). Apply thinly, working the oil into the embossed grain channels with a cloth or soft brush. Allow 15–20 minutes penetration, buff off excess.
DE grade features
Factory-filled knots and grain features do not require special maintenance beyond the standard wax oil cleaning routine. Do not attempt to sand or abrade filled knot features between full refinishing cycles.
Never
Steam mop · standing water · caulking micro-bevel joints · standard household cleaners · bleach or acid cleaners (will affect chemical treatment colour) · lacquer or polyurethane products · warm-toned maintenance oils · abrasive pads.

FAQ
Q1. What is storm grey oak engineered flooring?
Storm grey oak engineered flooring is a cool slate-grey engineered hardwood floor produced by applying a chemical treatment to the raw oak surface that deepens and cools the natural tannins to a cool grey, combined with embossment grain texture, and finished with wax oil: the result is a wide-plank floor with a cool, architectural colour, natural wood grain texture, and a warm, open wax oil surface. AMUER AH-10 is 220mm wide, 2,200mm long, 15/4mm total thickness with a 4mm solid European oak wear layer, DE natural character grade, two surface treatments (chemical treatment + embossment), micro-bevel edge, wax oil finish, and click floating installation.
Q2. How is AH-10’s storm-grey colour produced?
AH-10’s storm-grey colour is produced by a chemical treatment applied to the raw oak surface that deepens and cools the natural amber-golden tone of the European oak tannins, producing a cool slate-grey with subtle blue undertone rather than the warm amber or honey-gold of untreated or warm-treated oak. The treatment works with the natural chemistry of the wood — reacting with the tannins and natural compounds in the oak — rather than applying a surface pigment. The result is a grey that varies subtly from board to board with the DE grade’s natural colour variation, and that changes character in different lighting conditions.
Q3. Can AH-10 be used over underfloor heating?
Yes — AH-10 engineered hardwood flooring is compatible with both hydronic and electric underfloor heating systems, with a maximum recommended surface temperature of 27°C. The 3-layer engineered construction resists dimensional movement under heating cycles. Wax oil finish requires careful humidity management — maintain 45–60% RH year-round. Switch off heating 48 hours before installation and restart gradually, increasing by 1–2°C per day.
Q4. Should micro-bevel joints be filled or sealed?
No — the micro-bevel joints on AH-10 should not be filled or caulked; the V-groove shadow line is an intentional design feature that gives the floor its board definition and visual depth. For cleaning, vacuum the joints with a soft brush attachment along the joint direction to remove fine debris. Do not force water or cleaning solution into the joint.
Q5. How do you maintain grey wax oil oak flooring?
Grey wax oil oak flooring requires regular dry sweeping, weekly damp mopping with a pH-neutral wax oil floor cleaner, periodic re-oiling every 1–3 years with a cool-neutral or grey-matched maintenance oil, and prompt spill removal. Use a cool or neutral maintenance wax oil — avoid amber or warm-toned products which will shift the grey toward brown. The embossed grain channels should be vacuumed with a soft brush attachment along the grain direction.
Q6. Can AH-10 be sanded and refinished?
Yes — AH-10 has a 4mm solid oak wear layer supporting 3–4 full sanding and refinishing cycles over the floor’s lifespan. Sanding AH-10 will remove the chemical treatment colour and embossment texture. After sanding, the floor can be re-treated with chemical treatment and re-embossed by a specialist finishing workshop — or finished in any alternative tone with UV lacquer, wax oil, or natural oil. Full refinishing should be carried out by a professional.
Q7. What is the minimum order for AH-10?
The standard minimum order for AMUER AH-10 is 200 m² per SKU from our China factory. Free samples are available — email arboren@arboren.com. Samples are dispatched to EU, Australian, and most international addresses within 4-5 business days. OEM orders based on AH-10 specification available from 200 m² MOQ.
