AB Select American Walnut 90mm Long Plank Engineered Flooring — AW-02
AW-02 is a 90mm long plank engineered American walnut floor in AB select grade with a smooth natural surface finished in UV lacquer: 15/2mm 3-layer construction with a 2mm solid American walnut wear layer, click floating installation. The AB grade selects consistently for the rich, deep heartwood of American walnut — the warm purple-brown chocolate tone with flowing, tight grain movement and minimal sapwood variation — delivering a premium, consistently-toned floor with the natural drama of walnut and the clean, refined appearance of a select grade.
Where AW-01 in ABC grade showcases the full colour range of American walnut — from pale sapwood to deep espresso heartwood — AW-02 in AB grade tightens this range toward the premium heartwood end of the spectrum. Boards are consistently warm chocolate-brown with red and purple undertones, tight and flowing grain movement, and very limited sapwood presence. The result is a floor that reads as more unified and formally consistent than ABC grade, while retaining the warmth, depth, and natural character that define American walnut as a species. The UV lacquer finish protects and seals the select walnut surface with a hard, clear factory coat — durable, low-maintenance, and long-lasting.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW · AW-02 AB SELECT AMERICAN WALNUT
AW-02 is a 90mm AB select grade American walnut engineered floor — a step up in tonal consistency from the ABC natural character grade of AW-01, selecting consistently for the deep, warm chocolate-brown heartwood that makes American walnut the most visually distinctive premium hardwood available in flooring.
The AB grade of AW-02 tightens the heartwood-to-sapwood colour range toward the premium dark heartwood end: boards are consistently warm chocolate-brown with red and purple undertones, flowing tight grain, and very limited sapwood variation. Where the ABC grade of AW-01 showcases the full colour spectrum of the species — from pale honey-tan sapwood to deep espresso heartwood — the AB grade of AW-02 delivers a more uniform, formally consistent floor that reads as a single, premium dark walnut tone across the room while retaining the natural grain movement and warmth that distinguish American walnut from all other hardwood flooring species.
The UV lacquer finish seals and protects the select walnut surface without altering its natural colour. There is no tonal modification — no smoking to deepen, no staining to unify, no oil to warm. AW-02 is American walnut heartwood as it grows, selected for premium consistency and protected under a hard, clear UV lacquer coat.

Care & Maintenance — UV Lacquer on AB Select Walnut
| Task | Method | ||
| Daily | Dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush head along the grain direction. The AB select walnut tone shows fine dust and grit readily — regular daily sweeping maintains the premium appearance and prevents fine grit from scratching the lacquer surface. | ||
| Weekly | Damp mop with well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral hardwood floor cleaner. No steam mop, no excessive water, no standing water. UV lacquer is a sealed surface — more water-resistant than wax oil, but should not be saturated. | ||
| Spills | Wipe immediately with a dry cloth. UV lacquer resists most household liquids effectively at the surface — prompt action prevents penetration at board joints. | ||
Periodic maintenance | UV lacquer does not require periodic re-oiling. Buff with manufacturer-approved hardwood floor polish every 6–12 months to restore surface gloss and protection.
Scratches | Minor surface scratches: manufacturer-matched lacquer repair pen. Deep scratches or worn areas: professional sanding and lacquer recoating.
Never | Steam mop · standing water · oil or wax products on lacquered surface · standard household cleaners · bleach or acid cleaners · silicone-based polishes · abrasive pads · filling or caulking square edge joints.

FAQ
Q1. What is the difference between AB and ABC grade American walnut engineered flooring?
AB grade (AW-02) selects for premium heartwood consistency: boards are predominantly deep warm chocolate-brown walnut heartwood with minimal sapwood variation. The floor reads as a unified, consistently-toned premium dark walnut. ABC grade (AW-01) presents the full character range of the species — from pale honey-tan sapwood to deep espresso heartwood — with significant board-to-board colour variation that emphasises the natural drama and character of American walnut. Specify AW-02 for a more formally consistent, premium walnut floor. Specify AW-01 for maximum natural character and species drama.
Q2. What is 3-layer engineered construction?
3-layer engineered hardwood (also called 3-ply) consists of three layers bonded under heat and pressure: a solid hardwood wear layer (2mm American walnut in AW-02) on top, a softwood or HDF core in the middle, and a softwood or hardwood balancing back layer at the bottom. The cross-ply construction resists the expansion and contraction of solid wood under humidity and temperature change, making AW-02 more dimensionally stable than solid walnut flooring. AW-01 uses a multi-layer (5-ply or more) core which provides additional stability for wider boards; both are equally suitable for the 90mm width of AW-02 and AW-01.
Q3. Can AW-02 be installed over underfloor heating?
Yes — AW-02 3-layer engineered walnut is compatible with both hydronic and electric underfloor heating systems. Maximum recommended surface temperature is 27°C. UV lacquer finish is stable under heating cycles. Maintain indoor humidity at 45–60% RH year-round. Switch off heating 48 hours before installation and restart gradually at 1–2°C per day.
Q4. How does UV lacquer compare to wax oil on walnut flooring?
UV lacquer (AW-02) and wax oil (AW-07) are the two main finish options for walnut engineered flooring. UV lacquer is a hard, factory-applied clear coat that fully seals the wood surface: it is more scratch-resistant, more water-resistant, and requires less maintenance than wax oil — no periodic re-oiling, just regular sweeping and occasional damp mopping. Wax oil penetrates the wood surface rather than sitting on top: it produces a softer, more matte appearance that emphasises the natural warmth of the wood, but requires periodic re-oiling every 12–18 months and is more susceptible to water and staining. Specify UV lacquer (AW-02) for low-maintenance durability. Specify wax oil (AW-07) for a softer, more natural wood appearance and feel.
Q5. How do you clean and maintain AW-02 UV lacquer walnut flooring?
Daily dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush. Weekly damp mop with pH-neutral hardwood floor cleaner and a well-wrung cloth — no steam mop, no standing water. Wipe spills immediately. Buff with manufacturer-approved hardwood floor polish every 6–12 months to restore surface gloss and protection. No periodic re-oiling required. Avoid wax or oil products on the lacquered surface.
Q6. What is the minimum order for AW-02?
Standard MOQ is 200 m² per SKU from our China factory. Free samples available — email arboren@arboren.com. Samples dispatched within 4-5 business days to EU, Australian and most international addresses. OEM orders based on AW-02 specification available from 200 m² MOQ.
