Storm Grey Oak 220mm Wide Plank Engineered Flooring — AH-10
Deep Smoked Brushed Oak 150mm Long Plank Engineered Flooring — DS-01
DS-01 is a 150mm long plank engineered oak floor in DEF maximum character grade with deep smoke treatment, brushed surface texture, and UV lacquer finish: 14/3mm 3-layer construction with a 3mm solid European oak wear layer, click floating installation. The deep smoke treatment transforms the natural pale-cream oak into an intense near-black chocolate-brown grey — a colour depth that no stain or pigment finish replicates. The brushed surface opens the oak grain into a tactile relief texture. The UV lacquer seals both surfaces — the smoked colour and the brushed texture — under a hard, clear protective coat.
DS-01 is built for spaces where dramatic colour and maximum oak character take precedence over natural pale tones. The deep smoked colour occupies the darkest end of the AMUER oak range, the DEF grade delivers the most characterful oak boards in the range — rings, knots, figure, and pronounced grain movement at full scale — and the brushed surface adds a tactile depth that flat-sanded boards cannot achieve. The result is a floor of exceptional visual drama: near-black smoked oak with grain-relief texture and UV lacquer durability.

Colour
DS-01 Deep Smoked Oak — intense near-black chocolate-brown grey; the deep smoke treatment penetrates the full 3mm oak wear layer and transforms the natural oak colour at a cellular level; the smoked colour cannot be sanded away in normal maintenance; the underlying oak grain and ring structure reads clearly through the smoke treatment as a darker version of the wood's natural anatomy; UV lacquer protects and preserves the smoked colour without adding gloss distortion
Surface Treatment
Deep Smoked + Brushed — two sequential surface treatments: (1) Deep Smoking: the oak boards are exposed to ammonia smoke in a controlled chamber; the ammonia reacts with the natural tannins in the oak to produce a dark, permanent colour change that penetrates deep into the wood fibres — deeper than any stain or pigment finish; (2) Brushing: wire or nylon brushes remove the soft early-wood fibres from the surface, leaving the harder late-wood grain lines in raised relief — creating a tactile texture that follows the natural oak grain anatomy
Finish
UV Lacquer — hard, clear factory-applied finish; seals and protects both the smoked colour and brushed texture; scratch and stain resistant; easy daily maintenance; no periodic re-oiling required; preserves the deep smoked colour under a durable clear coat
Grading
DEF — Maximum Natural Character Grade: significant open and filled knots; pronounced annual rings; strong grain movement and figure; maximum heartwood-to-sapwood variation; every board distinctly individual at maximum oak character; DEF grade at 150mm width displays the full drama of oak's natural anatomy at a generous scale

PRODUCT OVERVIEW · DS-01 DEEP SMOKED BRUSHED OAK
DS-01 occupies a distinct position in the AMUER range: it is the only deep-smoked oak product in the collection, and the result of combining three decisions that each push toward maximum drama — deep smoke treatment, DEF maximum character grade, and brushed grain surface — under the practical protection of UV lacquer.
The deep smoke treatment is the defining element of DS-01. Unlike staining or pigmenting, which coat the surface of the wood with colour, smoking is a chemical reaction: ammonia vapour reacts with the natural tannins present in European oak, producing a permanent dark colour change that penetrates deep into the wood fibres. The smoked colour of DS-01 is not a surface coating — it is the oak itself, chemically darkened. The result is an intense near-black chocolate-brown grey with a depth and richness that stained floors cannot replicate: the grain anatomy, annual rings, and knot structure of the oak read clearly through the smoked colour as three-dimensional elements of the darkened wood surface rather than as marks obscured by pigment.
The DEF grade amplifies this drama: the highest character grade in the AMUER range, DEF selects for maximum natural oak character — open and filled knots, pronounced annual ring contrast, strong grain movement, figure, and the full sapwood-to-heartwood spectrum. At 150mm wide, each board displays this character at a generous scale. In the deep smoked colour, the knots read as near-black focal points within the dark chocolate-grey field; the annual rings create bands of tonal variation that run the full board length; the sapwood boards read as cooler grey-brown against the warmer dark heartwood boards.
The brushed surface adds the final tactile dimension: the soft early-wood fibres are removed by wire or nylon brushes, leaving the harder late-wood grain lines in raised relief across the board surface. In combination with the deep smoked colour, the brushed texture creates micro-shadows along every grain line — deepening the apparent colour of the wood and making the grain anatomy visible as a physical as well as visual quality. The UV lacquer seals this combination of smoked colour and brushed texture under a hard, clear factory coat that preserves both indefinitely.
Design Guide
DS-01's near-black smoked colour, brushed grain texture, and DEF oak character place it at the dramatic, dark end of the design spectrum — a floor that defines the room rather than receding into it:
Japandi & Warm Dark Minimalist
DS-01 is the definitive dark-floor choice for Japandi and warm minimalist interiors. The smoked oak colour — dark but warm, not cold — grounds a room of pale walls, natural linen, rattan, and pale oak furniture without adding the coldness of grey or concrete floors. The DEF grain character and brushed texture add the natural material warmth that Japandi interiors require.
Contemporary Drama & Dark-Floor Design
For contemporary interiors built around dark floors — deep charcoal walls, aged brass fixtures, dark steel kitchen cabinetry, and stone surfaces — DS-01 provides the dark oak floor with the natural material credibility and grain depth that stained or pigmented dark floors cannot match. The brushed DEF character prevents the dark floor from reading as flat or industrial.
Warm Scandi & Northern European Modern
In warm Scandi and northern European modern interiors, the dark smoked oak floor provides the dark material anchor that the light-toned palette of pale plaster, wool textiles, and natural timber furniture requires. The smoked colour is warm enough to read as Scandinavian rather than industrial — oak remains oak, just dark.
Installation & Room Suitability
Click Installation (Floating)
DS-01 uses Uniclic-compatible click floating installation. The square edge creates a flush, seamless joint that reads as a clean linear grid across the dark smoked floor.
· Subfloor flatness: 3mm per 2m maximum
· Expansion gap: minimum 10mm at all walls and fixed objects
· Acclimatise 48 hours at room temperature before installation
· Stagger end joints: minimum 300mm between adjacent rows
· Install with grain direction along longest room dimension
· Do not fill or caulk square edge joints
· Note: smoked colour makes dust and light debris more visible — vacuum before, during, and after installation
Underfloor Heating
DS-01 3-layer engineered construction with UV lacquer finish is compatible with both hydronic and electric underfloor heating systems.
· Maximum surface temperature: 27°C
· Switch off heating 48 hours before installation
· Restart: increase 1–2°C per day to target temperature
· Maintain indoor humidity 45–60% RH year-round
· UV lacquer is stable under UFH heating cycles
· Thermal resistance: 0.15 m²K/W maximum

Care & Maintenance — Deep Smoked Brushed Oak UV Lacquer
Task
Method
Daily
Dry sweep or vacuum with soft brush head along the grain direction. The deep smoked dark colour shows dust, pet hair, and light debris very readily — this is the most important daily maintenance step for DS-01. Regular sweeping is essential for the floor's appearance. Always sweep along the grain to avoid pushing debris into the brushed texture relief.
Weekly
Damp mop with well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral hardwood floor cleaner. No steam mop, no excessive water, no standing water. UV lacquer is a sealed surface — the smoked colour is fully protected by the lacquer coat and cannot be damaged by normal damp mopping.
Spills
Wipe immediately with a dry cloth. UV lacquer resists most household liquids effectively. Prompt action prevents penetration at board joints or into the brushed surface texture.
Brushed surface
Vacuum with soft brush attachment along grain direction to remove debris from the brushed texture relief. A soft-bristle brush is preferred for cleaning within the grain lines. Do not use abrasive scrubbers on the brushed surface.
Smoked colour
The smoked colour of DS-01 is a permanent chemical change in the oak — it cannot be removed by cleaning or light sanding. It is protected by the UV lacquer coat and will not fade, wash out, or change colour under normal use and maintenance.
Periodic maintenance
UV lacquer does not require periodic re-oiling. Buff with manufacturer-approved hardwood floor polish every 6–12 months to restore surface gloss and protection.
Scratches
Minor surface scratches: manufacturer-matched dark lacquer repair pen. Deep scratches through the lacquer: professional sanding and lacquer recoating. Note: sanding smoked oak reveals lighter wood below — professional refinishing with a matching smoke-tone lacquer or re-smoking treatment is required for deep damage.
Never
Steam mop · standing water · bleach or acid cleaners · standard household cleaners · abrasive pads · oil or wax products on lacquered surface · silicone-based polishes

FAQ
Q1. What is deep smoked brushed oak engineered flooring?
Deep smoked brushed oak engineered flooring (DS-01) is a 150mm long plank engineered hardwood floor with a solid European oak wear layer, 3-layer cross-ply core, deep smoke-treated surface (ammonia fuming), brushed grain texture, and UV lacquer finish. Deep smoking is a chemical process in which ammonia vapour reacts with the natural tannins in oak to permanently darken the wood colour to a near-black chocolate-brown grey — a colour that cannot be replicated by staining or pigmenting. The brushed surface opens the oak grain into a tactile relief texture. The UV lacquer seals and protects both the smoked colour and brushed texture. DS-01 is 14/3mm total thickness with a 3mm solid oak wear layer, DEF maximum character grade, and Click floating installation.
Q2. How is smoked oak different from stained or pigmented dark oak flooring?
Smoking is a chemical reaction between ammonia vapour and the natural tannins in oak — it permanently changes the colour of the wood at a cellular level. The smoked colour penetrates deep into the wood fibres and cannot be washed off, will not fade, and does not sit on top of the wood the way a stain or pigment does. The grain anatomy, annual ring contrast, and knot structure of the oak remain fully visible through the smoked colour as three-dimensional elements of the darkened wood. Stained or pigmented floors have a colour layer on top of the wood that can be partially sanded away; smoked oak colour remains in the wood below the surface. DS-01 uses deep smoke — a more intense, longer-duration smoking process that produces the darkest possible smoked colour from the tannin reaction.
Q3. Will the smoked colour of DS-01 fade or change over time?
The smoked colour of DS-01 is a permanent chemical change in the oak and will not fade, wash out, or significantly change under normal use and UV lacquer protection. Smoked oak may undergo subtle long-term photosensitive changes — some deeply smoked oak floors develop very slight warm undertones over years of light exposure — but this is a gradual and natural process that typically enhances rather than degrades the smoked colour's depth. The UV lacquer coat provides UV resistance and protects the smoked surface from light-induced colour change more effectively than penetrating oil finishes.
Q4. Can DS-01 be sanded and refinished?
DS-01 has a 3mm solid European oak wear layer, supporting 1–2 light sanding cycles. However, sanding a smoked oak floor requires specialist consideration: the smoked colour is concentrated near the surface, and aggressive sanding can reveal lighter-coloured wood below the full depth of the smoking penetration. If DS-01 is sanded, professional refinishing with a matching dark-tone lacquer, re-smoking treatment, or compatible dark stain is required to restore the smoked appearance. For surface scratches and minor damage, professional spot repair with a matched lacquer pen is the recommended approach. Contact AMUER for refinishing guidance.
Q5. Can DS-01 be used over underfloor heating?
Yes — DS-01 3-layer engineered construction is compatible with both hydronic and electric underfloor heating. Maximum surface temperature 27°C. UV lacquer is stable under heating cycles. Maintain indoor humidity at 45–60% RH year-round. Switch off heating 48 hours before installation; restart gradually at 1–2°C per day.
Q6. How do you maintain deep smoked brushed oak UV lacquer flooring?
DS-01's most important maintenance requirement is regular dry sweeping — the dark smoked colour shows dust, pet hair, and light debris very readily. Daily sweeping with a soft brush head, weekly damp mopping with pH-neutral hardwood floor cleaner, and periodic buffing with manufacturer-approved hardwood floor polish every 6–12 months. No periodic re-oiling required (UV lacquer). No steam mop. Always sweep along the grain direction to avoid pushing debris into the brushed texture relief.
Q7. What is the minimum order for DS-01?
Standard MOQ is 200 m² per SKU from our China factory. Free samples available — email arboren@arboren.com. Samples dispatched within 4-5 business days. OEM orders based on DS-01 specification available from 200 m² MOQ.
