Colour | NC-04 Natural EF — warm honey-amber to rich amber-gold; the authentic unmodified natural colour of European oak at EF grade; EF grade produces the widest colour range available: pale cream sapwood at one extreme, deep warm amber-brown heartwood at the other, with dramatic board-to-board colour variation across the full installed floor; black and dark-grey mineral streaks appear as strong colour accents across the warm honey ground; no stain, bleach, dye, or chemical treatment — 100% natural oak colour; the warm tone deepens slightly under UV lacquer
Surface Treatment | Brushed — wire-brush treatment opens the natural grain structure by removing softer early-wood fibres; leaves harder late-wood grain ridges raised; adds visible grain texture to every board face; on EF grade, the brushed treatment accentuates the dramatic natural features — knot halos, wild grain swirls around knots, mineral streak edges — with a raised-grain texture that adds tactile and visual depth to each feature; in directional light, the brushed grain adds micro-shadow to the complex EF grade topography, further emphasising the natural character features
Finish | UV Lacquer — UV-cured polyurethane lacquer; hard, durable surface film over the brushed EF grade surface; enhances and slightly enriches the natural honey-amber oak colour; satin sheen level; low-maintenance: no periodic re-oiling required; strong resistance to everyday wear, scuffs, and household liquid spills; seals the EF grade’s open features (factory-filled knots, mineral streaks, filled cracks) with a stable, protective film
Grading | EF — Maximum Natural Character Grade: the highest available character specification in the AMUER range; all naturally occurring features of European oak are present and maximised: large open knots (factory-filled) from 20mm to 70mm+; prominent black and dark-grey mineral streaks running across the full board face; filled cracks and checks; bark inclusions; wild swirling grain around knots; interlocked and cross-grain patterns; dramatic colour variation from pale cream sapwood to deep amber heartwood; significant sapwood inclusion; all features structurally stable and factory-filled where required; EF grade is not selected for uniformity — it is selected because every board is a unique expression of the species’ full natural range
Edge Profile | Micro-Bevel — precision machined chamfer on all four board edges; uniform V-groove shadow line between boards; on a wide 220mm board with maximum EF character, the micro-bevel shadow line provides a clean, consistent board boundary that gives the eye a reference point amid the dramatic natural features of each board face
Installation | Click floating (Uniclic-compatible) — no adhesive required; suitable for concrete screed, existing tiles, timber subfloor; expansion gap minimum 12mm at all walls; 48-hour acclimatisation required

PRODUCT OVERVIEW
NC-04 Natural Rustic Oak Extra Wide Plank Engineered Flooring
NC-04 is a premium natural European oak engineered flooring that combines extra-wide 220/240mm planks with EF Grade maximum natural character to create a bold and authentic surface for high-end interiors.
Built with a stable 15/4mm three-layer construction and a 4mm solid oak wear layer, it offers long-term durability, excellent structural stability, and compatibility with underfloor heating systems.
The brushed surface enhances the natural grain texture, while the UV lacquer finish provides strong protection against scratches, stains, and daily wear with minimal maintenance.
Unlike uniform flooring, EF Grade highlights the full natural beauty of oak, including knots, mineral streaks, color variation, and expressive grain movement, ensuring every plank is unique.
The extra-wide format reduces visual joints and enhances spatial openness, making NC-04 ideal for luxury residential projects, villas, boutique hotels, and contemporary architectural spaces where natural character, scale, and material authenticity are essential design elements.
Design Guide
Unlike uniform or refined oak flooring, NC-04 embraces irregularity, warmth, and natural variation. This makes it especially suitable for interiors that prioritize authentic material expression and spatial depth.
Farmhouse, Barn &
Country Natural
NC-04 is at home in farmhouse, barn conversion, and country-natural interiors where raw material quality and honesty are the primary aesthetic values. EF grade oak with its large knots, mineral streaks, and wild grain reads as the authentic floor material of these spaces — the material that was always there before engineered replacements existed. Works with stone walls, lime-washed plaster, rough-sawn timber, natural linen, undyed wool, and earthenware ceramics.
Warm Scandi
& Natural Wabi-Sabi
In warm Scandinavian and wabi-sabi interiors, NC-04’s EF grade celebrates the imperfection and natural authenticity that both aesthetics value at their core. The knots, mineral streaks, and colour variation are not flaws to be minimised but features to be appreciated and celebrated. Works with raw plaster walls, warm white painted surfaces, natural linen and undyed cotton, handmade ceramics, and simple wood furniture.
Bold Maximalist
& Rich Colour
NC-04’s warm honey-amber EF grade is an outstanding floor partner for maximalist interiors with rich, warm wall colours. Against deep terracotta, warm ochre, forest green, or aged brick, the natural oak creates a warm, organic material ground that is complex enough to hold its own against intense colour. The EF grade’s knots and grain add visual energy that matches the richness of a bold interior palette.
Installation & Room Suitability
Click Installation (Floating)
NC-04 uses Uniclic-compatible click floating installation. No adhesive required. Boards lock together and float over the subfloor on an approved acoustic/thermal underlay.
•No adhesive — click lock floating installation
•Subfloor flatness: 3mm per 2m maximum
•Approved underlay: acoustic/thermal, 3mm maximum
•Expansion gap: minimum 12mm at all walls
•Acclimatisation: 48 hours at room temperature before laying
•Install along the longest room dimension
•Stagger end joints: minimum 300mm between adjacent rows
•Micro-bevel joints: do not fill or caulk
Board selection: lay boards from multiple boxes simultaneously to distribute EF grade colour variation naturally across the floor
Underfloor Heating
NC-04 is compatible with both hydronic and electric UFH. The UV lacquer finish is more moisture-resistant than wax oil or natural oil finishes.
•Maximum surface temperature: 27°C
•Switch off UFH 48 hours before installation
•After installation: increase +1–2°C per day to target
•Maintain indoor humidity: 45–60% RH year-round
•UV lacquer more stable than wax oil under UFH cycling
•Thermal resistance: 0.15 m²K/W maximum
Room Suitability
| Room / Application | Suitability | Notes | |
| Farmhouse & Country House Living Rooms | Exceptional | NC-04 is the definitive floor for farmhouse, barn conversion, and country house living rooms. The EF grade knots, mineral streaks, and wild grain read as the authentic material of aged and weathered timber — the quality that reclaimed floors aspire to but cannot guarantee. | |
| Large Living Rooms (open plan) | Exceptional | At 220mm width in EF grade, NC-04 creates a warm, richly characterful ground plane across a large living room or open-plan space. The dramatic colour variation distributes naturally across a large floor area, creating a tonal range that shifts in different lighting conditions throughout the day. | |
Heritage & Period Properties | Exceptional | NC-04’s EF grade character — with its large knots, mineral streaks, and wild grain — is the engineered equivalent of antique or reclaimed oak flooring. For period properties, barn conversions, and heritage restorations where authenticity of natural character is paramount, NC-04 is the correct specification: engineered stability and click installation with the visual quality of old-growth timber.
Rustic & Natural Aesthetic Interiors | Exceptional | NC-04 is the natural specification for interiors where the design intent is raw material quality, authenticity, and connection to natural materials. Stone walls, lime-washed plaster, rough-sawn timber, natural linen and wool — NC-04’s EF grade character is the floor that belongs in these spaces.
Dining Rooms | Excellent | UV lacquer resists dining spills. EF grade warm honey-amber reads beautifully in warm dining light and candlelight. The 220mm wide boards create a sense of generous, unhurried material quality in a dining room.
Bedrooms | Excellent | EF grade natural oak creates an enveloping, warm bedroom. The natural variation means no two mornings look identical as the light changes across the floor. UV lacquer requires no re-oiling maintenance.
Kitchens (open plan, dry zone) | Very Good | UV lacquer resists kitchen spills effectively. EF grade warm tone very forgiving of everyday kitchen marks. The natural character conceals minor wear better than uniform-grade floors. Suitable for dining and living zones; avoid directly in front of sinks.
Home Offices | Very Good | Natural oak character creates an organic, warm working environment. UV lacquer durable for desk chair use with mat protection.
Bathrooms / Wet Areas | Not Recommended | Not suitable for wet environments.
Care & Maintenance — UV Lacquer on EF Grade Brushed Oak
| Task | Method | ||
| Daily | Dry sweep or vacuum with a soft brush head along the grain direction. The brushed grain channels collect fine grit; remove before it abrades the UV lacquer surface. The warm honey-amber tone and the natural variation of EF grade are forgiving of everyday dust and marks. | ||
| Weekly | Damp mop with a well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral UV lacquer floor cleaner only. No steam mop. No standard household cleaners. No standing water. Mop along the board length direction. | ||
Spills | Wipe immediately with a dry cloth. UV lacquer provides strong resistance to household liquid spills. Do not allow liquids to stand in micro-bevel joints.
Micro-bevel | Do not fill or caulk micro-bevel joints. The uniform V-groove shadow line is an intentional design feature. Vacuum along joint direction to clean.
No re-oiling | UV lacquer requires no periodic re-oiling. The natural oak colour and brushed grain texture remain stable without maintenance oil. Never apply wax, oil, or maintenance oil products to NC-04 — adhesion failure with the UV lacquer will result.
Furniture | Felt pads under all furniture legs. Protective mat under desk chairs. The natural colour range of EF grade means that scratches are less visually uniform than on a single-tone floor, but felt protection is still essential.
EF grade features | The factory-filled knots, mineral streaks, and filled cracks in EF grade boards are sealed under the UV lacquer and do not require special maintenance. Do not attempt to sand or reopen factory-filled features between full professional refinishing cycles.
Never | Steam mop · standing water at joints · wax or oil on UV lacquer · standard household cleaners with ammonia or bleach · abrasive pads · filling micro-bevel joints · attempting to open factory-filled knots or cracks.

FAQ
Q1. What is EF grade oak engineered flooring?
EF grade oak engineered flooring is the maximum natural character specification for European oak flooring. EF grade includes the full spectrum of naturally occurring features without restriction: large open and filled knots from 20mm to 70mm+ in diameter; prominent black and dark-grey mineral streaks running across the board face; filled cracks and checks; bark inclusions; wild swirling grain around knots and branch intersections; and the widest possible colour variation from pale cream sapwood to deep amber heartwood. All features are structurally stable and factory-filled where open. EF grade is not selected for uniformity; it is selected for maximum natural character and drama.
Q2. Are the open knots and cracks in NC-04 structurally stable?
Yes — all open features in NC-04 EF grade boards are factory-filled with colour-matched resin before finishing. The filled knots, mineral streaks, and cracks are structurally stable, sealed under the UV lacquer film, and will not develop further in normal residential use. The UV lacquer provides an additional protective seal over all filled features. Do not attempt to open, sand, or re-fill factory-filled features between professional refinishing cycles.
Q3. What is the difference between EF grade and DE grade oak flooring?
Both EF and DE grades include prominent knots and natural character features. EF grade is the higher specification: it includes larger knots (up to 70mm+ vs 30–40mm typical in DE grade), more prominent and darker mineral streaks, more filled cracks, more wild grain movement, more sapwood inclusion, and a wider colour variation range. DE grade produces a high-character floor with natural drama; EF grade produces a floor at the maximum end of European oak’s natural character range. NC-04 (EF) and NC-01 (DE) in the AMUER range represent these two positions.
Q4. How do I distribute EF grade boards when installing NC-04?
For the most natural and balanced result, open boards from multiple cartons simultaneously when installing NC-04, rather than emptying one carton before opening the next. EF grade has significant colour variation — pale sapwood boards, mid-tone honey boards, and rich amber heartwood boards — and distributing these evenly across the floor produces a natural-looking tonal blend similar to the variation in old-growth or reclaimed timber. Avoid concentrating all pale or all dark boards in one area of the floor.
Q5. Can NC-04 be used over underfloor heating?
Yes — NC-04 is compatible with both hydronic and electric UFH, maximum surface temperature 27°C. The UV lacquer finish is more moisture-resistant than wax oil or natural oil. Maintain indoor humidity at 45–60% RH year-round. Click floating installation accommodates thermal expansion without adhesive constraint. Switch off UFH 48 hours before installation and activate gradually afterward.
Q6. Is EF grade suitable for a contemporary interior or only for rustic styles?
EF grade is most naturally suited to farmhouse, country, heritage, and rustic-natural interior aesthetics where the dramatic natural features read as authentic material quality. However, EF grade can be used in contemporary interiors as a bold material counterpoint — a maximally-natural floor in a spare, minimal room creates a powerful tension between the rawness of the material and the restraint of the design. The key is that EF grade’s drama should be the intentional design choice, not something to be minimised or hidden.
Q7. What is the minimum order for NC-04?
The standard minimum order for AMUER NC-04 is 200 m² per SKU from our China factory. Free samples available — email arboren@arboren.com. Dispatched to EU, Australian, and most international addresses within 4-5 business days.
