NC-04 Natural EF — warm honey-amber to rich amber-gold; the authentic unmodified natural colour of European oak at EF grade; EF grade produces the widest colour range available: pale cream sapwood at one extreme, deep warm amber-brown heartwood at the other, with dramatic board-to-board colour variation across the full installed floor; black and dark-grey mineral streaks appear as strong colour accents across the warm honey ground; no stain, bleach, dye, or chemical treatment — 100% natural oak colour; the warm tone deepens slightly under UV lacquer

Surface Treatment

Brushed — wire-brush treatment opens the natural grain structure by removing softer early-wood fibres; leaves harder late-wood grain ridges raised; adds visible grain texture to every board face; on EF grade, the brushed treatment accentuates the dramatic natural features — knot halos, wild grain swirls around knots, mineral streak edges — with a raised-grain texture that adds tactile and visual depth to each feature; in directional light, the brushed grain adds micro-shadow to the complex EF grade topography, further emphasising the natural character features

UV Lacquer — UV-cured polyurethane lacquer; hard, durable surface film over the brushed EF grade surface; enhances and slightly enriches the natural honey-amber oak colour; satin sheen level; low-maintenance: no periodic re-oiling required; strong resistance to everyday wear, scuffs, and household liquid spills; seals the EF grade’s open features (factory-filled knots, mineral streaks, filled cracks) with a stable, protective film

EF — Maximum Natural Character Grade: the highest available character specification in the AMUER range; all naturally occurring features of European oak are present and maximised: large open knots (factory-filled) from 20mm to 70mm+; prominent black and dark-grey mineral streaks running across the full board face; filled cracks and checks; bark inclusions; wild swirling grain around knots; interlocked and cross-grain patterns; dramatic colour variation from pale cream sapwood to deep amber heartwood; significant sapwood inclusion; all features structurally stable and factory-filled where required; EF grade is not selected for uniformity — it is selected because every board is a unique expression of the species’ full natural range

Micro-Bevel — precision machined chamfer on all four board edges; uniform V-groove shadow line between boards; on a wide 220mm board with maximum EF character, the micro-bevel shadow line provides a clean, consistent board boundary that gives the eye a reference point amid the dramatic natural features of each board face

NC-04 is the definitive floor for farmhouse, barn conversion, and country house living rooms. The EF grade knots, mineral streaks, and wild grain read as the authentic material of aged and weathered timber — the quality that reclaimed floors aspire to but cannot guarantee. 

Large Living Rooms (open plan)

At 220mm width in EF grade, NC-04 creates a warm, richly characterful ground plane across a large living room or open-plan space. The dramatic colour variation distributes naturally across a large floor area, creating a tonal range that shifts in different lighting conditions throughout the day.

Heritage & Period Properties

Exceptional

NC-04’s EF grade character — with its large knots, mineral streaks, and wild grain — is the engineered equivalent of antique or reclaimed oak flooring. For period properties, barn conversions, and heritage restorations where authenticity of natural character is paramount, NC-04 is the correct specification: engineered stability and click installation with the visual quality of old-growth timber.

Rustic & Natural Aesthetic Interiors

NC-04 is the natural specification for interiors where the design intent is raw material quality, authenticity, and connection to natural materials. Stone walls, lime-washed plaster, rough-sawn timber, natural linen and wool — NC-04’s EF grade character is the floor that belongs in these spaces.

Dining Rooms

Excellent

UV lacquer resists dining spills. EF grade warm honey-amber reads beautifully in warm dining light and candlelight. The 220mm wide boards create a sense of generous, unhurried material quality in a dining room.

Bedrooms

Excellent

EF grade natural oak creates an enveloping, warm bedroom. The natural variation means no two mornings look identical as the light changes across the floor. UV lacquer requires no re-oiling maintenance.

Kitchens (open plan, dry zone）

Very Good

UV lacquer resists kitchen spills effectively. EF grade warm tone very forgiving of everyday kitchen marks. The natural character conceals minor wear better than uniform-grade floors. Suitable for dining and living zones; avoid directly in front of sinks.

Home Offices

Very Good

Natural oak character creates an organic, warm working environment. UV lacquer durable for desk chair use with mat protection.

Bathrooms / Wet Areas

Not Recommended

Not suitable for wet environments.

Task

Method

Daily 

Dry sweep or vacuum with a soft brush head along the grain direction. The brushed grain channels collect fine grit; remove before it abrades the UV lacquer surface. The warm honey-amber tone and the natural variation of EF grade are forgiving of everyday dust and marks.

Weekly

Damp mop with a well-wrung cloth and pH-neutral UV lacquer floor cleaner only. No steam mop. No standard household cleaners. No standing water. Mop along the board length direction.

Spills

Wipe immediately with a dry cloth. UV lacquer provides strong resistance to household liquid spills. Do not allow liquids to stand in micro-bevel joints.

Micro-bevel

Do not fill or caulk micro-bevel joints. The uniform V-groove shadow line is an intentional design feature. Vacuum along joint direction to clean.

No re-oiling

UV lacquer requires no periodic re-oiling. The natural oak colour and brushed grain texture remain stable without maintenance oil. Never apply wax, oil, or maintenance oil products to NC-04 — adhesion failure with the UV lacquer will result.

Furniture

Felt pads under all furniture legs. Protective mat under desk chairs. The natural colour range of EF grade means that scratches are less visually uniform than on a single-tone floor, but felt protection is still essential.

EF grade features

The factory-filled knots, mineral streaks, and filled cracks in EF grade boards are sealed under the UV lacquer and do not require special maintenance. Do not attempt to sand or reopen factory-filled features between full professional refinishing cycles.
